A guy I know from another forum voluntarily trains service dogs for Wounded Warriors ...too good not to share.
He is now 20 weeks old, as of today....
It all started with a sleepy little puppy..
Being trained as a Mobility Assistance Service Dog for a Wounded Warrior...
His goals for training were as follows;
1.Open and close doors
2.Open and close drawers.
3.Open and close Cabinet /fridge doors.
4.Operate handicap access push buttons/electric doors.
5.Pick up dropped objects and return to hand. as small as a credit card.
6. Pick up dropped leash.Return to hand.
7.Become accustomed to working with a handler using a cane and/or walker.
8.Advanced Obedience and extreme socialization.
9.Locate misplaced cell phone.
10. Operate doors with "french" handles...
At the ripe old age of 20 weeks he can now do everything on the list except for #9 and #10. Locating the phone is an olfaction based training we havent begun yet, and hes not big enough to reach french door handles....yet.
Yep...I'm proud of him.....
Dogs of 10 months usually aren't near this stage yet.
And here he is, on the job, at home...
Opening a door..
A drawer...
Picking up his leash...
And going for the remote!
And for now..it ends with a sleepy young dog, with his first "Dog Tag"..
