I tried to find out more about this but didn't see any post that specifically answered. It seems like cam sites have been at least 20+ years now. (Saw an article saying that "JenniCam" is considered the first cam model, back in 1996). I was wondering if cam model studios are now less common, since it's easier to have the technology and bandwidth to do it yourself from home. Or is it about the same as it ever was, or even more studios than ever?

I'm asking in part because I don't see how studios would be very necessary anymore, unless someone does not have a place to work and needs to be able to go somewhere private. But I don't want to step on toes with my ignorance, I'm just curious about whether there is a decline in studios, or they are as common as ever. (Also I wondered this because a model I know, in an Eastern European location, says that studios are all over the place in her city). Also, I'm biased because what I heard does not paint the studio in a very good light.

from my point of view, if you count it as a percentage of models working in studios vs not working in studios.. I think it's the same as it was 10 - 15 years ago.. maybe even more now, for pure number of studios, there are more now than there were before..

And it depends on the place people live why a studio can be necessary, it can be they can't afford the camera or the computer right away, some countries it will easily cost you more than you earn for a month or two in a regular job, if not even more, just for a "start setup" - and then of course there's the question about if people have a space to broadcast from, PLUS some places there's just horrible private internet, so their net might cut out a lot at home also..

in my opinion after working with models and knowing lots models .. studios are really necessary in eastern europe as long as girls not intrested in improving themself .. i know girls beeing on cam for 10 years and they still cant say more then hi how are u lets play bb .. so is not only about buying a computer or a webcam ... they need all the suport included someone to type for them and do fix eveything and so on .. they just smile on cam put on a show and the studio is doing the rest .. always been like this and will always be ..

The equipment side is one thing, but studios will be necessary for those who don't have their own private space. They also help facilitate payment as payout options usually suck on most sites for models outside of the U.S.

You can also use remote studios, like I do, for payment options. I recently transferred to what is technically a studio for daily pay. They only take 5%, but they combine all my sites to one payment, which is daily (bar weekends). On top of that I can get letters of earnings verification etc from them, and a host of other useful financial services, that come from them combining payment from 90% of the sites I'm on in one place. I live in a liberal place, so I've had no problems being verified for things, while having to provide paperwork from like 8 different places to show past earnings, and financial stability. However, this just streamlines things, and makes it easier. My landlord doesn't care I'm a sex worker, but some landlords would. And even though he doesn't care, it would have been nice not to have basically been forced to reveal it. However there was no paperwork available from one of the sites (manyvids) that didn't basically have manyvids.com on it. So I was forced to reveal, for financial purposes.

This studio will have more professional and less intrusive paperwork, and it will make taxes and income verification a simpler process.

Most models have already heard of them (if not they are called Boleyn models for anyone interested). But technically I guess I'm a studio model now for that.

There are other remote studio too, where you still work from home, but they supposedly would provide something in return. It's just questionable (to me) what.

From the two girls I know that work remote from their studio, the studio take a smaller percentage than the normal 50% that most do (they take 25 instead), and they have all the wishlists etc setup at their location with a monitors name for example... they also have a help desk, so if any software or hardware problem shows up, they can call and get help with it, AND one of them uses the studios hardware at home..

Ah ok, so they send out equipment and stuff. Neat.

some of them at least do :) I can see it still being profitable with girls not needing the space right, because it's a one time purchase for the studio and then they get income, they don't have someone "using" their electricity and "rent" :))

25%!? for what!? are they still assigned a monitor for assistance with communication and traffic?

well the 25% for the girl that has the studios equipment I can SOMEWHAT understand right.. and she does have a monitor she can communicate with, but not one that sits there all the time watching.. she's quite skilled in English, and the few words she struggle with, she uses google translate or so with :) - I still think it's a high percentage, but I can understand it more than the one that doesn't use their equipment..

for the girl that has all her own equipment, I never understood it.. she JUST went independent however, like 2 days ago :)

I think the set up stuff comes to roughly $1500 (I'm including lights, mic, and some miscellaneous basic clothes and sex toys). So 25% still seems steep. However, if it's a question of cash flow and needing the money right away, then that's what it is. If the model averaged $1000 per week, they'd get $250 per week and be paid off in 6 weeks. Plus I assume if the model left, they'd get all the equipment back right? So 25% for that does seem like a pretty huge cut. But that's life and business these days. I do agree, 25% is huge though.

I don't know what other benefits the model might have, and what most studios charge.
Maybe that's just a going rate.
I'd have no clue on that one.

I've never worked for a regular studio. I just like this daily pay, remote one. It's rad.
Immediate gratification and reward. Work one day; get money the next
(One of the big clip sites still pays out once monthly, which doesn't motivate me as much)

Ive been curious about the top earning girls on streamate.com that are with model owned studios. What's the advantage to them?

