Odd petition.

When I left the adult industry, I was shocked by the treatment I received and the stigma I face. People have called me incredibly cruel names just because of my status as a former legal sex worker.

People treat me as if I've committed a horrible crime, but I have never hurt anyone. I am a human being like anyone else, yet there are weeks at a time when I don't leave my house because I don't feel like facing a world that is allowed to discriminate against me.

I doubt she is really treated as if she committed a horrible crime. I have to wonder about the mental state of a white person in America that doesn't leave the house for weeks at a time out of fear of discrimination.

I'm not the only woman who has struggled because of involvement in the sex industry, either. The examples in California alone are countless:

- A woman was fired from her job at Oxnard School District after it was discovered she previously worked in porn during a time when she was deeply in debt. Her firing was perfectly legal.
- A Sacramento family court judge removed custody rights for a mother just because she was a stripper. Her ex-husband went on to kill her 9-year-old son.
- Oakland, CA, passed a law that allows the city to force landlords to evict sex workers, pushing them into homelessness.

Random horror stories, ok. That Oakland law sounds crazy.

Please sign our petition asking California lawmakers to enact legislation prohibiting discrimination against sex workers in accessing publicly funded services and in all judicial proceedings, local laws, housing, education, and employment.

Yeah alright, the petition sucked and was a bit silly but can't argue that they deserve the same rights as everyone else. I shall sign this poorly thought out internet petition that will most likely do nothing to change anything.

A lot of the points she makes can't be solved via legislation either. Passing a law doesn't change the way people think about other people. They could make sex workers a protected class and pass anti-discrimination laws, but you can't change how people think of other people. A social catalyst is what's needed for that.

That Oakland law is straight fucked-up. Talk about government overreach and singling out individuals.

Here's an article she wrote about how she's been treated since leaving porn http://www.dailydot.com/lifestyle/bree-olson-untold-story/

I was threatened to be fired from my job cus they found out I'm a sex worker and they ended up saying "we aren't gonna fire you but if we get a single other person who brings this up, we will."

So, yeah, there's a start.

A lot f employers need to get their heads out of their asses. A lot of them are unable to actually look at a vertical as a whole and identify what skillsets people within the vertical possess and develop. I've met some of the smartest, ambitious and competent girls in the camming / amateur industry and needless to say the skills gained through the industry would look great on a resume if it wasn't that the industry is taboo to begin with.

But then again, when I was in charge of hiring I looked for kitchen and non-violent criminal experience over education, so I'm kind of unorthodox in the hiring process to begin with.....

Why is that industry still taboo in this day and age?

What the fuck? I thought LGBT people tended to be a lot more tolerant of sex work than most straight people.

Being discriminated against yourself doesn't make you a saint. There are Ls who hate Gs, Gs who hate Ls, and there are Ls and Gs who hate Bs who just wanna :h: everyone.

I think I saw her online tonight when I was just a guest. She seemed ok. I tried to ask (without tips...doh) if she was cool but I was ignored (as any good cam model would do with a room of 1000 plus). I wouldn't even know about her (or the character of whorenickles---who I saw but didn't know she was important) if it wasn't for the heads-up here. Maybe she is raising money for a sex change operation that I heard about on the Howard Stern Show ( )but that could be them trying to have something to talk about (I did see the end of the video and I have to say that I wasn't expecting someone to slam her so much--if you can get past that we can still help her).

Anyway, I was thinking, if all of us members that are here put our tokens to it, we could help her out to transition or whatever she wants to do. We can help her out with an Acf tip package! I'm willing to help a person out that is tortured...I just don't know how to go about getting a group effort going so she can live a good life.

I'm not sure what the dude that created that video has against bree, but it seemed bad. I posted it for the Howard Stern stuff but it got mean. Sorry peoples! I wasn't trying to be a dick head...I just thought a group effort to help a person in need would be cool. (Anyone still want to make this a reality)?

She's not seeking a sex change.

Her intentions are good, but petitions do jack shit. If you actually want legislative/policy change, you need to go talk to the people who write the rules and lobby for it. Politicians get petitions all the time. Signing your name is easy. Going to a representative's office to convince them to support your cause is a lot harder, and most of them (at least state and local) respect that.
