I just wanted to take a moment to discuss the gender gap in the cam model world. This may be rant-y but I just really want to speak my mind to my professional peers on this topic and find it highly inappropriate to bring up professional discussion while models are working. I have been newly introduced to the forum, I apologize if this is a recurring topic of discussion but this is honestly the best place I know of for this; if you know of any better place please do not hesitate to let me know.

A very short background before I begin; I am a 27 year old male cam model and have been camming on CB for over a year now. I have a much more conversational/tease style than anything else, a style that I feel most comfortable with and around in the cam-world. I view adult entertainment as much more than interactive porn and try diversify adult entertainment as much as possible. Camming is a large portion of my income and my primary profession.

That being said, I take this job extremely seriously. I put in the hours on-cam and off-cam. Despite this, the fact that I was born with a penis dooms me to the fact that I will not be taken seriously by my peers. I use the term "peers" loosely because of... well... the main topic of this thread, which I am now (finally, I know I ramble, sorry) arriving at.

In my experience, nearly all male cam models are not taken seriously by female cam models. In nearly every interaction I have with other models (be it trying to make friends in the industry, looking for a potential cam partner, looking for professional advice or feedback, etc.) there is always the air of a hidden agenda: that I am a testosterone-fueled manipulation machine looking for free handouts or something to put my dick in. Many times it has gotten to the point where I don't tell models that I share the profession simply because I don't want to see that "oh.... you're a camguy" face.

I have been blessed to find a few open-minded individuals that will see past the gender barrier; the rarity of this is something that I can not stress enough. I could take this moment to go into a pity-party about all the professional factors working against straight solo male models that females do not have to deal with, but I feel this is an unspoken understanding.

We are all in the same industry. We all deal with celebrations and pitfalls of the same ilk to differing degrees. Why, simply because we have different genital configurations, are males viewed as different (specifically lower) entities entirely? Why is it completely acceptable for female models to discuss our profession and open all lines of communication with other female models but build a wall of trepidation if the model happens to be a man?

I would really like to hear some candid, honest feedback on this topic. It is a constant, disheartening struggle to be putting in the all the same work, dealing with all the same bullshit and feeling all the same pressures as female cam models and knowing that I, inexorably, will potentially never be treated equally.

I do not have anything substantial to add or say on this matter, but I'm curious to see where this thread will go, I'm sure a few models have thoughts about this.
For me personal, it's just the fact I've never encountered a male cam performer and therefor do not have any in my (online) contacts. For me, and I'm sure for many more, it's not a matter of not wanting, it's just not that it's not 'there'. I don't know the exact ratio but I'm guessing it's mostly because male models are a big minority in camland.

This is because some of the members that visit camgirls have shot male cam models in the foot, pretty much. They'll sign up for sites like CB, broadcast a couple times, then go back to the model they like saying 'I'm a camguy now, we're totally on the same playing field! Wanna make some content?' and expect her to fuck them. I've had at least a dozen guys pull this exact stunt (over the last year) and come back to me with that expectation that now they're okay to make B/G content with, and then after they realize it's not working, they'll never cam again. Or they'll pretend to be looking for 'behind the scenes' advice, or be trying to get inside info on your identity/make you comfy enough to invite them over. :?

Is it fair to guys like you are are legitimate, hard-working camguys? No. But the pool of 'camguys' who are actually just camsite members who want girls to fuck them is pretty darn high. High enough that most camgirls won't touch a camguy with a 10 ft pole, just in case he's not actually legit. It definitely has to suck to be in your postion, but it's really not your fault at all, it's nothing you're doing wrong, and I'm sure you're a very sweet, hard-working model. The blame falls on the hundreds of guys who have tried to pull that scam on camgirls, and thus soured them to ever working with a male model.

