Hey y'all!

I've been editing videos in movie maker and I've hit a speedbump - I've been getting black bars around the videos, which make them look unprofessional in the previews on clip sites.

Movie maker has two size settings - widescreen or standard. Widescreen gives my vids black bars on the sides, and standard gives the vids black bars on the top. I want no black bars.

Does anyone know how to get around this? Or - if it is not possible to fix, what do you use to edit your videos?

Have you considered downloading a separate video cropping software? could just crop the black bits off after you export it from movie maker :)

Yes - Is there anything you could reccomend (or anyone reading this) that would allow me to crop a movie?

I've been using WMM for years and I've never had that problem, that's weird

Yeah, it's only been happening recently and I am not sure why, but my current guess is that it is because my new webcam is taller than standard (Logitech c390) and then the other videos I am editing are not mine- they were previously edited on my friends mac with her mac software which maybe has different
standard sizing / resolution / whatever that word is.

I don't have the issue so i don't have need for one, but a quick Google brought this up :) hope it helps some.

I love OpenShot, developer is a great guy, but the Windows version isn't ready for prime time. Besides, if WMM is working for your editing go with it. I liked it in a lot of ways.

What I would/did do for a workflow is edit in WMM - don't worry about the black bars. Output to the highest quality.

Then run it through Handbrake, cropping is easy on the Picture tab with a preview. Cropping and compression is the extent of Handbrake's editing potential, it's meant to transcode a video to a smaller output file not edit.

AppleTV2 preset works brilliantly so long at you're at 30fps. If at 24, just change that on the Video tab.

Been awhile since I've used Windows, h.264 is your preferred output video codec. .MP4 your container. (or .M4V, same thing mostly, .MP4 can also contain MPEG2) As I recall those are all ready to go in Win 7 and higher.

Had to go look at the Windows version to check a few things
