I think, for those that were old enough to process what was happening when they witnessed it, today is probably not the best day to have that discussion. Out of respect for the deceased. Regardless of any theories or intent, a lot of innocent people died.

Today, we honor the victims and heroic public servants who paid the ultimate price to save the lives of complete strangers. I, personally, think exploring the conspiracy stuff can wait for any of the other 364 days of the year.

I was just about to say this.

Today people are talking about the conspiracy stuff all over Facebook. Why would it not be okay to talk about it here?

Conspiracy = no.
Badly mishandled information and warning signs beforehand = YES!
Exactly! I think that Bush ignored the warnings signs because he wanted to let it happen, so he could claim that Iraq's government was involved with Al Qaeda. Which is exactly what he did to try to justify us invading Iraq! ( along with the false claim that Iraq still had a weapons of mass destruction program)

It's in bad taste to be talking about it there too.

We can talk about it here, just not today. Facebook is in bad taste to do it too. Today is like another Memorial Day, to remember those who were lost. Conspiracy theories can wait for another day.

I would have to respectfully disagree. Let just say, for the sake of argument (whether you personally believe this or not), that you knew for a fact that 911 was in fact a false flag attack, carried out by top members of our own government... wouldn't you want to bring awareness to the public? And wouldn't 9/11 (as well as the days leading up to 9/11) be one of the best days to spread the word?
People who believe the "official story" always seem to think that those who have opposing views about 911 are somehow trying to be disrespectful to those who died during the attacks. But the truth is that they're motives are to bring justice to who they think are the true perpetrators behind the crime.

Whoa whoa whoa... wait just a minute...
You guys mean to tell me that you think exploring the different theories of who people think where really behind the 911 attacks on 9/11 are inappropriate or disrespectful, but contributing to this thread on 9/11 ok??

FUNNY how political correctness changes here isn't it PB? ;)

In my experience, after a certain amount of time, humor can help people remember and ease the pain of sad events. Pretty sure this is just a fairly normal way of bonding over things we're not ready to stop talking about. I personally prefer 9/11 jokes above Fox News using 9/11 as a tool to tug at people's emotions and support a war where we send people to kill tons of other people. Conversations about these particular conspiracy theories often don't include dialogue about how even if it WAS (and I don't think it was) a conspiracy, a lot of innocent people lost their lives, and a lot of families lost people they loved. I don't think anyone in that four-year-old thread actually thinks that 9/11 in and of itself was a funny thing to happen. However, conspiracy theory conversations about 9/11 do often lose the idea of it being a TRAGIC event and take on an attitude of it being a sinister government plot type deal instead.

And yes, sometimes political correctness changes in communities. If hanging out with my grandma has taught me anything, it's that there were a lot of things that were politically correct when she was young, and when she says those things now, it catches me off guard because they're definitely not politically correct now. Standards in social groups change.

Welcome to PC Town.

Ok I really don't understand the "take a chill pill" rating because I really don't see how anything I said could be construed as sounding upset or riled up? I can understand the  rating. If it's your opinion that what I said was stupid, then so be it. And while I may disagree with what you say, I'll fight to the death your right to say it. But "take a chill pill"??? I'm actually pretty relaxed, but ok. lol

4 years ago the vibe here was different than it is now. ACF has grown, I'm sure many folks who were around since then would agree.

Comparing this thread, started by Guy who we adore for being a bit socially ignorant and naive, and probably not realizing it being in appropriate, to a thread created by Bawksy, who was the biggest ACF troll at the time the other thread was created, is not really a relevant thing. Hopefully pointing out the faux pas to Guy will help him understand and make better social decisions in the future.

Anyway, the point is now moot, as the day of remembrance has passed, and people are carrying on with discussion.

I also want to add: humor IS a way for people to get over things. Making jokes about it may disgust some people, but I almost feel making a thread with conspiracies about it may be more insulting to families who dealt with loss from the event.

Socially Ignorant? I was just trying to bring a up an interesting and thoughtful conversation that was relevant to 9/11. I assumed that people would respond to this thread by saying their opinions of the conspiracy theories.

