Hell if anything is it not a good thing to know that your uncle was wrong and the government isn't some evil cancer loving place?

Yes, it's a good thing to know.

I've just been stressed lately, and extremely irritable and emotional :|
Maybe I'll just stay away from the politics. Bad, bad, bad politics. lol... >.>

I don't think it's necessary to attack anyone ... especially when she never said it was a for sure point. Forums are a place to converse... I don't think we all have to do research before we post something, unless we are posting a brand new topic and trying to argue some huge point. Just chillax I would say... :)

No need to leave Amber, we still want you here. And I don't believe you have to research every single thing before you post anyways. (Ehem... and as if Wikipedia is the best source? You do realize many universities won't accept Wikipedia as a reference for a reason, right?) It's all I'm saying...

Relax... (Just do it... when ya wanna get to it...)

This is where I feel you went horribly wrong. Ignorance is defined as the state of being uninformed. This is a curable ailment. No subject should ever be brought up in a public medium with the justification "well I'm not too sure about this but..." You are sitting in a web browser. Take 2 minutes to open up your favorite search engine, or other online resource, and do a bit of quick reading. Stupidity is defined as the lack of reason or sense. This, while more difficult, is also a curable ailment. Posting supposed facts before verifying, or understanding them falls into this category. Using the sense to know when you do not fully understand something, and then taking the initiative to fix said lack of understanding would be the first step. I did not know anything about Vitamin B17. I took a few moments to go and read such that I could respond to what I THOUGHT was ridiculous. A treatment for cancer would not go completely under the radar for me, so I thought something amiss. I read. I learned. I posted.

arachn1d,

I'm not ignorant.
And I'm not stupid.
I don't trust Wikipedia. Do you realize that when I was bored in high school, I'd go online and edit wiki just for the hell of it?
Anyone with computer knowledge can change shit up on that website to make it sound informative, when it's really not.
I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm not saying that link was mis-informative. I appreciate the information, but I don't appreciate being referred to as "ignorant" or "stupid".
And just so everyone else knows, I'm not trying to start drama. I'm only defending myself.

This is not meant to be offensive. It sounds like you are in a touchy mood and I tend to be a bit blunt with things, so I'm warning you about that beforehand.

I don't read where he called you stupid. He defined it in general terms... which might be implied to be an attack on you. BUT, I just want to be clear, in case this comes up in a future conversation with me.

If I say that you are ignorant of something, I do not mean that you are stupid. I simply mean that you have no knowledge of it. I will admit full ignorance when it comes to various cultures, various points of view, and other things. I do not think that ignorance is necessarily a bad thing. I DO think that willful ignorance on a topic a person is attempting to DEBATE is a bad thing. (which, you weren't attempting to debate it, you were just throwing out there something you had heard to see what other people thought.)

I do not think that stating an opinion, or something like what I said was uncalled for even though I haven't made any research into B17. All I know is that the B vitamins that do exist give energy. Ignorance in passing remarks, as long as we are open to admitting that maybe we don't know what we're talking about, is perfectly reasonable. After all, no one knows everything. Therefore, everyone has something about which they are ignorant.

You are ignorant about some things. I am ignorant about a lot of things. Arachnid is ignorant about some things. And there are some things that everyone in the world are ignorant about. (Who really KNOWS how the world was created? truthfully?)

:h:

One of my pet peeves is when people equate ignorance and stupidity, when they have different meanings.

Generalizations are not pointed comments. I was not directing my comments at anyone. My discussion is simply about forums in general. That said, stop being so fucking sensitive. If I wanted to direct a comment at you, you WOULD KNOW IT. The Earth does not revolve around you.

Would these links help more? These are the two citations listed in the section I quoted:

http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/ ... Section_20 [Nation Cancer Institute]
http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/306/4/201 [New England Journal of Medicine]

Ok Arachnid. Wanna get fucking snippy with me? I'll get snippy back.
YOU are the fucking ignorant one. I even -said- after I made the first post about B-17 that I wasn't -SURE- and not to -QUOTE- me on it because it was something someone in my family had told me. I tend to believe my family even if they are misinformed.
By the way, I'm not going to any of those links because I really don't care to, so it doesn't really make any sense to keep posting them.
And, YES, I AM FUCKING SENSITIVE. I HAVE GOOD REASONS TO BE SENSITIVE AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE. I'M VERY IRRITATED WITH MY LIFE RIGHT NOW. SO I'M AT THE END OF MY ROPE AT THE MOMENT. THANK YOU FOR PUSHING IT PAST THAT POINT!

No, it's not. There are a myriad of resources available to undo ignorance regarding a subject.

Let's rehash, shall we?

There already IS a cure for cancer. The government made it illegal in the US.

I SHOULD SAY... I've heard that there is.
One of my uncles were talking about it... something about Vitamin B-17 being a cure for cancer.

Nowhere in these posts which you mention, do you say that you are not sure or that you should not be quoted on it.

I tend to believe my family even if they are misinformed.

This statement bewilders me... It contradicts the previous argument.

Are you suggesting that I take the time to become completely informed on a subject before I comment on it?

Oh dear, I'd better just shut up completely.

Fuck that... I will not be quiet just because I don't know. Yes, I will admit when I misspeak. Yes, I will make an effort to research a topic if I plan on actually debating my side of it. But no, I will not keep quiet just because I may not know parts of what I'm talking about. I will not refrain from saying that I heard something somewhere. I WILL say "I heard somewhere that..." or "I'm not sure, but I think...."

I have a mind. Capable of coming to reasonable conclusions. No, my mind isn't perfect. That doesn't mean I will refrain from voicing those conclusions.

Back to the topic at hand:

PETA is clearly run by insane people. There is probably no possibility of reasoning with them. That is not to say that I disagree with there cutest vegetarian contest on those grounds. While I may have never been a fan of beauty contests, if we're judging this thing based on the possibility that it will bring more members...

They're doing it right.

And that's a scary scary thought.

I'm done talking to you. I can only hope and pray that Amber bans me off the site.

Didn't we just do this a few weeks ago? Can't we all get along damn it?

Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

Especially if you belong in the kitchen and for some reason you neglected your duties in order to post in this thread.

Pic very related.

To bring things sort of back on topic...

NaughtyAmber... good luck to you on that contest. I can't support things any other way because I'm so deeply opposed to the tactics that PETA employs to make their points (see my post earlier in the thread). Their attention whoring actually HURTS their cause far more than helps it.

Once again, they have legitimate goals. But they get overshadowed by how they promote their agenda.

As for the rest of the BS in this thread... please, just stop. We don't need anymore fucking drama around here. Seriously.
