Philip Seymour Hoffman Dies

Oscar winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman has been found dead in his Manhattan apartment after an apparent overdose.

Hoffman, who was 46, won the Academy Award for Best actor for the 2005 film, Capote.

The American actor was found dead on Sunday afternoon in his West Village Apartment according to law enforcement officials

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is to determine exact cause of death - but law enforcement sources speaking to the New York Post have said that a drug overdose is to blame.

Initial reports claim that the actor was found in the bathroom of 4th floor apartment with a needle in his arm.

The news of the death of Hoffman comes just one day after representatives for the actor issued a statement denying he was dead after an internet hoax claimed the star had passed away on Saturday.

Hoffman has admittedly struggled with drug addiction in the past, and reportedly checked himself into rehab last year for heroin abuse after years of being clean.

Apparently he was filming the second half; I bet they'll be able to work around it. He was great In That role, though.

This really sucks. Such a talent and such a waste. I can't think of many better bit-part actors than Hoffman. Dood had un uncanny ability to take a "small" role and make it something brilliant. I shall be watch Almost Famous, Big Lebowski and Boogie Nights again in the next few days.

I JUST watched State and Main a few times recently, he is SO great in it. UGH.

I feel so bad for his family too, with it all over the news that the needle was in his arm like that.

He had so many great things to be remembered for but hopefully his girlfriend and children can focus on those things and not the way he went.
