Frist some back ground I do tech support for a living. Can’t say who I work for but a government agency is as far I go. There are a few places here in the ACF that offer help from basic to over the top. I want to put a place up were we can just ask and get answers all in one place.
Ranking: since we all have different level of skills and comfort zone I offer up that advice and answers be rated as follows
*= easy a few clicks and something every one with a computer should be able to do. This is not about skill but some times is the basics we for get.
**= a bit more this would be not average knowledge and a walk though would be expected. Where to click what to type. Or it’s in a hidden file/folder
***= this is where we get in to the visual aids screen caps are normally welcome here. This is the stuff even we tech guys have to google.
****= unless you are REALLY comfortable following a set up pics and text take it to a pro. This borders on just restore back to factory cause even tech guys are going to have to do a long search.
*****= this is a skull and cross bones. There is almost no or is not way to fix it. Its cheaper and easyer to replace it.
Some quick advice:
(*) Always clear your internet temp files and java temp files if you have a win 7 computer. Then shut down, wait 60 seconds and reboot. At the first sign of trouble.
(*) run your anti-virus. A quick scan is usually ok. But once a week run the full scan, yes it’s up to 2 hours. If a full scan take logner that 3 to complete and it not finding any-thing take it in.
(*) if your computer blue screens don’t ignore it. Take a cell phone pic of the screen and seek help. This is normally damaged RAM or corrupted critical windows files.
