I know the moose discussion is old, but I wanted to add my :twocents-02cents:

A long long time ago, in a galaxy far away...

A man was driving down a road through a Canadian forest when he spotted a moose crossing it. He stopped the car, because he knew that if he tried to take on the moose with his little coup the moose would win! The moose casually walked up to his car, and sat on the hood. Suddenly, 20+ female moose started to cross. The bull moose stayed on the hood of the car until the whole herd had safely crossed the street. Then it stood up, shot the driver a look, and wandered off into the forest after the herd.

I heard the story from the person it happened to, so NOT a "friend of a friend" story. He said he was scared out of his mind when the moose started to walk towards him, he thought he was a gonner for sure!
Hey I have this bridge to sell in San Francisco if you're interested...

One of the weirdest things I ever saw was in a zoo in Saigon. Was a tiger enclosure, just with bars no glass, and inside was the tiger chilling and BUNNY RABBITS o_O

The bunnies were just wandering around, eating stuff, not far from the tiger and ignoring it. The tiger was ignoring the bunnies too. Then some absolute douchebag started throwing empty softdrink cans at the tiger trying to make it react...motherfucker I wanted to throw him in there with it.

Still don't get the bunnies though, at first I thought they were food but they had zero fear of this giant predator.

The bunnies may have been something for the tiger to interact with. It is important to enrich the lives of caged animals , or they can start acting very erratic and dangerous to the staff. I think the confinement drives them insane.

Like the fish in a shark tank most of the bunnies will be okay, as long as the tiger is kept well fed.

I have a fascination for gore stuff and such. I love watching stupid tourists get out of their car on safaris and get eaten by lions :-D And clips like that. I just think it's fair. And clips from rodeos when the bulls or horses injures the rider. Specially if they have that strap around their genitals to make them buck more.

I like seeing the animals "pay it back" so to speak.

I know. My sexiness just lowered.

I think the bunnies were probably food for the tigers when they wanted 'em. The states outlawed feeding zoo animals live critters due to animal cruelty laws... but even rabbits aren't that stoopid, lolz.

Nah, watching the running of the bulls each year and the faux horror from the reporters as yet another fucknuckle gets gored to death by a bull never gets old.

Tigers don't normally hunt things that small, so they are probably not intended as food. Even big kitties like having pet bunnies running around the place.

Maybe. :D I give it a 50:50 odds on what the purpose of the bunnies is. My optimistic side thinks the keepers put the bunnies in for a humorous touch, and that the well-fed tigers become used to having them as distant companions. However, in the wild, tigers will eat small game. From Wiki:

"Like many predators, they are opportunistic and will eat much smaller prey, such as monkeys, peafowls, hares, and fish."

I once had an extremely lazy, stupid neighbor who kept a rottweiler chained to a tree in the back yard with a huge container of kibbles within reach...

One day while out in my back yard I looked at their back yard and saw what looked like HUNDREDS of rats running around and literally climbing on the rotty's back...the dog had become acclimated to the nasty varmints, and the rats were there because of the free dog food. And yeah, we called the idiot up and chewed him out. lol

I'd have to see it to believe it, meaning the wabbits were for companion purposes and not food. It's not totally out of the realm of possibilities, but it would be very unnatural. It would be akin to putting a mouse in a feral cat's cage. Heck, even a house cat would probably play with the mouse until it was dead.

Whole Foods

A cat's digestive system is made to process hair, skin and bone along with the "meat." Many zoos feed out small whole foods to their cats. Examples include rabbits, rats, chicks and pigeons. Some places even feed out ducks or geese, depending on availability of prey. The frequency of whole foods in a big cat's diet depends on the nutritionist or zoo vet. Some facilities feed out whole prey as often as it is available, while other zoos prefer the balanced nutrition of processed foods and only feed whole prey a few times a month.

