I was just about to say this.I think, for those that were old enough to process what was happening when they witnessed it, today is probably not the best day to have that discussion. Out of respect for the deceased. Regardless of any theories or intent, a lot of innocent people died.
Today, we honor the victims and heroic public servants who paid the ultimate price to save the lives of complete strangers. I, personally, think exploring the conspiracy stuff can wait for any of the other 364 days of the year.
Today people are talking about the conspiracy stuff all over Facebook. Why would it not be okay to talk about it here?I think, for those that were old enough to process what was happening when they witnessed it, today is probably not the best day to have that discussion. Exactly! I think that Bush ignored the warnings signs because he wanted to let it happen, so he could claim that Iraq's government was involved with Al Qaeda. Which is exactly what he did to try to justify us invading Iraq! ( along with the false claim that Iraq still had a weapons of mass destruction program)Conspiracy = no.
Badly mishandled information and warning signs beforehand = YES!
It's in bad taste to be talking about it there too.Today people are talking about the conspiracy stuff all over Facebook. Why would it not be okay to talk about it here?
We can talk about it here, just not today. Facebook is in bad taste to do it too. Today is like another Memorial Day, to remember those who were lost. Conspiracy theories can wait for another day.Today people are talking about the conspiracy stuff all over Facebook. Why would it not be okay to talk about it here?
I would have to respectfully disagree. Let just say, for the sake of argument (whether you personally believe this or not), that you knew for a fact that 911 was in fact a false flag attack, carried out by top members of our own government... wouldn't you want to bring awareness to the public? And wouldn't 9/11 (as well as the days leading up to 9/11) be one of the best days to spread the word?We can talk about it here, just not today. Facebook is in bad taste to do it too. Today is like another Memorial Day, to remember those who were lost. Conspiracy theories can wait for another day.
FUNNY how political correctness changes here isn't it PB?Whoa whoa whoa... wait just a minute...
You guys mean to tell me that you think exploring the different theories of who people think where really behind the 911 attacks on 9/11 are inappropriate or disrespectful, but contributing to this thread on 9/11 ok??

Socially Ignorant? I was just trying to bring a up an interesting and thoughtful conversation that was relevant to 9/11. I assumed that people would respond to this thread by saying their opinions of the conspiracy theories.4 years ago the vibe here was different than it is now. ACF has grown, I'm sure many folks who were around since then would agree.
Comparing this thread, started by Guy who we adore for being a bit socially ignorant and naive, and probably not realizing it being in appropriate, to a thread created by Bawksy, who was the biggest ACF troll at the time the other thread was created, is not really a relevant thing. Hopefully pointing out the faux pas to Guy will help him understand and make better social decisions in the future.
Anyway, the point is now moot, as the day of remembrance has passed, and people are carrying on with discussion.
Which precisely proves my point. It's clear you didn't realize that by posting as such, you could upset a lot of folks.Socially Ignorant? I did not know that there were people on here that were personally effected by 9\11. Sorry if any were offended by my thread. I was thinking of the theories that it was the government that did what happened on 9/11People might want to consider that there are models/members on here who were deeply, personally effected by the events that happened that day. And perhaps, bringing up conspiracy stories isn't best discussed on a day when people are already going to be emotional. (Especially when some of the conspiracy stories I've heard claim no one actually died that day in the towers/flights.) So, yeah, timing.
Something is "inappropriate" when it is damaging in a very real way. Like we were talking about in another thread about rape culture, making and allowing comments that contribute to an environment of sexual violence against women is in-fucking-appropriate. Talking about some abstract political bullshit is not.

And I say this as a person who freaking loves to talk about conspiracy stories.
The word "inappropriate" has always chapped my ass for many reasons.
Mainly, because that word is often used when what people are really doing is trying to censor another person's thoughts or words.
And who decides what's appropriate? I mean, what is appropriate for them may not be appropriate for someone else, and vice versa. The definition of appropriate is kind of like pornography - you know it when you see it. Only the problem is, not everybody sees it the same way.
For example, I'm with @BlairLuxe up there. I'd sure as hell rather that people were making jokes and talking about conspiracy theories than using 9/11 to frighten a bunch of stupid people into giving up their rights or to justify a bullshit war.
Also, when you start telling other people what is appropriate and not appropriate, you are placing yourself in the position of moral arbiter...and that's a pretty presumptuous thing to do.
Ultimately, I think people use "inappropriate" as a euphemism for "I'm uncomfortable and I think you should only be allowed to say/do things that make me comfortable." Which is bullshit.

People say a lot of things that make me uncomfortable. But I wasn't born with an inalienable right to always be comfortable...and neither was anyone else.
I can totally see your point in this and agree. Though I'll say it's a bit different situation for me as the admin of the forum, sometimes I need to step in and try and maintain a certain vibe/environment/etc so there may be times that I have to say such things. Also, when you start telling other people what is appropriate and not appropriate, you are placing yourself in the position of moral arbiter...and that's a pretty presumptuous thing to do.
