Buddhism is probably the closest to peace - WHEN it's practiced faithfully. If I recall, buddhists don't kill (at all) nor eat meat.
Really though, when have religions EVER been a force for peace? Oh they all talk it, and two armies who believe in the same thing have happily slaughtered one another countless times, often then going on to rape and enslave the losing populace.
Even when religions in the Western world held a lot of political and actual power, there was enough backroom backstabbing, warmongering, poisoning and general nastiness in (among other places) the vatican to make Machiavelli blush. If I recall, one pope borrowed cannons from a Duke or Count, then the pope gave the cannons to his (the pope's) son, and he used them against the noble who had lent them!
This isn't some abstract radical sect - that's the history of the head of the catholic church!
There are Islamic theocracies still in power today, and none of them are very nice places to live as far as I can tell. The Taliban operated under one, Iran has been for the past 30 years...put religious people in power and it NEVER ends well.
