I usually let guests and basics talk, because if I didn't, no one else would talk to me, haha. But even with them both unmuted sometimes I've been sat there bored out my crack because no ones talking!
Most the guests and basics are okay anyway, it's just a few that are idiots. Unless I get different guests and basics to the meanies everyone else gets! I've actually found the premiums are usually nastier to me than the guests and basics, haha.
Yeah you get different ones. Not sure why, you just do lol.

I must be special! :D

Someone who was a guest just went premium just to tip me awwwh haha, so it is worth having them unmuted if like me no one else talks to you. Plus some of them have me giggling loads haha!

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

A beautiful top row model (8,000+ cam score) was actually letting guests and basics talk just now, and they were still treating her, uh, the way guests and basics tend to do. :woops: I'm not surprised though...not surprised at all.

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

It depends on how I am feeling for the day, and how the basics/guests are acting, whether I mute them or not.

I tend to go to a three-strikes rule for them - three out-of-line, begging, whining, or rude comments and I mute. I don't like to mute people, because I like talking to people and my room is *tumbleweed* *crickets* most of the time anyway (even with guests and basics allowed I rarely have more than four or five people in my room) but I don't like to waste time getting bitched at, whined at, begged or berated by people.

Three strikes applies to premiums too — except that if they get beggy, whiney, demanding, rude or mean, I log out.

Does that make me a bitch? Maybe. But I lose steam on cam really fast when people are wearing me down emotionally/mentally, and that just doesn't make for a good show for ANYBODY.

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

Being a relatively low-profile/low camscore model on here, with less people in my room on average, I tend to use guests and basics to my own advantage. Yes, I exploit the hell out of them. I convert probably one basic per week, to a premium account. I sure wish that was worth something to MFC. But it's worth something to me - they usually come back and spend their entire first purchase on me.

I try and use some sort of strategy when deciding when to mute and unmute. I let them speak when my room is dead... between groups and privates my room is not terribly active, as I don't do public shows. But the basics and guests, if left to talk in a monitored way, can be quite useful. They can liven up a room, they can liven me up too, lol. I've seen fights break out between basics... because they know that too many ridiculous comments cause the hammer to come down. And I have a couple of guests who talk to me about hockey which is ALWAYS allowed... that's just me being selfish, nothing to do with customer service, marketing or charity to wankers.

Like I said, my room is different from most of the other models' here. If I were in their shoes, I doubt I'd give them the time of day.

Honestly it doesn't surprise me, all your posts are really intelligent and funny, I can imagine you convert a lot :)

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

I'm a basic and I don't really mind if a model mutes basics. I don't find the conversation in most rooms to be very stimulating, not that I blame the models for that since this is their job and they have to get countdowns done. There are a few models, LilyJean for example, that will just chat about anything, movies, comics, science or whatever, and not care if they haven't been tipped in 30 minutes. I've noticed that models like these are more likely to let basics talk and the basics are much more likely to be civil. It makes sense when you think about it. If the only topic of conversation is the model's body then basics aren't going to have anything to contribute other than "show me this body part bb." Letting basics talk is a lose/lose proposition, they either say crude things about your body, or you change the subject off of your body in which case you get fewer tips because everyone is more interested in the conversation than in getting to the show.

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

I always have guests muted through my chat so even if a model doesn't have them muted I won't see it. I usually don't have the basics muted but that is because models usually have them muted as well.

I'll take the side of a previous comment in here....if I enter a room and see a bunch of guests/basics talking I will leave right away and not even bother to hang around.

Come on, Karl. You made millions upon million of dollars playing power forward for the Utah Jazz and losing NBA titles to the Chicago Bulls, and yet you can't afford to go premium? WTF!

I saw the name 'karlmalone' and immediately thought of Ted Danson's character 'Sam Malone' from the show Cheers. I used to have a big crush on Ted Danson.

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

As it's already been stated, I agree with you ladies. I didn't entirely realize I'd be bombarded by a dozen guys harassing me, and of course, the guests weren't any better. On my first night, a guest said "mm love me a fatty." Whether I'm defined as overweight or not, the term fatty is hardly considered a compliment, to me anyway. The second night, I had a guest who continuously felt the need to say how ugly I apparently am :p I may have some self-image issues, but I am damn sexy and so are the other girls who work as camgirls. Little jerks like that shouldn't have to be tolerated, and the basics just try to abuse the newbs. One of them posted a Tip gif, and tried to make me think he was tipping me, which I knew wasn't true because I had already been tipped before and it hadn't shown up on the sidebar. I learned my lesson, I know I'm going to be silencing guests and basics the next shift I do.

What if the model only has like one premium in her room who is barely talking. I unmute basics when my room is sad and lonely :( For the most part they can be very nice but I mute them if a couple get out of line, if I have alot of people in my room, or when I'm doing a show.

If I have enough chatty premiums I have no use for basics, but when things are quiet they sometimes keep me entertained.

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

I can't figure out how to see how long someone's been a basic, unless I sign in with a member's account. Is there a way for the models to also have that information? I wonder why it's even interesting to another member. What am I missing?

Re: Why do models feel the need to keep basics and guests mu

When I first created my mfc account in december of '09, it was during my 18 month long work drought. That summer when I finally got a job I spent the $20 to become a premium member like how everyone else does. It seemed like almost night and day for me. I could actually talk to most of the models for once! (even one or two more than I should have while they were camming *waves @ amber* ) . When I was a basic it did annoy me when a model would mute us for no real reason, I would actually tell other basics to stop begging so they wouldn't mute us, but you know how that usually goes. When a model mutes them I do tell them I'm sorry to see the good ones silenced, simply because I was one for so long and know how it's like on that. But, camming is a business, and a model can't be in the right mood when tons of little blue voices are begging and demanding her to do things for free. So, really I see it from both ends of the spectrum.

I've only seen in while on my prem account.

Most basics will have their join date listed on their profile. Just click on their name to see it.

On the actual profile? Or the little box that pops up (their menu, so to speak) when you click their name in chat? Because I've never seen a join date on an actual profile, and as a model (on the software or broadcaster) we don't get the same menu when we click a person.

I see their sign-up date in the little box that pops up when you click on their name while in the model's room, not their profile.

^^ Yup, that's what I thought. No way to do that on the model side.

The latter. I see then why you would not see the join date.

On a side note, Chantell has a great rack. :)

I just wanted to say something here.
First off, Lily is amazing and I love her.
Second, Just because she doesn't whine, cry or bitch doesn't mean she doesn't care. If anyone deserves tips for "just being awesome" it's her.

That she does, and a petulant temper - she goes in the 'best watched from lounge' category.

This. So this. I sit and I talk about a bajillion different things when I'm on cam and a lot of times I'll be online for an hour talking and flirting and not get a single tip. Just because I'm not going "omg, guys, tip me nao!" Doesn't mean it doesn't totally freak me out. In the back of my head I'm totally thinking about my camscore and how hard it's going to be to get regulars when it keeps going down. Just because a model isn't willing to resort to tears or begging doesn't mean they don't need the tips.

And now, to answer the OP...I usually mute guests the moment I enter my room but I leave basics unmuted. There are some basics that behave and can even contribute to the conversation. And then the douches come rolling in. Once that happens I apologize to the guys that have been good and then mute basics. It's for my sanity and for the sake of the conversation I'm having. When I'm talking about my favorite episodes of SG-1 and we're having fun just bullshitting no one wants to see some basic spam "feet bb" three dozen times.
