I've never played a lottery of any sort. A friend of mine plays the lottery very often (on a weekly or daily basis) and while she does win (she got $1,000 last week), I've always thought playing the lottery was a little silly.

Who here plays the lottery? Also why?

I play the lottery, because I can afford to lose and have no reason not to. I do not think I will win, but I can afford to spend six dollars a week on it just in case I get lucky.

Let me amend my original post to say, I think it is a bit silly when people play as a way to make money, which is what my friend does.

I sometimes put a pound on. I'm never gonna look back on that pound and wish I'd spent it more wisely and wouldn't it be great if I actually won a life-changing amount of money? (Almost certainly not gonna happen, but then it has to happen to someone a few times a week).

BJ plays about $10 worth maybe once a month, but he's never lost surprisingly. It's almost always guaranteed the lucky mother fucker will win at least $20 on a $4 card every single time. It pisses me off that he's never lost so whenever he wins I use the money to put into my savings or buy nail polish. :shifty: What's his is mine, right?

This is the same jerk who will fall face first on the sidewalk and land on a $10. :-x He has the exact opposite luck I do. When I play the lottery (maybe once a year) I lose and when I fall on the sidewalk I usually land in shit.

I play it from time to time when I'm in line at the gas station and reading all the shiny posters and get a "tingling" but not enough to actually KNOW how to even purchase lottery tickets correctly haha typical conversation goes like this:

Me: I'd like a 649 ticket please
Attendant: which one?
Me: the winning one please!
Attendant: (frustrated glower)
Me: (awkward silence)

Never have. My aunt played the lottery like a maniac, and wasted money like crazy (my uncle had to work two jobs, plus she worked one herself, and they were still in severe debt at the age of 40+). To me, the chances are so incredibly low of hitting it big it just seems pointless.

Same reason I hate "window shopping" with my sister/family or ladyfriends, where they literally spend 6+ hours looking at clothes/items/etc while completely broke or when they know they're saving up for something important. If you don't have the money to spend, why tease/torment yourself with things you can't have? Go make some money with that time you're spending and BUY what you want, don't just drool over it all day and bum yourself out (and call it "Fun")! UGH

I've received Powerball Tickets as stocking stuffers a few times but otherwise have never played the lottery. It's mildly exciting to hope for your numbers to come up but I'd rather spend my money other places personally.

I play a lot more than I should. I don't expect to win, but if I ever do it will be more than worth everything I've put into it.

If you're playing a type where you pick 3 numbers, what they mean is do you want it to be you only win if they're in the order you picked, or do you want it to be the one where as long as all three of the numbers you picked are there.

In the US, it's usually called "Pick 3". "straight" means as-said, while "box" means any order. 50/50 means 50 cents on box, 50 cents on straight. Box gives you higher odds of actually winning, but a lower payout. Straight gives you lower odds of actually winning, but a higher payout.

haha, yeah, I play every month with a 'street' in our national lottery, about 1500 tokens, because of the 'street' the payout is at least 50%.

I love to daydream what I would do if I hit the jackpot, hehe when the drawing is done then I tear it out of the newspaper and put it together with the lottery tickets on the mantelpiece, it can take weeks before comparing those 2, so I can go on with daydreaming ...

I buy $4 worth of scratch offs every other week. My friend and I alternate weeks, so she buys $4 worth, too. We scratch them off together before our girls night out and if we win, that's the money we spend toward drinks/food. If we lose, no big deal. I've bought maybe 5 Powerball tickets over the past 9 years though. At least I feel like I have a decent shot of winning if I play scratch games.

I will usually play when the jackpot in abnormally high. Often times I end up in pools at work for these as well. My coworker plays the pick 3 religiously and he seems to come out ahead at the end of every month. I don't have enough faith in the system to try this though.

I used to work at a gas station and our regular customers would buy me tickets quite often (because we were very understaffed and they usually had difficult requests.) I never won, though. I buy scratch offs some time but I don't have the patience for numbers.

I play the lottery every week...the odds of course are astronomical.
You got more chance of being hit by a meteor with Santa riding on it

But ...YOU never know! You could be that winner!
Thats the fun part :)

I always like to think what I would do with the funds. The lifestyle I would lead, the family members and friends I would help. All those good things, it just makes it fun.

But here's the thing I spend 25 bucks on it per week and that's all. Bet with your head, not over it.

I play for fun and well you never know if you'll get lucky.

I won $50 on a $1 ticket the other day and I was happy! lol
