Will the ban of TikTok affect you in any way?
It won't affect me in any way, since I (mostly) dropped social media before TikTok really ascended. The case is very interesting, though. I'll be keen to see whether it will cause migration to other social media, or cause a notable uptick in region switchers and/or VPNs.
Can you VPN on a mobile device? I don't do jackshit with my phone so I'm genuinely ignorant here. I think most people use TikTok on their phones.
Thank god that my tax dollars aren't being wasted and instead being used on this huge security threat known as tiktok. Personally I'm surprised we all survived tiktok for so long......I hate uncle sam.
You can VPN but the thing is that the Google play store can block apps by region and as far as I know you can't just change that on the fly. You would have to do a different Google account or something like that, it's been like 2 years since I encountered a region block.

You can. I have ExpressVPN and I have the app on my phone. It’s really easy to use, literally just download the app, login to your account, set your preferred region and after that it takes one click to connect.
From what I’ve read, TikTok would be removed from the App Store and if there’s a mandatory update, US users wouldn’t be able to update, making the app unusable. Some sites also block vpn traffic.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company that owns TikTok is forced to sell and Elon buys it.
The guy who owns it was absolutely adamant he will not sell and that's why it moved to SCOTUS. I would not be surprised if Elon copied though. Douchebag that he is.
TikTok is one of my guilty pleasures, I do enjoy mindlessly scrolling through clips. I also have a lot of saved recipes and other helpful stuff for issues I've got, so I guess I'll spend some time downloading all that so I can access it again.
When it was newly trending back in 2020 I did get thousands of new followers from TikTok to my content pages, so that was nice, too. That fell off after a bit though, especially after my first ban lol.
I don't know what will replace it for me. I've tried IG Reels but it just doesn't operate the same. The algorithm on TikTok was magic and actually brought me stuff I liked.
I'm sad sad.

This was my thought. I don’t necessarily doubt there would be national security issues with TikTok.
But with this and many other things the incoming clowns keep harping on, it feels like an attempt to tear down successful businesses not run by friends of the orange guy. Or, to make it so hard for them to operate that they either sell to the Musks and Zucks for cheap, or they go out of business, freeing those same dudes to step in and build something similar without competition.
Right. There is a threat there, but who originally sounded the alarm doesn't seem to be any friend of Elon's. Though now that he's the Presidential Best Buddy, that may change. I'm so sick of these people. There's starting to be rumbles about how Elon may have been able to rig the 2024 election. It's pretty hard to believe so many people sat out when so much was on the line. Or not, if you know how much men hate women...
I haven't deep dived into any of it, but the fact that Elon is also in trouble with other countries for election interference really doesn't give much faith to his arguments against him doing so in the US.
But also yes... the hate of women and lesser fortunate people is also likely.

I have never understood the people doing TikTok, all those dumb dances and everything. I am sure there is more than that, but that's what I associate it with and I never use the site/app. I did once for 1 model who was doing some TikTok stuff, but I only watched her on there once. I just couldn't get into it or like the whole thing.
So it's definitely not going to affect me in any way.
And for a side comment: Elon Musk looks exactly like the type of guy who would be the villain in a James Bond movie, he has that exact look. I have never liked the guy personally.

Hasn’t at least one of his children completely disowned him? I know I read an article awhile back about his ex wife calling him out for lying about the details around the death of one of their children.

I had to google what "deadnaming" is, but now it makes sense. I was thinking something very different from the name, but once I read it, it actually makes sense.

A curious coincidence that the talk of banning TT started around the same time that people worldwide started exponentially sharing videos taken in a certain part of the middle east, showing the results of certain military operations on a certain civilian demographic.
