what causes a thread to be locked?

I'm just curious as to what causes a thread to be locked and whether it can ever be unlocked.

Different things, its depends on the thread.

Sometimes there is no need for it to continue
Sometimes its gone nowhere but downhill or full of bashing and gets locked
Sometimes it is a duplicate thread but with some good info, so its kept but locked, I suppose.

and other reasons I am too buzzed to think of right now lol

In all honesty I've been amazed to see the levels of tomfuckery Amber and Jawbs let us engage in.

The one about scarlet was locked right after she was able to respond. I imagine it was for the douchebaggery... mudslinging etc.

When all posting adults are not behaving like adults, and are resorting to personal attacks and name-calling.

Or if we get the occasional weirdo that comes on here posting back-to-back threads where they're speaking gibberish. We've gotten quite a few of those lately. :?

I think if a thread gets locked, it was for good reasons and needs to stay locked.

I think yours was locked (it was you who started the thread about the model who had sex with her ex, right?) because even after explaining and re-explaining yourself about five times, you still weren't getting people to see things your way (which suggests you were the only one who ever saw them that way).
