This is a chow or what my family calls a chow chow. Growing up my family rasied them they are very protective of there family so some say they are mean dogs, but I love chows!

Yeah, a friend had a chow chow. She was an incredibly loyal dog and wasn't mean at all, just a bit taciturn. After a few visits, and spending the time to get "Maggie" to get to know me, she soon recognized me as a distant part of her family. Her owner, Bill was once attacked by a large dobermann who wanted to mate with Maggie, and even though she was in heat, and the dobie was inviting, she picked her owner to protect and tore into the dobermann who quickly made tracks to another neighborhood.
