After being informed this morning of a Twitter account using my image as their avatar (without my knowledge, consent, or any credit given, he wasn't even a promoter ffs) it dawned on me that maybe people just don't know proper etiquette about this sort of thing. I mean, common sense would tell any half-decent person that it's bad form to use images without credit in this way... but let's get some feedback!

Answer the poll above and reply with any comments on the subject.

I'm currently being used as the header/avatar for one promoter, who also happens to be a model, who asked for girls who'd be interested. IMO, that's the ONLY time it's okay, or if you ask the model if she'd be interested and she says yes.

When you're the header/avatar for a promoter it implies that you agree with what they're doing/are a spokesmodel for them. So, since promoters are generally skeezeballs, if they're using a models images without her consent it makes the promoter look better (Oh, this promoter must be good, AmberCutie is their main girl right now) and makes the model look bad (that promoter just asked me for a free skype show, I can't believe SexySteph supports them!)

Ugh. How is this even a question that needs to be asked?

I feel like I would be more creeped out than anything if someone was using my image. I tend to think if someone is using my picture, it needs to be because they have paid for that picture through a modelling or endorsement contract.

Ugh this annoys me so much! There is this guy in Colombia, Juan Bustos and his ENTIRE business is based on screencapturing successfull moments of other models, or big tips, and then telling the other wannabe cammodels how to do it and why its good. Thats fine I guess but he NEVER puts credit to where he got the image or who the model is and it just feels really parasity.

Or maybe I am over reacting but if you use someone else success to profit commercially, you should, at the very least tag them in it and give credit I believe.

If I can clearly see that it's a fan giving credit (putting me there like some people put up their favorite superhero etc) then I am a bit more lenient in my feelings about it. I'd still prefer they ask first.

If it's being used for promotion or to gain in any way asking and acquiring permission is mandatory imo.

A little bit of a tangent, but also I find this sort of thing unprofessional and offputting:

They repeatedly used an edited image of an old pop group named Danity Kane that was taken for PETA:

It almost makes it seem like the pop group endorses this repurposed showerhead company, but I'm guessing they have no clue, lol

Edit: By the way, ladies, just put a handheld showerhead on your wishlist and have a member grab ya one if you are interested in this "product"... hehe.

I'm not SUPER particular. If I get credited, and it's a promoter I work with, then it's okay. If it's not someone I know, or work with, then I block them. Simple enough. The only promoter I REALLY work with is Bearhug Camgirls, and that's because he's tipped me, buys content, asked before posting anything (though I wouldn't have minded other wise because he always credits me), NEVER CREEPILY HITS ON ME (this is a BIG deal to me), asks me how I'm doing without being weird etc.

He's like a great reg, who isn't a reg.

Other people I just block without remorse usually.

Nope, you're not overreacting at all. It annoys me when people do stuff like that.

Unfortunately, most of these "promoters" don't care about what we want or think at all. They will pretty much do close to *anything* to draw attention to their account in hopes people sign up with their affiliate links. Stealing images is very, very common.

If I wasn't asked permission first AND credited, I would absolutely confront said "promoter". Stealing is stealing. It's my copyright and my face, and if they're a shitty promoter, then I don't want my name attached to them in any way shape or form. Nu uh.

I'd always prefer being asked, and have often let legit promoters use my photo as their avi. I'll even tolerate regular people using my image if I'm credited and they ask first. Hell, one promoter was even awesome enough to pay for photos to use on his profile, as well as credit me and get me more followers. But when people do it without asking, it irks me.

I feel a bit hypocritical here because I really don't get worked up over people capping my shows. I guess the difference being that my Twitter is mine and mine alone, and not under contract with my camsite. I mean, with Streamate I knowingly sign over rights to my image in exchange for traffic, ranking, and income. Having my image taken without my consent/knowledge/credit on Twitter? I'm not getting anything back from that. If there's no way I can potentially benefit from somebody using my image, I don't want them using it.

I'm with you on Bearhug
He is the nicest one I've had contact with and always tips for me snaps , content , custom content & has never asked me for a discount or sent a creepy msg

I've only had two use my photo with no credit luckily both removed it when I asked them to give me credit or take it down.

I choose the final option because I've recently had promoters using my images and Twitter name when I'm online. They're using their affiliate link to get new signups by promoting my camroom when I'm live on SM. I don't mind that in the grand scheme of things because most promoters cater to a different group than my own Twitter attracts and hey, they get a cut of what the member spends but that doesn't affect what I'm paid since I don't really focus on pushing my affiliate link while actively online. I've never minded in the past and until recently I probably would have clicked the first option.

However, recently I had a promoter start stating that I was born 4/20 1990 (Ha!) and basically spamming that I was always high or lighting up on cam. I don't smoke weed. Not because I'm opposed to it but because it does nothing for me and having to explain that to literally dozens of dudes each time this person started spamming my camroom to his followers was hella frustrating. Both to me and to the guys that wanted to talk bud with me while we both rub one out.

Oh shit, I never even noticed this was a stolen image of Danity Kane. I've been retweeteing this picture for weeks hoping to win that shower head haha.

As far as promoters go, I had one guy ask me what my name was on Skyprivate. I gave it to him because I thought he was wanting a show. He made an affiliate link out of my link to my profile without asking and is now promoting me without my permission using his affiliate link. I'm asking him to remove the tweet, but we'll see if he does.

I don't allow anyone to promote me using my images unless I've said so. Images I post that are retweeted are fine and I'll let images slide if the promoter uses my links and not affiliate ones as well as my original watermarked photos.

What I want to add is that you should never sign up or give your personal info away just to get promoted on twitter. When I was young and dumb, I willingly did that and the guy was like, "Hey, I live in that same state too. Maybe I can get a show sometime..." I shut my account down on his site faster than you could say f*** it.
