actual CDs? if memory serves the first cd i ever bought was metallica's and justice for all. it might have been master of puppets, i know i got them one after the other, just cant be certain which was actually first.

but im an old fart, so it wasnt my first actual "album" which is what cds used to be called lol.

before that were cassette tapes. my first tow (bought at the same time) was alabama's mountain music and joan jett's glorious results of a misspent youth.

but even before that my very first album of any kind (which was an actual LP vinyl album) was the fat boy's first release.

The first CD I ever bought was in high school, and it was recorded by one of my teachers and his band.
First actual album I bought would have been on cassette, but I don't know what it would have been. Also had some Star Wars & Disney stuff on records, but I didn't actually buy them myself.

My mom bought me Dinosaur Jr "Without a Sound" and The Offspring "Smash" when I was 8. I remember when I got them I thought they were going to be lame, but I will never forget my mom's face after hearing Bad Habit for the first time.

See, now that's a first album you can be proud of :handgestures-salute:

The first CD I got was Red Hot Chili Pepper's Californication, and I remember that my brother and I had finally convinced my mom to get us a portable CD player and a car kit so that we could listen to our CDs on the way home.
I had a ton of cassettes before that but I don't remember the first one I got.

The first cassette tape I owned myself was Escape Club because I was super into this song.

Unless we're counting things we've stolen. I pilfered my Dad's GnR Appetite for Destruction long before talking anyone into buying me my own music.

Dire Straits: Brothers in Arms

This was the first CD I ever bought. I bought in 1985.

I still have that CD today and it still plays just like it did when I bought it. It doesn't have a single scratch on it either.

You can have nice shit if you take care of things!

I know it was Queen, I think it might have been Night at the Opera, or Day at Races. I am pretty sure that was actually a vinyl record. Although once I got a car I started buying those awesome 8-track tapes:

My first CD was called something like "Laser Hits" and came with my first CD player from Radio Shack. This was a fairly common thing with the first units released, since CDs weren't widely available yet. In fact, it would be another month before they started to appear in stores. I have no idea what was on it any more... it probably sucked.

The first disc I actually purchased was "The Best of Eric Clapton", followed by "Led Zeppelin IV" and "Tubular Bells".

BTW, the CD player still works. They don't make 'em like they used to.

My first cassette was a double sided single of the Beach Boys' song Wipe Out. It seemed cooler when I was a kid for some reason.

First cd I ever bought myself? Hanson. First cassette that was bought for me? The Chipmunks. I still rock out to both of them. I have no shame.

I'm older too and most of my friends had tapes at the time and I was convinced to do the 4 CDs for a penny then cancel afterwards which I forgot to do- I was 17-18 and try were nineinchnails - not sure the name know god is dead and noone cares was on it - panthera - wutangclan and beastie boys and I think nirvana heart shaped box too

I'm guessing we're talking things we chose rather than things bought for us before we had any say in them? If not, my first album would have been a Raffi cassette.

As far as things I wanted, I had... quite a few soundtracks to movies I liked as a child on cassette. I used to listen to them on my Kool-Aid personal cassette player that we acquired with Kool-Aid Points (I think I still have it). The one I remember best has to be the soundtrack to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. That's right. Ninja Rap.

I believe my first compact disc on the other hand was...

I had that album. It really wasn't bad.

I've been so surrounded by music my entire life, I couldn't say what the first legitimate music purchase I made was. Probably something to do with Def Leppard. I loved them when I was a kid. The first actual CD I remember buying was a "alternative" compilation that had stuff like Echo and the Bunnymen, Jesus and Mary Chain, and XTC and stuff like that on it. It wasn't bad. The last song on the list was Laurie Anderson's brilliant proto-electronic O Superman, which I appreciate more now than ever before. I've been pretty music snobby for a long time...

Oh, this is terrible.

The first CD's I owned I got as Christmas gifts (with my first CD player) in the 8th grade (so, I was 13, don't judge!)

*Brandy - Never Say Never
*Backstreet Boys - Backstreet's Back

The first cassette I owned was something I am ashamed of now. Billy Ray Cyrus - Some Gave All. (Feel free to judge me for this. He was also the first concert I attended, on my 8th birthday.)

The first CD's that I paid for were #1-6 of the NOW! That's What I Call Music! series. And Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP.

cd? when I was 11 I got a disney cd.

tape? uh... I don't remember which was first, but I'm thinking it was the disney's favorite children's songs... or it could've been that dinosaur adventure tape...

First one I chose for myself? Singers and Songwriters, because it had American Pie and Cat's in the Cradle on it.

Oh, that's a good CD! :) I love that song "Angel in Disguise." Another thing I loved about that CD was the awesome job they did making each song smoothly transition to the next. The way they did it, there were hardly any pauses at all between songs.

The first cassettes I ever had were I believe hand me downs from my brother and it was either Vanilla Ice or MC Hammer...I dont remember which but I remember having both of them and listening to them ALL of the time. I wanted to be the cool little sister and fit in with my brother since he is nearly 8 years older than me.

The first CD I ever bought myself was Alanis Morissete around the age of 12.

First CD I owned was when my parents bought me Pearl Jam's Vitalogy and Aerosmith's Get a Grip for Christmas when they bought me a stereo.

First CD I bought myself was Beastie Boy's Ill Communication and Weezer's Blue Album. I was the coolest kid in 6th grade.