It's also worth noting that camgirls in general have very, VERY high standards of who they share their contact info with, and most wouldn't in a million years risk filling out a 2257 form with their real info to make content/cam with someone they didn't personally know very well. Again, this goes with the 'guys just camming to get pussy' scenario outlined above; it could also result in them being stalked/blackmailed. Then there's dealing with STD testing, figuring out things around other partners (most camgirls make their B/G content exclusively with significant others, who may or may not want them fucking another guy, let alone on camera...), having to disclose their real name/address, etc. It's all just a bit clusterfuck of 'Hell no' for most girls, and I think you can understand why.

That's my :twocents-02cents:

Unfortunately, the reason that many female cam models show those reactions is because most of the interaction that we've had with male cam models has led us to believe that they're going to behave a certain way. It's a bit rare to see a male model who really takes the job seriously, or even sees it as a job. A lot of the guys who are on cam on CB are there to show off, and aren't as focused on getting paid because, hey, hot women are looking at their penis. Not to say that every male model behaves this way, but there seems to be a higher percentage of male models compared to female models who are just enjoying the exhibition aspect with no expectation of profit.

My personal experience hasn't been the best, so I'll admit, I may be slightly biased. If someone tells me that they're a male cam model, I'll respond with, "are you really?" meanwhile, wondering if he's a serious model, or if he's just a dude who jacks off on cam for fun. Every time someone in my room has identified himself as a male model, he hasn't been tipping, and kept asking me to watch his cam for free. Kinda crummy behavior, if you ask me. Regardless of who you are, if you want a model to watch your cam RIGHT NOW, it's expected that you're going to tip, rather than try to sway her opinion with "I'm really hot, it'll be worth it just to see how sexy I am/how awesome my penis is".

That being said, it's refreshing to hear from a male model who does take his job seriously. I think there are more guys like you than we're aware of, they're just not as vocal in the community as we ladies are. Welcome, I hope you enjoy the forum!

Because up until very recently, there where basically no male cam models who took THEMSELVES seriously. You are still rare, but with the growth of Chaturbate the male Cammodel who actually socializes and shows some sign of actually life outside of an awkward angle, headless wank for seemingly hours on end is growing... but only JUST barely. This is still very new territory that's coming up on the coattails of YEARS and YEARS of... the reason why people don't take you seriously.

Your fellow male cam models created this monster unfortunately, it's up to the newer generation to change peoples perceptions going forward. you can't force it though, you just need to lead by example.

Thor did a LOT of good for the male cam model world! He really kicked off people looking at camdudes a little differently, but the percentage still strongly lies in emotionless wangs in a dark room wanking for free just cuz they want people to watch and using it as a gateway to be uber creepy. Until the percentage starts to rule in favor of the more serious camguys it's going to be hard to combat that perception, because at this time that perception is MOSTLY correct. Not completely, but it is based on reality.

It sucks, yeah! I'm super happy to see more camguys come up who are social and hardworking and creative! I really hope that it continues to grow but in the meantime, you just have to be patient and do your best to be an ambassador of your industry. You are a pioneer and you probably didn't even know!

As a side note: I'm sure I'm not the only lady on here who's interested in perving on you, so maybe post a link to your CB profile? :thumbleft:

To be completely honest, I did not expect this kind of reception and I am genuinely grateful for you kindness and open-mindedness. This, in itself, is incredibly encouraging.

I am aware of my competition and have made it a distinct point to NOT pay attention to them. I get room fishers constantly ("I'll do that for free, and more!") and people wondering why I have goals or am looking for tips. Not a fun experience and the looming competition of "exhibitionists" is ever-present regardless of my intentional ignorance of their presence. VERY tough to compete with FREE.

I am aware that I am an.... anomaly, of sorts... I have always viewed my room as a "unique" experience for CB (mostly because 99% of my viewers are gay males and are genuinely shocked that I'm talking to them). I am extremely glad that there is support for what I do. It is exhausting swimming against the tide and, honestly, for me and my peers to be taken seriously and for this "movement" to get and form of traction, I really feel like there needs to be active acceptance from both sides of the gender wall. Knowing that it is there is extremely reassuring and I really hope that it can continue in other forms and venues.

