BELLINGHAM, Wash. (CBS Seattle) — One doctor is calling for the end to the “war on pubic hair.”

Family physician Emily Gibson made headlines recently for her public assertion that modern women should shy away from the practice of bikini waxing – which she referred to as the “war on pubic hair” – as the practice increases risk of various infections.

IDk.. maybe the 'War" is something she doesnt care for. I'm thinkin tho, if there was an increase in potential infection, it wouldn't be so popular and other medical professionals would have been ringing the bell long ago.
Personally, I hate the untamed forest look and its almost a given there wont be much if any oral. Well maintained 'patches' are fine tho. Its also a 2 sides coin. Unless you live under a bridge or in a cave, "Manscaping" is also very conducive to 'promoting increased oral activity'. :mrgreen:

The "war" on pubic hair has been going on ever since people realized that you get it.

People were removing pubic hair in ancient cultures because a smooth, hairless body was youthful and desirable, and that hasn't seemed to have changed much.

Why people choose to depilate their crotches is their own business. I do think it is a good idea that more people understand the actual physical risks of it, but I'm guessing at least millions of men and women get waxed on a regular basis here in the States. So far the only horror stories I've heard are from women with very sensitive skin who get irritation.

I heard a story that this man from a long time ago got married and then on realising his wife had body hair (as he'd only seen nude sculptures/paintings with no hair) and he never spoke to her again! Things like that make me laugh!

Hair removal in the United States reportedly cost Americans a whopping $2.1 billion. And not long ago, photographs of young female celebrities leaving little to the imagination were seen on a near-daily basis, the exposed nature of the pictures showing just how prevalent the trend of pubic hair removal has become.

A near daily basis? Ha, maybe a total 3 come to mind weeks apart unless I'm missing something. I remember that Hilton skank was one, then Brittany Spears and of course, Lindsay Lohan didn't want to be left out.

How about a war on ignorance and maybe suggesting safer ways instead of just telling people not to shave their pubes. Women have been shaving their pits since we left the caves and never heard of any infections from that.

When I see people insisting that women shouldn't shave because it's unnatural or makes them look prepubescent or yadda yadda yadda, eleventy seven other bullshit reasons... I wonder why they don't also insist that every man should have a full beard. (Not what this article is saying, at least explicitly, but it always seems to come up.)

Do what you want with your pubic hair, and your body in general. Sure, be informed... there's a risk of infection, certainly. Same with shaving your face or your underarms. But it's not so extreme as this alarmist doctor is trying to make it out to be.

What i found most amusing were the readers' comments (a small selection of my favourites):

Personally I prefer a girl to keep it neat but not shave the whole lot off so they look either extremely young or just plain nasty. Vulvas aren't very pleasant to look at, neat pubic hair usually makes them look nicer; the same goes for penii.

I've shaved once or twice, didn't really like it that much. These days a good short back and sides with the nail scissors every few weeks has the desired effect.

Pubic hair is extremely useful. It acts as a natural, God-given badger hair shaving brush with which you can work up a decent lather when showering.

Speaking as a horse, I can only daydream enviously of a protective mantle with which to obscure my nether regions from the prying eyes of the young ladies at the riding club. Doubtless however, they'd just end up plaiting it, like they do with my other "mane." You just can't stop those perverts.

Sigh. Some people just don't know how lucky they are.

I find it easier to clean the lubricant off after a good wank.

I'm no doctor so I'm not saying there's no way it could cause health issues. But personally, I've been shaving that stuff almost the whole time I've been old enough to grow it and the only problems it has ever caused me were razor burn and cuts lol.

I remember my sister complaining when she was shaved by the hospital for "hygiene" reasons prior to giving birth back in the 70s. Its also the fashion in many north African and Arabic cultures and has been for millennia. Its just fashion, and has no more major health effects than walking around in high heels or exposing lots of skin to be sexy.

Telling girls what to do with any of their hair is risky. :lol: On top of that, I think it's pretty irresponsible for a medical professional to insinuate that pubes are going to protect women from STDs or STIs in any way.

You know, I hear this sort of stuff about basically anything you can do to your pubic area. Shave, don't shave. Wax, don't wax. Having a genital piercing makes you a bajillion-million times more likely to get herpagonasyphilis. I love that a great majority of these people just totally ignore that the number one way to avoid STDs and STIs...don't have lots of unprotected sexy times with people whose sexual history you don't know.

I like to shave, it makes me feel sexy. And since I'm an informed and educated adult that gets frequent tests and always checks tests of those I bone...well, I'm gonna continue to shave.

I got shaved when I had my surgery. Fuck, worst experience ever. They dry shaved me against the grain. I was red and swollen for weeks and it took forever to get rid of the damn razor burn. :angry4:
