And, yes, the model can decide to do the gold show even if the goal isn't reached. But I would assume most of them wouldn't do it unless their goal was at least 75% reached or greater, depending on the asking price.
There are many reasons why a lady would choose to start a gold show well under the stated goal. For example, you will notice that some women have "this is what you're going to see, and here is a little something extra if we reach the entire goal," set the countdown at like $300 and start if they reach $200, and $200 is their actual goal - but some members may be so inspired to see a little something extra that they tip all the way to $300, leaving the model with a generous bonus for a slightly modified show.

I am not sure with how much the ladies would be happy with me sharing, but there has been some discussion on the strategy of starting shows under the set goals.

As far as pricing, I agree that focusing on the total amount a model is going to make is just silly - it doesn't matter that she wants $250 total for a show, because the point is to split that cost between many people. However, depending on the traffic and how many people are contributing towards the show, a high goal may be likely to put me off simply because I don't think the model will ever reach it or reach a percentage she is happy with. That is why you will see members say, "when does the show start?" because even though they know the total countdown is $X, they want to know what the "real" number is where the model will start the show.

It's an interesting strategy, I'm sure. Be satisfied with $X for the show, but offer something extra if $Y is reached. As long as $X is reached, the show will go on as planned. But if $Y is reached or gets really close, something else may be added.

Plus we have to look at the buy in vs total goal. If it's say a $5 buy in for a $300 goal, and she makes it to $200 with everyone only tipping the $5, then she also knows there's 40 people ready and willing. So he/she/they may want to start the show, anyway, because there's 40 people waiting-- and there's no guarantee that those same people, or just as many, will contribute again if the show is cancelled. It all depends, I guess on the tip amounts and how many people have put in for the show.

But I've also heard some members like to play it like Ebay, and wait until the last few seconds to contribute.

The way I like to think about Gold Show on SM is like public shows on MFC.

You rely on a bunch of people to contribute a small amount for the show to start.

Example:
I log into MFC and do a topless/naked countdown for 1000 tokens, then I do a cum show for 3000 tokens, now I have made $200 granted I have not gotten any extra tips/prvts etc.

I log into SM and start a gold show for $300 gold give a 15min countdown for a 7min show and $5 buy in and make my goal. I do one of these shows an hour and nothing else (which is not typical on SM) and I have made half of what the MFC model made.

The difference here is only the guys that throw in $5 get to enjoy my show and more than likely it won't take as long to start since the atmosphere on SM is not to socialize for hours but to fap.

That's actually a great way to think about it, Elay. Thanks. :)

I suppose another difference is the MFC countdown might never be reached, while the gold show has a higher chance of being reached; plus each gold show countdown has a set timer as opposed to MFC countdowns.

And, yes, the lack of freeloaders able to watch is a big plus for the models with their gold shows.

I'm liking what I see on SM, so far, overall. The general cam quality, the nice big windows to watch them in, the gold shows, the ability to limit my own spending (thanks Evvie) per day. Do I think it will completely replace MFC for me? Probably not. I know too many models on MFC that I enjoy hanging out with. But, as something else to look into every now and again, it's a definite good thing. Especially if I'm just in a horny mood and none of my normal private girls are online on MFC. ;)

Why is this SM model letting her "spokesperson" (I think he's Australian?) badmouth other SM models???

She's running a 17 minute Gold show for $1, and her annoying spokesperson dude is asking the room "Why the fuck don't other models on here do this for $1? Because they're all fucking money-hungry whores...that's why!!!"

Dude, that's uncalled for. Don't hate on other models just so you can get guys to chip in on YOUR model's Gold show.

Y'all probably already know who I'm talking about, because this guy has a reputation of being annoying as hell and never shutting up during her Gold show countdown. Guys are always telling him to shut the fuck up because he's annoying. I think he's doing her more harm than good, actually.

And then he's like "I don't care if she says she'll do another $1 show...SHE AIN'T! I'm gonna make sure of that!" Um, wow, dude...wtf?!

 I go into her room just when I'm in the mood to get pissed off. lol Worst carnival barker voice ever! (her voice guy)

Ferrari, right?

I actually love their dynamic in a weird way. I don't agree with everything that he says (like how we're all money hungry whores) but I find him pretty funny and in a lot of situations he lets himself be "the bad guy" while she just giggles and teases. Sort of like good cop bad cop. I guess I don't agree with a lot on how they run their room (as cumshow in public as you can get on SM) but it seems to work for them. I would never run my room that way (hell, I dont even show tits in free for gold) but they've obviously got their nitch and they're exploiting it.

I sometimes am amazed at the dollar gold shows. For what she's doing (EXTREME penetration), she has to get HUNDREDS of guys to join each show, and she doesn't seem to attract very respectful guys (probably because her shows are so cheap). I'm so impressed with her ability to remain happy and bubbly and ON while dealing with these guys. But her thing is more like a circus act, so that's probably why it works for her.

Also, I agree that we shouldn't diss on other girls, but I'll admit there have been a few times that I've let slip something about how I won't do dollar shows because I'm not desperate when people are calling my shows expensive or what not. I probably should have more tact than that, and every time I've said something like that I've felt bad about it. Of course I don't think all dollar shows are for desperate girls...or...maybe I do... I dunno. Everyone has an opinion. Dollar shows (for incredibly explicit content) make me really uncomfortable. I feel like nearly every time I see one going on, nobody is pledging, the girl is getting bitchy at people for not pledging, and it always seems like she doesn't respect/value herself, which really skeeves me out in the sex industry. I KNOW there are exceptions, but, yeah. I'll admit I have a bit of a bias. I shouldn't say anything about it though, because it's rude and tacky and, simply, unneccessary. And I hope nobody hates me now.

tl;dr I like the girl and I think her announcer is funny and even though I would never run my room that way she seems to do alright and we're not competing over the same audience anyway. And sometimes people say things that put down other people without even realizing it because we're all only human.

Yeah, as I kind of alluded to before, it's a very unique room, with limited appeal but apparently within that niche, very successful. I've never seen one of her actual Gold Shows, but I kind of suspect that the guys who go in her room and verbally complain about the Aussie barker are secretly loving it in a twisted way, and the actual shows are secondary. Kind of like how people listen to the blues when they're sad. Notice how no one seems to get banned in that room...the angry arguments and name calling are all part of the shtick. :)

@Veronica:

Yeah, there's a model who will sometimes have the Gold show priced at $1 because she says it allows guys to chip in whatever they can afford. But the problem is that several of them will just tip the $1 and nothing more. And then she gets mad at them and says "Guys, please don't tip me a dollar...it's insulting." Well if it's insulting, set a higher minimum ($3/$4/$5) that you're happy with...lol.

$1 shows tend to attract a lot of the rude, demanding cheapos anyway...who seem to believe that they can pay $1 and then make 100 requests...lol.
