I am feeling a little obsessive but when I look at brand new girls on predominately MFC I instantly notice the ones that seem utterly unprepared, bored, dark rooms, bad hair, clothes, and are either constantly on their phones while on cam or in some other way otherwise entertained I don't even pop into their rooms- I hover over preview for a bit and wonder if they take it seriously.

on the other side of the coin I've spent a good three weeks reading every iota of relevant info I can find relating to cam girls including room set-up, and twitter (never had a twitter account in my life), and snap accounts (ditto), and raffles, and countdowns, webcams themselves, lighting which think I have mine nailed for what I want finally and feel more confident then onto mfc profiles, and played with angles etc etc

my self confidence isn't high so between schedules and feeling like I need everything just perfect to start - I'm approved on MFC but haven't uploaded an avatar pic because that's my current obsession this week and I can't find good info on an attractive (marketable) avatar.

I guess there was a youtube video on avatars that was linked to this site but the vid is now a dead link.

I guess realistically I know I will just tread water to start but I don't want to flub it up.

can you overthink this?

Yes you probably are overthinking things. My best advice right now is to not spend too much time watching and obsessing over what other cammers do in their camrooms. That goes for the good and the bad. As for the inexperienced models you question, the may not have access to camgirl forums like this one. So many don't even know they exist. They may be new just like you. :) It's great that you're taking this seriously but I can tell you from experience that all the frills in the world won't help if you can't relax and project confidence. If a guy likes a model enough they will sit in her room with a grainy cam and dim lighting if she herself is exciting to them. Try not to psyche yourself out. Just get online.

just remember that you can take everyone's advice and do things the "right" way and still fail. you can also go the route of your description of an under prepared model sitting in a dark room on the phone and do really well. camming is mostly luck and hoping the right people stumble across you.

As a member, there are a few things that are must haves for a new model in my opinion: good lighting, good webcam and good audio. Make sure you don't play your music too loud to distort the mic and talk more, type less. Actually it's a bit of a turn off to see a very professional profile verses a bare bones one for a new model. I would like to imagine a new model is like a new girl to camming. I rather see her progress organically rather than see she has all the tipping options, raffles and clubs figured out. Also I only look at previews and never at avatars and I imagine a lot of other members do too.

And just to counterpoint that there's all kinds of ways to succeed, several of my favorites seldom or never talk but type and their audio is just music streamed directly. These models are doing very well - regular top 100.

It takes all kinds. None of these seem to be hard and fast rules.

Thinking about it some more (overthinking?) what many successful models seem to have in common is enthusiasm. They look like they are having fun. They look like they want to be there. Yes, the tech things matter some, but the person is the real factor.

I think it's a very good thing to be prepared. I see a lot of girls on MFC kind of dive into the waters, and later, wish they had known more before they had taken that leap and arranged things to make the most out of their new-model tag. Being prepared is a really good thing. But yes... You can definitely overthink things. It can be so easy to get lost in making every little detail perfect that you forget to hit Broadcast. An avatar won't make or break you. Have something clearly lit, something engaging - and experiment with it. Try a different avatar every few days and see what works best for you. Those kinds of details might give you confidence - but if you are going to get lost an obsessive project, spending a week overthinking an avatar probably isn't the best. Instead, focus on a video or a photoset that you can sell. If you're going to focus on media content, try to focus on things that you can sell, things that you can use to increase your income.

Don't get so caught up in the details that you're not broadcasting. Sometimes, the longer you wait to start, the harder it is. Those minutes or hours that you are spending trying to research avatars are minutes that you could be spending making money!!! Believe me, I TOTALLY emphasize about being a perfectionist and research and getting lost in the details. There is a lot to learn, and it's pretty fascinating stuff. But because there is so much to get lost in, you've got to choose your battles wisely. Don't overthink every little detail. Overthink the big details. But don't let them keep you from working.

But even then.... Realize that it's all one big experiment. No matter how much you plan, it's not going to go the way you expect. That's not a bad thing, though. Everyone's experiences are different. You can have a million different things planned, and something will still pop up that you didn't plan for. Which is why the best thing you can do is just.... Get started. There are a lot of things you simply can't research for, and can only gain through experience. That's the most valuable teacher there is! No matter how much you research and learn... Mistakes will be made. Bad nights will happen. There will be trolls. But confidence will come as you grow into yourself as a cam model, as you learn and evolve and figure out what works best for you. Experience will be more beneficial to your confidence than any avatar picture!

What do you need to start on your bestest foot? Good webcam. Good lighting. Good profile. Have a few games planned. Have some videos or photosets or content to sell. That's basically it. After that.... Push that Broadcast button, darling! Because while your perfectionist mind is telling you not to start until everything is perfect... The point of being a camgirl is to make money. If you're getting lost in the details, you aren't working. You aren't making money. And it is sooooooo easy to freak yourself out at that point. The longer it takes to hit the Broadcast button - sometimes makes it that much harder & more intimidating!

But the other amazing ladies here are right. You have to be prepared for the fact that camming can be such a mind-fuck. No matter how much research you have done, you can still flub. There is no right formula for success. That's why there is a high turn-over rate in camming. There will always be girls doing better than you and always girls doing worse. It can be easy (and dangerous) to compare your successes to theirs. There will be successful days where you feel on top of the world, and the next day, your self-confidence can shatter because you made 0 tokens and had to handle trolls all night. It's an emotional roller-coaster, and no words can truly prepare you for that. But experience can!

You aren't going to start out perfect - but you'll learn what works best for you. You'll try new things and you'll fail at some of them and succeed at others and you will evolve in ways you never expected. It can be hard and scary and exhausting - but man, it can be such an amazing effing adventure!
