I just started reading "Heir to the Empire (Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy One)" & it's surprised me with how good it is & I'm only two chapters in so far.

Thrawn is good villain, and makes you wonder how powerful the Empire would have been if it had not been run by a xenophobe.

I gave up on The Passage. Moving on to Enders Game in the next week or so.

I'm reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I'm reading it in short sessions so far because the style is kind of bugging me, but my friend who recommended it told me that if I can get over the earlier parts, it gets "real good!"

It's a murder mystery at least in part narrated alternately by the victim and her husband.

I'm reading "Guns, Germs, and Steel." Loooooong book, but good.

An interesting book, that has become more controversial over time. His second book Collapse is somewhat of a rehash and can be skipped.

One of the nicer forms of entertainment I've seen around.

Pornstars reading books while sitting on vibrators.

Part one http://claytoncubitt.tumblr.com/post/28527147496

I found this site about 6 months ago and have been intrigued. http://nakedgirlsreading.com/ Four or five woman sit around reading naked and guys (and gals) buy tickets, seems to be it would do a nice job of eliminating the open chest bb crowd. There have been readings all over the country,I'd be interested if anybody has participated or attended.

I read these as a kid!
I should go back and look at them again, I remember really liking them.

I love the Shannara series! It was my introduction to fantasy, and even though I got older and branched out to more complex fantasy, I still have to read the latest Brooks' book. Also, one of my fondest memories is being stuck in an airport as a kid during a snowstorm and buying & reading through Angel Fire East. :)

Bumping just cause I've finally had the chance to read for fun again. And I didn't feel like starting a new thread when this one was so lonely.

I read [am reading] 3 books recently.
Royal Airs by Sharon Shinn.
She's one of my favorite authors. Pretty much anything she's written I've enjoyed. This is the second in the series.
http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/sharon-shinn/royal-airs.htm

Damnation by Jean Johnson.
5th book in this series. She mostly writes romance so I haven't read anything but this series by her.
http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/j/jean-johnson/damnation.htm

And the one I'm currently reading. Tenacious by Mike Shepherd.
12 book in the Kris Longknife series.
http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/mike-shepherd/tenacious.htm

 I just realized all 3 books have female main characters.

I read a lot of books with female leads and female authors. Girls write better sex scenes if nothing else.

Currently reading Age of X by Richelle Mead. I'm re-reading the first one and then moving on to the newly released second book in the series.

I am currently reading The Essential Rumi, which is a collection of poems by Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi. If you aren't familiar with Rumi, he was a mystic of Sufism in the 13th Century. If you are person who has found any truth in the teachings of Zen Buddhism, this is pretty similar stuff, except it relates to the religion of Islam instead of Buddhism or Hinduism. Really beautiful stuff.

I'm also working through Aldous Huxley's Island. It is a novel about a remote island where the point of society is to enlighten it's citizens. The island is full of thousands of speaking birds which they've trained to say, "Attention! Be here now!" as they fly around reminding the people of the present moment and it's importance. Apparently there is a part coming up about tripping on magic mushrooms... I'm looking forward to that.

Then you might like the "Book of Dede Korkut" Its Turkish epic poetry from around the 9th century.

I'm currently reading through:

"Unfinished Tales" by J.R.R. Tolkien
"Shada" by Gareth Roberts (it's a Doctor Who book based on an unused screenplay by Douglas Adams)
"Two Graves" by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child (It's part of their Agent Pendergast series which started with "The Relic")
"The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett

I always have too many books going at one time, I guess what I want to read at any given moment just depends upon my mood.

The Island was interesting book, not as cool as Huxley's Brave New World, but the birds were great. Don't remember anything about magic mushrooms. It is been a while.

I just finished A billion wicked thoughts what the internet teaches about a sexual relationships. I knew men and woman viewed porn differently but it is really night and day. I wouldn't have guessed that gay men and straight men had such similar porn taste, it is really who they focus on when they watch porn. Straight and Lesbian woman really really prefer erotica, and only bisexual woman generally get off on visually oriented porn and stories.

I am now starting both the Luminaries, a novel by young New Zealand author Elaneor Catton, and Mission to Mars by Buzz Aldrin

Don't read nearly as much as I should considering how much great literature I have around the house collecting dust.

I started reading Stephen King's Desperation on my plane trips, I absolutely love it so far. Just gotta keep making reading time...

I'm currently reading this one too. I dug the film but the book (as is generally the case) is much more enjoyable. I actually really like the structure/narrative device the book uses, alternating between real-time chapters and old diary entries. I'm not a heavy reader so I appreciate the slightly shorter chapters, making it easier to dip in and out of when I have a few minutes spare.

After I'm done "The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes" I'm going back and re-reading The Silmalrillion, The Hobbit, and Lord of the Rings, and finally I will get around to Unfinished Tales, I've been given at least three copies of that over the years and have yet to actually read it. :woops:

"The Great Influenza" - nonfiction and pretty self explanatory on what it's about!

I've heard so many good things about "A Billion Wicked Thoughts". Glad to hear another person enjoyed it. I think I'm going to check it out soon.

I'm almost finished with The World of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, if you can't get enough info about A Song of Ice and Fire it's a great read full of the history of the different regions of Westeros.

After I finish with that I'm going to read Firefight by Brandon Sanderson. Admittedly it's a young adult series, but I've loved everything I've read by him and the first book was great.

I forgot about one. A couple months ago I watched The Equalizer (Denzel movie). In that he's reading books off the '100 Greatest Books Everyone Should Read' list. So I got motivate to put together all the books off this list. 100 Greatest Books

I read Cold Comfort Farm to begin with. I had only read 6 of them prior to that. Gonna try to work in one of them every few books I normally read.

Oh, and the movie version of Cold Comfort Farm...really bad rendition of the book. It was like they wanted to put all the 'big' British names of the time together to make bank. But it was a horrible version of the movie. Most actors were not cast right for their parts.

I decided to check out the Dark Tower series by Stephen King. About half way through 'The Gunslinger'

Dark Tower was a blessing and a curse. It got me back into books after a long break, but as I found it to be superbly brilliant(IMO), I couldn't find its equal. I reckon it was a year later before I found GoT.

So, I suppose I am still reading (waiting patiently for) next 'GoT' book and the last book in the 'Kingkiller Chronicles' by Patrick Rothfuss. Currently reading the epic 'Malazan Book of the Fallen' series by Steven Erikson, and two comic books, 'Saga' and 'TWD'.