Can't disagree, however, we don't know how the rabbits were introduced. I remember stopping at a "roadside attraction" zoo on the California coast years ago. In the tiger enclosure was an adult St. Bernard. The sign said that the dog had raised the tigers from when they were still cubs. lol Although, I'm not saying that this particular case would work with rabbits, but if the tigers had been raised WITH rabbits, it's completely within the realm of possibility. It's all a matter of conditioning.

I dunno, I originally assumed the bunnies were there as food - but I couldn't understand why they weren't afraid. Even bunnies that have never seen a tiger before will get an instinct to flee if they see or smell one. Also from memory I think the bars were like maybe 4 or 5 inches gap between each one so the bunnies could have left.

Did a little looking and sounds like it is now called the Ho Chi Minh Zoo. The reviews were mostly bad, poor conditions, the elephants were totally cramped in their area and people throwing garbage at the animals... One guy said he's never seen live rabbits in a snake pit before, so live bunnies are used for snake food. Couldn't find anything about the tigers food menu. I'd still have to see it to believe it though. :)

My zoo trip was fun and I was even lucky enough to witness some zootards in action! :D Part of this zoo's appeal is that they allow certain animals to roam free because the grounds were originally a house and farm from the 1800s. Some of the free roaming animals were families of geese and ducks. These seemed to attract lots of attention, particularly from kids. These geese and ducks were smart though, every time a kiddo would attempt to pet** their babies they'd squawk, peck and chase the offender until the kiddos ended up running back crying to their parents with minor injuries. Go ducks!

**These kids weren't actually trying to pet the ducklings. They'd smack, grab, kick or otherwise harass the poor animals. Nobody said anything and numerous families with children allowed this. It was a shame the staff didn't say anything about it but the animals seemed pretty well cared for otherwise. I did take pictures of them but I stayed a respectable distance away and then dropped duck feed as a thank you for letting me photograph them. :)

Dos anyone feel like there were sound effects added to the first video, or were my ears playing tricks? There were cartoony punching sounds coming from that bear I think... :?
Yeah, I definitely thought the sound track was added later.

Yeah the city is called Ho Chi Minh City, but it's easier to just call it Saigon, which was it's name before the communists took over lol

Not to forget the bull fighting. I want to go :angry4: every time I see something from them. Or, I mean... I go  when the bull gets its revenge.

Yeah...I wonder if it's considered poor form to cheer for the bull

You might want to do your cheering from your house.

Poor bull in the second video, going around for the rest of the day with his horn smelling like ass.

That third video was completely unfair to the bull, he would have killed about 4 fucknuckles if they hadn't blunted his horns. We need a version when they have 2 foot blades stuck to their horns like they do in cockfighting.

I still call BS on the 20+ but I may have been mistaken in my PM reply:

I think your friend may have been telling you a tall tale or was mistaking elk for moose. Moose don't ever herd together. There may be some that feed in a common area when certain food is in season, but they will disperse separately afterwards. The only other time they may be seen together is during the mating season where maybe six or so will be together in the same general area of an acre. Other than that, the most you will ever see together is a sow with her two calfs. I can guarantee you there has never been 20+ moose traveling together though, at least not in Canada or Alaska.

Moose A.K.A. Eurasian Elk are the largest member of the deer family and females have been known to herd together in certain circumstances and apparently do in the Urals.

Go ask Alice ;)

Up until about 5 years ago, I thought reindeer were fictitous animals :?

Ever heard of caribou?

Reindeer & caribou are one in the same.

I never knew they were the same, they look so different. I enjoy learning new things, thank you.

Reindeer are slightly smaller and were domesticated in northern Eurasia about 2000 years ago.

Female bou also have antlers, just FYI. I followed a herd in AK. over some of the most brutal conditions imaginable and it was one of the most amazing things I ever witnessed.

Caribou 2: "Yeah, don't look back just keep moving! We'll lose him on this glacier for sure."

They quickly came to learn I wasn't a threat, which didn't take long given the conditions they were so at home at. They played, grazed and sparred... but make no mistake there were several that never took their peepers off me.