For someone not that's not tech savy I can see the support side of things being a big + towards the 25% being worth it for them, problems with obs? call your support at the studio and have them remote in and fix it.

I could also see it being worth it if there's exchanges on equipment in good time like if three's an issue with the computer being able to get another one same or next day for example, when you think of it that way the 25% is more like insurance with additional support... and liquid damage of laptops is a very real risk for a lot of models 😂

sadly there is more and more studios, i hope tendency will decrease because they recruit poor and naive teenagers, some of them even abandon colleges

omg, are you serious? young adults are dropping out of college?! i have like never heard of this before. /s

ya know undergrads have around a 40% dropout rate. please, let's not sensationalize a perfectly normal life experience. college isnt for everyone, and life expenses or life in general keeps some from attending. :h:

when i was typing i meant my personal experience as a creator from russia. you probably not aware of situations happening in 3rd world countries (since ~95% of webcam studios exist in 3rd world countries), so don't be so confident speaking of such things, please

very young people come to study from province to huge cities, of course from poor families(to be clear: 400-500$ is average monthly salary 5-9)

scouts extra aggressively recruit young girls and boys via social media and advertisement in apps, without telling very important details

the same way as college not for everyone, the same is adult industry, it requires many qualities(your stream is your business), but most important, you shall make this important decision on your own

worthy mention, that it is illegal many countries and they easily can end up in jail(!), it is something they were not expecting from teenage life

adult industry is very great and positive, may give you an opportunity in life. You can learn many things, you are self employed, entrepreneur

and i think most studios are parasites, they exploit youthful and naive kids. no one shall be influenced to go to any type of adult businesses, it is decision you make

but if someone really wants, there is adult communities, like this site, you can get all information needed and get help/advices to get started your career on your own

You could say this about laterally any industry tbf. No one is going to advertise a job opportunity saying "come work with us, we'll make sure you are broke forever", instead they actively push the idea of you'll get promotions, people who worked here made x amount in bonuses, dont tell you that the company is going to force unpaid overtime 7 days a week and they are going to work you until you mentally cant go to work anymore and then replace you. It's called marketing, you dont sell things by listing the negatives, same with everything the decision is up to the individual, if they feel they made a bad decision after the fact it was still them that made the decision.

it is very far from saying "any" industry, it is sophism, i don't get your point and arguments but i am fine with your opinion

i am saying that i don't believe it is a good thing that when people are influenced to go to adult industry (escort, porn production or webcam), especially in countries it is not legal, because police often come to physical studios and get all information

but also i am saying that all information is on the internet free, anyone can start their own adult business using sources like this one

we have friendly and supportive community(i am literally helping anyone who asks questions), so i think studios are not just unnecessary anymore but also a bad experience for many people

studios are not just unnecessary anymore but also a bad experience for many people
studios are unnecessary for people that dont need them. People that rely on studios would disagree.

This is basically "having a job is unnecessary because there is plenty of information online on how to make money without one", fact is some people dont do well working for themselves and need the structure that a studio or job provides along with the other benefits that come with it.

Everything you have said (apart from the legality... but thats a non point because just dont do illigal shit, you can make bank trafficking heroin, dosnt mean that you are going to do it) is laterally the same for any company. There are good companies and bad companies just like there are good studios and bad studios. The all advertise the benefits and best case scenario of working with them. My point is, business is business regardless of the industry.

All of these points have nothing to do with the adult industry, it's just the way the world works.

i'm not arguing that there is the existence of predatory studios that groom naive young people. we got them here in the states too my dude. they are typically in arizona or nevada. also, i know not all of these studios are predatory in 3rd world. im sorry if your experience has been negative.

im saying people leaving higher education is such a common life experience, and can we not sensationalize something everyone around the world experiences for many different reasons. people leave college all the time because of their current terrible situations. we can stick to facts of predatory studios without adding dramatics.

but go off sis.

This ^^^

I worked for a university for many years and regularly ran enrollment stats for management. Despite a lot of talk, review, commitment, inducements, etc. the retention rate from Freshman to Sophomore never varied from 78% for over 20 years. Many dropouts never completed one semester. Life happens :)

Ah now I know why you never pushed that narrative on me when others tried.

Sadly studios are becoming more and more common.
Sites give certain of them preferential treatment (Flirt4Free & Live Jasmin in particular) and Columbian studio models are allowed to do whatever they want on Streamate pretty much though SM won't admit it.
They often take up to 50% and lie through their teeth to get models to join.
They are the bane of the adult industry.
ETA I am not referring to those studios that are closer to a payment processor such as Boleyn Models and The Daily Pay Service. These provide an actual service with a reasonable percentage.
