I'm starting this thread partially so I can keep track of what albums I've downloaded but haven't listened to yet (I do pay for my downloads/streaming through napster, in case any governmental folk are reading this :? ) and partly 'cos I'm nosy and wanna see what music you guys are buying/obtaining :-D

Week starting 10/09/12

David Byrne & St Vincent - Love This Giant
Cat Power - Sun
Jens Lekman - I Know What Love Isn't
The Stone Roses - Turns Into Stone (although it's just random remasters of old songs as far as I can tell)
The xx - Coexist
ZZ Top - La Futura

The Ministry of Sound's 80's Anthems fell into my lap this morning! 80's baby here! Going to be having an 80's disco for the rest of the month. You have been warned. :p

Oh yessss, Cat Power is my queen. This album is way different than anything she has ever done but I love it so hard.

Calexico-Algiers
Minus The Bear- Infinity Overhead
Lupe Fiasco- Food and Liquor II, The Great American Rap Album Pt. I (not out until later this month but I'm super excited about it)

I'm gonna check out the Cat Power next, I think. The xx was good, but nowhere near as great as their first album. I dug the Byrne/St Vincent album for the most part too. Annie Clark can do no wrong at the moment and Byrne is pretty much a genius :)

Most recently, we downloaded the new albums by: Dragonforce, Fear Factory, All that Remains, In Flames and Deadstar Assembly (not really a newer album, lol)

I loved the Cat Power album :-D Was that Iggy Pop turning up during the very Bowie-esque "Nothin' But Time"?
The Jens Lekman was good too - lovely lovelorn pop songs centred around some inspired lyrical wordplay.
Listening to the ZZ Top album now and it's... alright; dumb, fun, bluesy rock. I think at this point in time though, all the ZZ Top I really need to hear, has already been compiled on their 'greatest hits' albums like, ten times over.
I cannae be arsed with the Stone Roses album today - great as the songs are, I've heard 'em all a hundred times before. I am eyeing up the new Calexico and Avett Brothers albums though. And I still haven't listened to the new Bloc Party :-D

Just bought their album, heartily recommend it it is immense!

Pre-ordered Devin Townsend's new album "Epicloud" last month and it should be shipping this week. Here's a couple tracks in case no one knows who I'm talking about:

Woot! I'll be getting this too. My only question is which of the four different CD versions listed on Amazon is the right one to get (since they give virtually no information on them). :angry4: Most likely I'll go with the one that appears to be a domestic 2-disc version and hope it includes everything important.

Yeah, the 2 disc special edition is the one to get, the 2nd disc has demo versions of every track. However, you should have pre-ordered directly from CM Distro a couple weeks ago and you could have payed alot less than Amazon's ridiculous prices.

Most of my musical acquisitions in recent years have been little known 60s/early 70s stuff. I rarely find contemporary music interesting enough to buy entire albums.

A surprise finding that I have been enjoying the last few days is:

Re: Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud

Thanks. Actually, it turns out that the Amazon price is about the same. For some reason, they usually have pretty good pre-order prices, even though you can usually find better prices than theirs for older albums.

Oh, and my most recent purchases before this (all several years old, some several decades old):

Anathema - A Fine Day to Exit
Gentle Giant - In a Glass House
The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
Van der Graaf Generator - H to He Who am the Only One
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts

File downloading makes Jesus cry.

Someone get him a tissue, I'm trying to rapidshare some music here. He's getting tears on my keyboard.

Dammit Jesus... if they didn't want t shared they'd make the CDs rip proof. Stop crying.

Oh great now his nose is running. jeeeze.

No I wasn't talking to you Jesus... blow your nose for fucks sake.

Week starting 17/09/12

Band of Horses - Mirage Rock
Dinosaur Jr. - I Bet On Sky
First Aid Kit - The Lion's Roar
How To Dress Well - Total Loss
Michael Jackson - Bad 25th Anniversary (I bought the Wembley Stadium concert DVD too :-D)

I really want the new Grizzly Bear and Kanye West albums/compilations but they're not on Napster and I couldn't afford to buy them today :(

The new How To Dress Well is awesome. Lovely, sparse, fractured, Weeknd-esque R&B. As great as it is, it is kinda cold and depressing though.
Luckily, the new Dinosaur Jr. is like, the perfect tonic for all things cold and depressing :-D These guys were my favourite band growing up, and in a world where Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band never existed, they likely still would be. This album's like a warm hug, a 47-minute spooning session that leaves you all fuzzy and stuff. J Mascis' trademark laconic drawl, the sloppy, choppy guitar, the bouncing basslines... it's just everything that is good and right about American indie music, ya know? :)

I caved in and went and bought that Kanye West produced compilation. It's... only okay. It's not strictly a Kanye West album so probably shouldn't be judged as one. It's essentially a bunch of rappers signed to West's G.O.O.D Music label being given a playground to fart around in, overseen by Kanye, who occassionally plays with them too. From a production standpoint, it's decent but lacks anything approaching the borderline genius of the Twisted Fantasy album. The songs are given a decent backbone by West's beats and there's a few strong singles on there but there's not much to get excited about. West isn't the best rapper in the world but he is better than most of the guys he shares the spotlight with on this album (Jay Z, Ghostface Killah, Common and Ma$e do politely pick up the slack though).
The new Grizzly Bear has gone up on Napster too. Listening to it now it's sounding pretty fucking awesome :-D .
There's a new Redd Kross record out too that I wanna check out and I'm contemplating listening to John Lee Hooker Jr.'s new album too. But then, it's not like it's gonna be even remotely as great as his dad's stuff, so I might not bother and just stick "Boom Boom" on instead

Week starting 24/09/12

Beach Boys - 50 Big Ones: Greatest Hits
DJ Shadow - Reconstructed: The Best Of DJ Shadow
Grateful Dead - Spring 1990: So Glad You Made It
Lana Del Rey - Blue Velvet (Single)
Lupe Fiasco - Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1
R.E.M - Document - 25th Anniversary Edition

Not a whole lot out this week that's actually new (plenty of greatest hits comps, reissues and live albums though!). The new Lupe is either gonna be awesome or completely shit. Hopefully the former :-D

I recently bought the represses of vinyl of Monster Magnet
Dopes to Infinity
Superjudge
Powertrip

Week Starting 01/10/12

Nothing new out this week that I was bothered enough ebout to acquire but I did get ahold of a couple that have been out a little while...

Jessie Ware - Devotion
Wild Nothing - Nocturne

I also picked up a second-hand Travelling Wilburys 2CD/DVD set from work for £1.60 :-D

J.D McPherson : Signs and Signifies.

This man is amazing! If you love his music please purchase the album. Artists in this genre don't earn much.

I dare you to try and sit still.

I echo Jolene on this man's music! He was in my town last week, and is show was AMAZING! In fact, it was so good that I bought the CD and the LP (Yes, the man actually sells real records!) from his merchandise table.

AlunaGeorge - Your Drums, Your Love EP
Bat For Lashes - The Haunted Man
Converge - All We Love We Leave Behind
Haim - Forever EP

Napster doesn't have the new Godspeed album which makes me sad. They still don't have the Seapony album from a few weeks ago either :(