@JoleneBrody - I am glad to say that I had the opportunity to meet and become friends with Thor before he moved on to other interests; he was a great help and inspiration in getting my room fully established to where it is today.

Thank you all for the compliments and encouragement again, things have been really tough lately and knowing I have support for what I do means more than you know.

dude. I gotta catch one of your shows....

I warmly embrace those of all races, religions, political affiliations and genders in my room but I do have to say, having the presence of females in my room is something that is sorely missed.

2 straight weeks of 20ish non-tipping gay men that wanna fuck my toes gets old and repetitive after a while...

I have to ask: What does 'DD' mean? Is it the new bb? :confused2:

Took me a bit to figure it out, it's short for "daddy" which really kinda creeps me out.

I don't wander out of Models Only very frequently, but if I may just say—Gemma's guess about Deez being a "very sweet, hard-working model" is something I can vouch for. He's a great MFC premium, and a super fun model to watch on CB!

(And if I may also say, he's never asked me to create content with him or give him content for free "since we're both in the biz." It does happen all the time that people will "pretend" to be cam models in order to get extra attention and content, but he's not one of 'em.)

So glad you signed up for ACF, Deez! Hope these other ladies can be a fantastic resource. So much love for ACF! :love7:

Damn, now shit is just getting out of hand. BB is one thing that makes my eye twitch, but DD? Pretty sure I'm going to start calling people FF, for fuck face. The end.

Don't forget SS for Shit-Stain.

Damn! How dare I forget that one. Good thing you speak my language. That could have been embarrassing.

So far everything Deez has said makes me like him. I want to check on one of his shows too. :p It looks like I'll have to stay up past my bedtime, though!

Deez, I like you.

But I do not enjoy 99% of the "male models" on SM who come into my room with the assumption that I'll give them unlimited special attention because we have the same "job." And they usually are pretty adamant about making a couples account with me. Ummm no ty.

Unfortunately, like everyone else said, this is why we shy away from men who introduce themselves as male cam models.

But you... I like you. So far. So far everything you've said makes me like you. So I hope the male cam world is changing!

Thank you so much for vouching for me, Lor (and for everything else over the time we've known each other)! It means more than I can put into words.

Here's the deal on my end to sorta elaborate. Camming, on either side of the camera, is not a sexual experience for me. It is social. The word "entertainment" spans so much more than just sexuality and my personal sexuality is a very in-person thing. When I visit models, I go to hang out and I try my hardest to compensate them for the services they are providing for me as I can. I don't expect anything in return for this since services have already been rendered (providing a venue, entertainment and interaction). Anything beyond just chatting is entirely up to the model's discretion and I will and have never push(ed) that. I have actually turned down content offered to me and had them give it to other regulars by several of my favorite models, not out of a lack of attraction but because I see my model friends as friends who are working, not as sexual objects. It's just not that kind of relationship for me. I jerk off on my own time (and need to keep in mind holding off for potential private shows...), I don't jerk off when I'm hanging out with my friends. That's just the way I see it, might be weird, doesn't mean I'm not sexually attracted models I visit, it just means that my sexuality doesn't function that way.

I have thought about cam modeling just for the experience of it, but deep down inside I am afraid I would be alone in an empty room.

A lot of times that's exactly what it is.

I took 3 months off over last winter because I was pulling 4-5 hour shifts every day and not getting more than... maybe 5-7 people in my room? It's really discouraging and you need to be a very resilient and resourceful individual to not only draw in viewers and get them to tip (or even talk) but to get them to come back.

You'd be surprised at what niche markets are out there that are untapped and you might fall into one of them, who knows? If you are seriously considering getting into it, get a game plan ready, be prepared for empty rooms and slow nights (as they happen to EVERYONE) and find what your "thing" is.

Best of luck if you choose to give it a shot!
