You know that thing, when/You know that thing, that happens/You know that thing, that makes you...
OK, I thought it might be cool to have a place to post those things that are common subtext that run through our lives. Those things that make us feel a certain way, or maybe react a certain way, or are subtle shades that we see for the first time, even though they have been there the hundreds of times before. They don't have to be things you are sure others will relate to. In fact, I am most curious about those things that I think others might relate to, but don't really know if others relate to/feel/see/connect with.
I will start, and maybe the example will be clearer than my description.
You know that thing, that happens when you are learning to do something that requires some physical manipulation, and you learn the steps, or what you are supposed to do, but it is not right. And it keeps being not right, even though you are doing, or trying to do exactly what you've been instructed to do, and then you get it! It can still be very bad, but you felt how it was supposed to be. Two examples I can think of are, learning to play an instrument, and you are so frustrated, cuz you'll never be able to do it, and then you have a glimpse b/c making the transition from one cord to the next felt right. (It was the wrong cord, but you felt it, and did not think it, and you know you can do it now.) Also, learning to drive a manual trans car for the first time can be very aggravating, with all the jumping, and jerking, and then it stalls with a huff, again, and again, and again. Then you get it right, or close, you didn't bump to a stop. You get it. And you get again, and it feels right, but from the smell, you know it still needs some work, but you get it!!!
You know that thing babies do after they learn to walk a little bit, where they try to do it faster, and they lean forward and race off toward the coffee table, and then just about the time you are sure they are about to do a face plant, they catch up to their forward fall, and run past it, then come to a full stop, step back with one foot and plop on their ass all wide eyed?
Ok, one more. You know when you are on a diet, and you know you are maxed and hope it is a break even day, but you just have to have one more spoon of Mint Moose Tracks before bed. You have your spoonful, and start to put it back in the freezer, but you make a deal for another bite. One more bite , and I'll get up early and go for a jog, or bike to work. You know that thing of having made a deal with yourself, and OK since I'm going to the gym on my lunch hour tomorrow, one more small bite is totally justifiable?
I have these all the time, and sometimes I know it's a common thing - sometimes I don't know. And sometimes I'm pretty sure it's some unique crazy, but figure what the hell. You know that thing of every time you hear the word bamboo, you picture a cartoon ghost jumping out at you, and yelling BAM! BOO!
I don't know, might be fun if we can get a few post to get it going.
