Strange ad on random site

Not sure if this is exactly the right place, so Amber, feel free to move this to wherever.

i followed a random link a few minutes ago and since normally i random browse in firefox i don't see any ads, this time i happened to still be in chrome and so the ads loaded. one in particular caught my eye. a quick screen cap later and by the magic of paint here we are.


apologies for the small size, but that is the original size.
so does the ad look familiar to anyone?

I have seen similar ads myself, one using that very same image. Basically, if an attractive woman (or guy, for that matter, but this applies mostly to females) posts a good enough picture online where it's publicly available; a dating website will steal it for their own use to drive traffic to their site.

For the models, how do you fix it:
1- putting a watermark on the image to make the thieves want the image less
2- hiring a good lawyer and putting a copyright on your image and model name so that if your images are used by unauthorized websites, you have legal recourse and can threaten lawsuits if they don't cease using your image.

Its important to put these stupid ass companies in their place. If you see your photo being used, do what you can to take it down. Its not just limited to dating sites....a girl I used to cam with had her photo used by a high end, big name escort agency in Vegas. She didn't find out about this until her MOTHER was handed a business card with her photo all over it from an employee of said agency while on vacation in Vegas. Her mother called her crying because she thought her daughter was an escort. Last I heard she had to take them to court over it...but yeah, shady shady.

Yeah, it's not hard for your pictures to end up in other places.

It's kinda like this thing I read about.. some company nicked a family's Facebook profile picture of them being all smiley and on vacation (like a resort photographer took it or something) and this company took it, photoshopped a few new faces on their heads and used it as their ads. I vaguely remember an ad being on one of those hauler trucks.

I've had my pictures and artwork jacked and slapped all over the place.

Well I admire your cool demeanour Amber, if some company was using a picture of me to sell their shit without so much as a "may I?" I'd jump down their damn throats.

The other day I saw a friend of mine's (also an mfc model) picture for sale on ebay...8x10 glossy nude, and when I did a search there were a number of sellers, on more than one auction site...99% sure there's no way these guys are paying her or the photographer royalties, or even asking permission. They just saved them off the internet, print them, and make money.

It's totally fucking wrong.

Okay, I download some music, movies, watch some porn on tube sites sometimes and hell I even download games...but what I don't, and would never do, is make MONEY out of other people's shit.

In short I completely agree with SpexyAshleigh, show em just cos they're some skanky internet biz doesn't mean they get to flaunt the law.

I see so many girls posting their tits on twitter with no watermark. This is wonderful for thieves. As Mikeythegeek said, put your name/watermark on the image, always. Some sites may try to retouch to remove it, but in most of the cases they go find an image with no watermark.
