A good friend of mine is a camgirl. She is considering getting a new pc, but she heard that Windows 7 is not compatible with some sites for work, specifically Livejasmin and splitcam. I know splitcam works with 7, but it has been a bit glitchy. Do any of you ladies use Windows 7 and have any advice to offer concerning it's viability for a camgirl? Thanks in advance for any insight you could offer. :)

I've used Windows 7 with Live Jasmin and had no problems, and I use it for Streammates and MFC as well, no problems. I don't do splitcam stuff or anything like that, though. Ever since I started camming I've had a 7 without problem.

ETA: I greatly disliked LiveJasmin.

hi,

Websites compatibility has nothing todo with the used operating system only with the used browsers and the web standards ((x)html , css , javascript etc etc) i don't see a reason why windows 7 would not work the only thing she needs to check is whether the MFC model software runs on windows 7 and even if it doesn't models can stream from their browser (on MFC that is)

You are correct that the O/S shouldn't matter (in theory), but there are many reasons that there are a couple hundred million corporate PCs still running WIN XP. One of the biggest factors: are you running 32 bit or 64 bit WIN7?

If you are running 32 bit, you should have little or no problems.

64 bit is another question entirely. 64 bit browsers can act differently, and 32 bit browsers running on a 64 bit O/S also may act funny (addons can be problematic as well). The biggest problem I had was 64 bit driver availability. There are still a couple that I am waiting for, and I'm limping along with a homebrew that I cobbled together. It would be very important to check all your H/W compatability on the version of WIN7 you plan to get. It would kind of suck if you found out only after you got home with the new PC that your webcam or cam S/W doesn't work.

So, as Belgian pointed out, the O/S should not be a factor in accessing websites, but there are other things in your total "online webcam workings" that should be considered.

She went ahead and bought it, it's 32 bit, and really the only problem we have had is getting her old Sony digital cam to work. Windows 7 will not recognise it. She wants a new cam now, one that allows her to zoom etc easily and does HD. I will look around here for suggestions, but if anyone has any off the top of their head they would be welcome.

Most of us use a Logitech 9000, but she really should join the forum herself to learn this kind of stuff on her own.

Believe me I have tried to get her to join, but you know how the old saying about leading a horse to water goes. She is self-conscious about her English, which really is perfectly fine. I bring it up every once in a while, and in the meantime I come here every once in a while when I have a question(it's also a matter of it being easier for her to ask me to do it than figure it out herself LOL). Thank you for the assistance, and I must say this is a really cool little place.

As an aside, I have a lifecam studio myself, and I HATE this thing. It is almost never in focus. Would never recommend it to anyone. It would honestly be better without auto-focus of any kind. You can defeat it and manually focus, but as soon as you cycle the cam it resumes it's infuriating hunt for something to focus on, and usually ends up focusing on nothing. I'm waiting for someone to develop a quality h264 on-board encoding cam. The few out there are generally poorly received so far, but it's an idea with a lot of promise.

No she is not a studio model, she works from home, but she doesn't know anyone that is any good with computers. She did have an acquaintance that helped her a while back, but that person apparently fell into drug use and is no longer reliable. Her internet has been extremely unreliable, which makes work very difficult and unpredictable for her. When it works it gets great speeds, but it is often down for hours out of the day, and only seems to ever work reliably at night.

I did finally convince her to go with a logotech C910, and she is very happy with it. Someone had told her you need a full-boat camcorder to get good picture, and that is what she has always used, but we could not get the drivers to work properly with windows 7. She wanted to buy a new hd camcorder, but after a lot or convincing she agreed to try an hd webcam and is very happy so far. Hopefully it stays that way. Thanks to everyone for the help. :)
