I need advice from someone more tech savvy than me.

After going through several computers because they were faulty, I finally have one that doesn't appear to be fucking up. All of which had 8.1. The computer I have right now is running on 8 and it seems to be working fine. Well, now it is wanting me to update to 8.1 and I'm not sure if it's a good idea. The others I had were HP computers and they all failed me, so maybe it was the brand. I never really got a chance to use the computers hardcore for camming or video editing because they all fucked up pretty quickly. And with me not being tech savvy, I didn't know whether it was the OS or the computers themselves. I have a Lenovo all-in-one now and my last Lenovo was amazing and so far it's running smoothly. But I don't want it to potentially get messed up because of 8.1. I've heard bad things about people who've updated and their computers are ruined now.

Long story short, yay or nay for 8.1

Personally if it's running fine for you right now I'd keep win 8 for now. Wait until Win 10 (not the technical release like right now, but the full release) is being given away free to users. Take the time then to upgrade. Wait a month or two after for the inevitable bug fixes that will come out after of course.

That said win 8.1 does fix a few problems. Makes for easier integration to your Skydrive account if you use that. And a few other advantages. But like I said, if it's already working okay for you... The age old motto applies: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Either way you decide you might want to look at installing Classic Shell if you haven't already. I like it way better, but that's me.

8.1 does pretty well on my Toshiba. It actually stopped asking me if I wanted to upgrade and just did it one day. It was not as bad as I feared, and I haven't had any problems.

Is that one of the Lenovos with a touch-screen? If it is, and you don't mind the Metro UI, you might want to stick with 8.0. And yeah, if you just want to change the UI, Classic Shell is pretty popular. Mind you, when I upgraded my laptop to 8.1, I didn't have any problems, and it's even an HP.

Well, I was going to hold off on updating, but it updated automatically. Since then its been acting weird. The keyboard has trouble being recognized and I have to unplug it and plug it back in multiple times for it to work. It's also been randomly waking up out of sleep mode.
