Wow. So much I'm shaking my head at in this post.

Clearly, his rights are not in jeopardy here. He's been drugging and raping women since the 60s, has never spent a day in jail for it, and it's looking extremely likely that he never will. I'd say his rights have been pretty damn well protected.

This is about people whose first instinct is to doubt any woman who says she was raped.

No, this has nothing to do with people who doubt any woman who says she was raped. You seem to want to make it that due to your bias. But it's not. No one has said that. We have repeatedly mentioned his [A DEFENDANTS] rights under the law. Which should be blind to the sex of the one involved. You are the only one who keeps saying us men are doubting the women. Personally I don't doubt them. I also don't give a shit. He still has his rights. If you can't see that you are the one who is prejudice here.

They'll say "Remember, Bill Cosby has rights," but what they really want to say is "That bitch is probably lying."

Please don't put words in our mouths. You are horrible at it. No one has even implied that anywhere in this thread. You need anger management classes and probably therapy I'm guessing. Your imagination is clouding your judgement badly.

Is that the case with Jerry? I don't know him and I can't say because only he knows. But when you make that position your first priority and defend it so passionately, you put yourself in some really dubious company.

The only correct thing you've said this entire thread is you don't know me. Making the position that a defendants rights are first priority in any criminal case is the most important thing in our judicial system. It does not put a person in dubious company, it puts them in company of others who care about a fair system that gives all accused a fair chance under the law. You're trying to undermine and devalue that puts you squarely in dubious company.

Think about it like this: We're all adults here, we've all had quite a bit of experience of the world. When a person starts a sentence by saying, "I'm not racist, but...." haven't you learned to usually expect some really racist shit to follow that?

Seriously, if you ever get picked for jury duty make sure you tell the judge and lawyers how predisposed you are to convict people so you can be recused. Your inability to understand even the basic concepts of rights and innocent before proven guilty is frightening to rational people.

Bottom line: Making 'Bill Cosby has rights' the centerpiece of your argument about this case is simply blowing the dog whistle. If you aren't using it as code, fine, but it sure as hell makes it look like you are.

I've been very clear that this conversation is NOT about denying him his right to a fair trial or the Constitution or any of those other lofty concepts. You want to keep spinning this false narrative that I'm saying deny him due process, or that I don't believe the accused deserve fair treatment, fine. But I bet you I'm the only one in this particular discussion so far who's worked to get innocent people out of jail or who has worked for the defense side on a criminal case.

What this whole conversation is actually about: Acknowledging the reality of this case, which is that Bill Cosby did this and may have to pay out a bunch of money, but will otherwise go unpunished. And that people should damn well be more passionate about speaking up for his victims than for Bill Cosby.

But like I posted to someone else yesterday, if, after all this, you still don't get it, then you are never going to. Any further back-and-forth on it is just a waste of time.

OK, just one more point I want to make, and then we can get back to the topic of tittays...
If this ever did or does go to criminal court, making sure that Cosby's rights are not infringed in the slightest, and that he is given the best possible defense, the first priority of all parties involved, actually helps protect his victims, should the outcome be a guilty verdict... Because, you know good and damn well should that happen, his lawyers will immediately be filing paper work to the appellate court. The first thing they will be doing is looking for any kind of slip up from the prosecution to claim that Cosby wasn't given a fair trial. By making sure that Cosby's rights are first a foremost respected helps make sure that any future appeal of a guilty verdict will be denied.
