I want to make a WoW account. I used to play EQ2 but never played WoW. :) Everyone is always telling me I should give it a shot so I finally am. What server should I be on? I don't like PvP... The game is downloading right now, but just the free trial. Hopefully I can get the full version soon. :p

So, what server do you guys play on?

I am sorry if there's already a thread for this. :( I searched, but didn't see any.

When I played I was on Silvermoon..decent population, not a pvp server, pretty decent care bear server, had loads of friends, not bad guilds, its one of the oldest.

I was on Illidan for several years. It's one of the largest servers and always neck and neck for most progressed, it's always packed, it's pvp, and some people are douches.

On the other hand there's something happening 24/7 on Illidan, the best guilds on the server are also some of the best in the world, there's a balance I think - safety and boredom or excitement in a very competitive, cuthroat atmosphere. If you're an experienced player, number 2 is probably more rewarding.

Hehe, so definitely I'll start on a non-PVP server. :p I don't like to stress about jerks when I'm just getting the hang of the game...

One thing I will say (at the risk of being yelled at hehe) is that I don't like how cartoony this game is. Maybe it will grow on me.

The cartoonishness was one of the reasons I put off getting into it, but it did grow on me.

As far as servers go I'm on Lightbringer, but I'm horde and it's fairly deadish, according to some site alliance outnumbers horde almost 4 to 1 on there.

Your not wrong about the cartoon quality but don't underestimate the ability of it to go "WoW Crack" on you. :)

One of things that happened to me when I started building all my toons was to just get them to the highest lvl.
When I first started it was the race to 60 ...thats how long ago that was.

it can be fun and there are some certain places that just look soooooo cool :) Like Ironforge or inside BlackRock mountain

I am a completionist. It will probably be a slow crawl to cap level, unless the game is too easy.

Character creation was sad. :( I feel like my girlie will look like everyone else. No boob size, or height, or any sliders. Character creation is maybe my favorite part of games.

But I decided to play on Silvermoon for now.

Yup but (esp re. the cartoon-like graphics) remember this game is almost (as of next year) ten years old, and much of the technology older. I think it was wise of them to go cartoony, look at other 2004 games that werent and see how badly they look after 9 years.

I'm comparing it to EQ2. And EQ2 is older. :p I just like the realistic look over the cartoony look. But I know that was the look in Warcraft... And World of Warcraft, of course, is based off of that.

When I do play, I play on Silvermoon and Argent Dawn. Both are pretty good servers with decent to good populations. I only recently started playing on Silvermoon, but I've been on Argent Dawn since 2005/6. Good stuff.

just like Madonna WoW always makes a comeback

i haven't played since WotLK, i was on Draenor had a blast playing on an off for years but wasn't interested in cata the server tho was fun although alliance outnumbered horde by about 5:1

I started out on a PvP server, but after a few years it just became a bore so I migrated over to Area 52, a normal server. The main reason with heading to that server was the fact it was a horde dominated server. The ratio is 0.161 A/H, which ranks 7th lowest, and in the top 20+ it is the only PvE server, which is interesting.

Don't let the cartoon-ish aspect fool you. The game play has always been the driving force of WoW. It's not as great as it used to be, but the fact remains that WoW has been a dominating force for 8 or 9 years now. One thing that is either a love/hate is leveling these days. They have made it incredibly fast to do now, which is nice for some, but I know the long grinds to get from 1-60 back in the vanilla days were actually sort of fun.

If you haven't bought the game already you may want to keep an eye on the Blizzard store. Not sure what their current pricing for the digital version of the game is, but I know they have different sales where you can get vanilla and a couple of the older expansions for like $5-$15.

My issue with WOW is the same one I have with Rift. Decent games, but the damn $15 a month is terrible.

Well it is hit or miss. On the plus side you get a continual evolving game, but at the same time they could charge $5-$10 and still provide the same quality game and turn a profit. Honestly I think $10/month is more ideal, or offer a yearly subscription for $99, which would give you a savings of like $50 over 2x6 month subs.

I didn't play Rift past my free time when I bought the digital deluxe edition. Visually it was stunning, but I felt the need to be part of a group to do a lot of stuff was too burdensome. I don't mind group stuff, but I also like to go off on my own and do things, which is why WoW is so much more appealing.

I play on Kel'Thuzad now but it is PVP. Elune, Lothar, and Ysera were all pretty good PVE servers. I really do not care for PVP servers but I followed my guild.

I have a feeling I'll be reactivating though I'm going to try and put it off until after May 5th. If anyone is on Stormrage that's where I'll probably be playing. I have six level 85 chars I should work on getting to 90 there plus a couple others. I also have a decent presence on Kilrogg and Azuremyst. It's always more fun for me to have others to do things with every now and then. While I suspect a few of my friends on Stormrage and Kilrogg are still around, if any of you are in those parts drop me a line on the forums if any of you would want to do something.

I played on Stormrage with Critical Mass from the end of Ulduar through just prior to Cataclysm. Stormrage isn't a bad server at all, except for the playing as Alliance part.

Yeah, I was with an alliance guild that transferred from (coincidentally) Malfurion to Stormrage hoping to have a large pool of good alliance to recruit from during WotLK. We fell apart though so I'd been mostly just running on the more casual side of things with friends up until I deactivated.

Looks like Stormrage is running about 5th or 6th server ranking wise these days, which means to me that the generally strong player base is still kicking. I just haven't had the desire to log into the game since mid Cataclysm. I think pet battles and fuzzy pandas really just quashed any desire I had to ever play again heh.

The new Cross Realm Zoning has taken away most of the benefits/handicaps of the server population of WoW. IMHO

I was on MoonGuard for most of the time I played WoW. Yes, it's an RP server. Yes, there was lots of ERP. It wasn't /every/where, though. They mostly contained themselves to Pornshire (Alliance) and Silverpoon (Horde). Being a big strapping young cow for most of my career, I made Thunder Bluff my home and rarely ran into any awkwardness.

As for why I even started there in the first place, the girl who got me into the game was playing on that server. *shrug*

Towards the end of my time on that game I moved to Nordrassil to hang out with a friend from high school.

Stormrage/Alliance - WoL ranked raider here.

I actually just deleted WoW from my computer but would reconsider if we had a camgirl/camboy guild. :thumbleft:

Actively playing and on Arygos.

I keep 'quitting' but then I got gifted 6 months of in game time for my Birthday lol so I guess I'm playing again.

:woops:
