Hard candy is one of the most psychologically twisted, dark and deep movies I've ever seen. I love it!

Though, all men, head warning. You might be slightly uncomfortable while watching it - don't turn it off!
A lot of great movies but this 1 was exceptional.
Here are a couple of others,
Bad Boy Bubby (hehe, the clingwrap killer. Love this movie) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106341/
IP Man http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1220719/
IP Man 2 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1386932/ (Great choices if you like karate/kung fu type action)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1132620/
Män som hatar kvinnor (original title) [I have only seen the European version] And anything by Jet Li http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001472/ or Jason Statham http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005458/
Almost forgot,
A Love Song for Bobby Long http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369672/

Juno -great movie especially if you like dry humor and even though it sounds chick-flickish its really not

I love Juno. Amazing script, great cast, great performances. Ellen Page is beyond lovely. She's also awesome in Whip It. I heart Ellen Page hard. She doesn't want me though because I have a willy :(

Another movie that was just on AMC that I've always enjoyed has been "Legends of a fall" with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins as his father set in World War I era in the country, I believe Montana. A woman shows up and Brad Pitt and his two brothers all fall for her and the trouble starts there with a family that seems so close at times and so far apart at others.

You certainly have a better chance than I :)

The Good (2009) Just caught the end of it on cable. Forgot how much I liked this movie for its wonderfully idiotic sexual one liners, like, "If he pulls this off, I'll eat my own pussy" and, "Like a hyena blowing a rhino".

I am glad it was near over when I found it, I might have been temped to watch, but I would not have. I have never liked it, but now find it impossible to watch any movie, no matter how much I like it, if it is riddled with voice overs where "Frigging ridicules" takes the place of, "Fucking ridicules" and takes 3 hours to watch b/c of commercials. I have friends get almost angry b/c I wont watch some movie they feel I need to see. None seem to understand this. I am curious if anyone else feels the same, or is my complete refusal on this, extreme?

Two of my favorites are:
Road to Perdition
Memoirs of a Geisha

They're both really good!

The book Memoirs of a Geisha is great! I downloaded the audio book, and the woman reading it has the most pleasant voice ever!! I'd fall asleep all the time and have to find my way back to where I was :p

I just watched The Rite with Sir Anthony Hopkins in it, brilliant movie!

Lotta good movies in this thread
I'll add blade runner, the bone collector, and 12 monkeys to the list

Heat: Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Val Kilmer, guns, good guys, bad guys, awesome soundtrack, guns, heists, can't go wrong.

Shawshank Redemption

My all-time favorite movie. :thumbleft:

Someone posted on Twitter earlier that he was watching Gran Torino, which is another movie I liked a lot.

Nice to see Princess Bride, Fifth Element and Kung Fu Hustle get some love :)

From things not already mentioned I'd recommend

La Femme Nikita
Leon/The Professional
High Fidelity
Green Mile
Blood Diamond
Lord of War
Ronin
Serenity and the whole Firefly TV Series
22 Bullets (L'immortel)
Resident Evil - I avoided it because I disliked the video game, but the movie is great :)
True Romance
Life of Brian

I still haven't got round to watching The Intouchables or Angel-A yet :(

Lots of really good stuff in here! :] My taste in movies could best be described as "incredibly eclectic" so here you go

Make-you-think movies:
Wisconsin Death Trip - Morbid as FUCK, absolutely fascinating.
Pressure Cooker - Feel-good documentary about high schoolers in a culinary arts program. I cried at the end. :]
The Man From Earth - Philosophy re: eternal life, the movie.
Waking Life - Existentialism, the movie. Bonus points for fascinatingly trippy rotoscope.

WARNING: TRIPPY AS FUCK, WATCH ON DRUGS
Bunraku - "Sin City meets The Fifth Element," according to the nearest film major.
Malice in Wonderland - Alice in Wonderland meets London underworld. With pun-based themes, lol - "stealing my tarts" = "stealing my prostitutes."

Awesome crime drama
The Man From Nowhere - Korean, very violent/gritty.
Brick - I don't even know where to start about how awesome this movie is. A teenage school kid pits himself against a network of drug dealers. Who are also high schoolers. And it's 100% not cheesy at all.

I like so many types of movies. Here are a few favorites.

(I have different humor than most when it comes to movies)
In Bruges (already mentioned but deserves to be repeated)
Running With Scissors
Hesher (love me some Natalie and Joseph Gordon)
The Darjeeling Limited
The Life Aquatic
The Royal Tennenbaums
Across The Universe
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (Heath Ledger died in the middle of filming of this one :icon-cry: )
PONYO! :-D
American History X (artistic and powerful)

I could keep going, but you should watch those first. :p

Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai
Word, I love Jarmusch films. Everything about them is incredible. The way he integrates the music, and especially the cinematography. DEADMAN is one of my all time favorites, and in fact I think I will watch it tonight LOL.

Watched LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL last night. A little slower in the middle than I remembered but still just as awesome. I think the story is great, simple and touching. Reno, Portman, and Oldman give amazing performances.

Love me a good samurai movie. The Zatoichi and Lone Wolf and Cub series both feature epic (and authentic) sword battles, rivers/fountains of blood (you can tell Tarantino was a fan), but at the same time are real films w/ interesting and historically accurate plots, are well acted, directed, filmed, etc.

If anyone hasn't seen it I highly recommend David Lynch's THE STRAIGHT STORY

The Great Escape - IMO the greatest war movie ever made and maybe the best movie period. Too many great actors to name them all.
Hannah and Her Sisters - You might have to have a certain way of thinking to love this one, but for me it's just about perfect.
The Jerk - The greatest stupid movie EVAR, bar none. Steve Martin is a genius.

Any fans of director Robert Altman out there? THE LONG GOODBYE and MCCABE AND MRS. MILLER are def worth watching. TLG is one of my favorite films of all time.

Best "Date" Movie ever

THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS 1992. Fantastic: cast (Daniel Day Lewis, Madeline Stowe, Wes Studi), locations, music, story, and cinematography. Could be the greatest movie ever in that it manages to combine a panty dropping love story w/ some epic yet classy since it's historical violence. Everyone wins!