People might want to consider that there are models/members on here who were deeply, personally effected by the events that happened that day. And perhaps, bringing up conspiracy stories isn't best discussed on a day when people are already going to be emotional. (Especially when some of the conspiracy stories I've heard claim no one actually died that day in the towers/flights.) So, yeah, timing.

And I say this as a person who freaking loves to talk about conspiracy stories.

Which precisely proves my point. It's clear you didn't realize that by posting as such, you could upset a lot of folks.

I did not know that there were people on here that were personally effected by 9\11. Sorry if any were offended by my thread. I was thinking of the theories that it was the government that did what happened on 9/11

I don't buy any of the conspiracy theories personally, I haven't seen any of them that really stand up to proper scrutiny.

Also I would agree with @Poker_Babe, I dont think discussing conspiracy theories is being disrespectful of those who died. Discussing the how, who and why is not denying it happened or that it was any less tragic whatever reason you choose to believe.

If you are someone who finds it upsetting to discuss on the day itself, then dont discuss it and wait for another day, just leave the thread or dont read it once you have seen the topic but its not fair to criticize Guy or anyone else who does want to discuss it. Just because some people may be offended isnt reason enough to stop a discussion.

Of course its totally different if people are having said discussion in an assholey way which I dont think Guy was

Anyway thats just my opinion, feel free to facepalm or turd me.

The word "inappropriate" has always chapped my ass for many reasons.

Mainly, because that word is often used when what people are really doing is trying to censor another person's thoughts or words.

And who decides what's appropriate? I mean, what is appropriate for them may not be appropriate for someone else, and vice versa. The definition of appropriate is kind of like pornography - you know it when you see it. Only the problem is, not everybody sees it the same way.

For example, I'm with @BlairLuxe up there. I'd sure as hell rather that people were making jokes and talking about conspiracy theories than using 9/11 to frighten a bunch of stupid people into giving up their rights or to justify a bullshit war.

Also, when you start telling other people what is appropriate and not appropriate, you are placing yourself in the position of moral arbiter...and that's a pretty presumptuous thing to do.

Ultimately, I think people use "inappropriate" as a euphemism for "I'm uncomfortable and I think you should only be allowed to say/do things that make me comfortable." Which is bullshit.

Something is "inappropriate" when it is damaging in a very real way. Like we were talking about in another thread about rape culture, making and allowing comments that contribute to an environment of sexual violence against women is in-fucking-appropriate. Talking about some abstract political bullshit is not.

People say a lot of things that make me uncomfortable. But I wasn't born with an inalienable right to always be comfortable...and neither was anyone else.

On an unrelated note, and this is probably just my own hang-up, I always get irritated at people who pay lip service to "the innocent who died and all those who sacrificed" blah blah blah when they have never actually put themselves in harm's way and never actually would.

So, maybe bringing it up yesterday was "damaging in a very real way" to some folks.

Just sayin'

I only said anything initially (well, agreed with/quoted the original post pointing out that it may be in bad taste on the specific date) because as soon as I stumbled upon the thread I cringed a little. Not because I was personally offended, or thought it was highly offensive, but because I assumed many people here would be put off by it. My initial reaction was "oh no..."

But it seems that wasn't really the case, so my apologies. Only a few folks may have been upset by it, and may have very well just ignored it. I shouldn't have said anything. I thought maybe it was a good thing to point out to the OP that it may be a bad day for that sort of thing due to his post history and maybe seeming to need some guidance on what's cool and what's not as far as social interactions go. Maybe if it was someone else who started the thread, reactions/replies might have been different.

I could very well have been wrong. But what's said is said, moving on.

You know what, Ginger? I've actually never thought about it like that. And now you've caused me to seriously rethink the way I interact with the world/internet. Thanks for the deep thoughts, man. And yes, I'm being sincere right now.

I can totally see your point in this and agree. Though I'll say it's a bit different situation for me as the admin of the forum, sometimes I need to step in and try and maintain a certain vibe/environment/etc so there may be times that I have to say such things.

Yes, definitely.
