I honestly hadn't thought about it in those terms. Now I think that poster is the PERFECT example to be posted in a body acceptance thread. Rather glad I did.LilyEvans said:JerryBoBerry said::hello2:
A woman who suffered from severe body image issues and several eating disorders isn't the most ideal example of body acceptance.

Hm, that's weird. Your BMI is 17.4 which is not that awfully low.GemmaMoore146 said:LilyMarie said:OT, but may I ask how your size and weight makes you a genetic oddity? I've been called that by several doctors, it's not a term I coined myself. :thumbleft:

I know, I wasn't saying that I don't believe you or that the people who told you that are not doctors or anything It just struck me as odd because a BMI between 17 and 18 (or 17 and 18.5? I don't know) at our age is classified as slightly underweight. (I think 18-24 is 'normal'.)GemmaMoore146 said:LilyMarie said:Hm, that's weird. I have been told consistently throughout my life by doctors that I stand out like a sore thumb for my height/weight ratio, and the fact that it's also a healthy weight for me is highly unusual. I'm not a doctor, and don't claim to be - All I was saying was what has been told to me for years by people who actually are health care professionals.

I would also say that considering your height, You appear to be more around the 105-115 range so that 95 number is probably kind of shocking to doctors!GemmaMoore146 said:LilyMarie said:I know, I wasn't saying that I don't believe you or that the people who told you that are not doctors or anything It just struck me as odd because a BMI between 17 and 18 (or 17 and 18.5? You have to understand that in the U.S., people with 'normal' BMIs are not the majority, and being even slightly underweight in on the BMI is really rare. And since I eat what is considered a 'normal' American diet (complete with fast food 2-3 times per week), I think the 'genetic oddity' part they're referring to is more to do with the fact that I'm not at a MUCH higher BMI with my activity level and caloric intake. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/databriefs/adultweight.pdf

We have a very similar body shape/size and even though I'm only 2 inches taller at 5'4'' I'm around 115. I don't think most people would guess you to be 20lbs or more lighter than me.
Is that maybe part of the oddity thing? That 95 just seems like a small number?

I have no friggin' clue. Again, not a doctor, all I can tell you is what they've said to me. I'm personally very self-conscious about not being in the triple digits.
Yes, Red is correct. It's obvious the only way to make any progress from this situation is to have nude pictures of both you of you. For science.Red7227 said:GemmaMoore146 said:JoleneBrody said:Is that maybe part of the oddity thing? That 95 just seems like a small number?

We clearly need front, side and rear nude pictures of you two to compare. Do it for science ladies.

Funny you mention that. I was just now watching an MFC model who, while not overweight, is very curvy and still quite gap-thighed.JickyJuly said:Thigh gap and weight aren't that related. Usually, I'm 5'5" and 110 pounds with thighs that don't touch. At 6 months pregnant and almost 30 pounds heavier, they still aren't touching. I've always attributed this to having unattractive stick legs and found the only plus to be the ability to wear corduroy pants without making noises. Girls are weird. If you tell a chick she has thigh gap it's hot, but if you say she has wide hips (the obvious reason for such a thing) it's insulting. Kind of proves that ads like this can fuck up our brainsssss.

We're the same size (well height and weight wise), but my pants still make noise when I walk. >: And I wear a size 1 or 25. ;_; Maybe it's because no booty though?
I don't have a lot of butt either and my pre-baby body had less boobage than yours, but my hips are wide enough that they'd never dream of fitting into a 1 or a 25. It could also be the clompy way I walk keeping the cords from being obnoxious, but that was really the only thigh gap plus I could think of.Red7227 said:MintyFlowers said:JickyJuly said:Thigh gap and weight aren't that related. Nah, its probably just the shape of your pelvis. Jennifer Lawrence, Shakira and Lucy Liu don't have thigh gaps, so you are in very good company.
Yeah, I've never heard wide hips as an insult?Sevrin said:Do women really consider it insulting to be thought of as having "wide hips", or as they used to be called "child-bearing hips"?JickyJuly said:If you tell a chick she has thigh gap it's hot, but if you say she has wide hips (the obvious reason for such a thing) it's insulting. I pretty much wouldn't call anything on a woman wide if I wanted her to like me.eclipse76 said:Yeah, I've never heard wide hips as an insult?Sevrin said:Do women really consider it insulting to be thought of as having "wide hips", or as they used to be called "child-bearing hips"?JickyJuly said:If you tell a chick she has thigh gap it's hot, but if you say she has wide hips (the obvious reason for such a thing) it's insulting. You've probably never been in the modeling industry, then. When an agency or photog says you have "wide hips" it's a nicer way of telling you to lose weight. Sad, but it happens.eclipse76 said:Yeah, I've never heard wide hips as an insult?Sevrin said:Do women really consider it insulting to be thought of as having "wide hips", or as they used to be called "child-bearing hips"?JickyJuly said:If you tell a chick she has thigh gap it's hot, but if you say she has wide hips (the obvious reason for such a thing) it's insulting.
