Hi,

A friend sold content and used paypal as the transaction method, and of course, the client performed a chargeback.
I've read up on chargebacks and how unfriendly paypal is to adult work as it against their TOS, and I'm afraid there is nothing they can do from my understanding, but I'd love to hear second opinions.
Do they have any recourse?
Is it disputable or since they used it against paypals TOS, they risk losing their paypal account if done so and will also most likely lose the dispute because of the nature of the transaction, even though technically a chargeback is between the clients creditcard/bank and the seller?

Unfortunately, they weren't aware of chargebacks and all the risks and etc. and trusted the other person.
Please keep this civil and not condescending.
I'm sure this will be a valuable lesson to them already.

Thank you

Let it go and ask her to please never exchange content for PayPal funds again. If she had not provided content there may have been a tiny chance of getting it reversed but unlikely unless the account is set up as a business account and not a personal account and even then trying to explain it would be difficult.

Yeah, I figured as much, just wanted to have second opinions, especially from people within the field. I'll let them know of the bad news. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

No chance of getting it reversed. Happened to me, and then paypal banned me from having an account with them and using it for selling adult content... 🙄
If I understood correctly, you traded content and used paypal for the transaction and the client performed a chargeback. Did you try to dispute it and that is why paypal banned you by finding out the nature of the transaction? I'm only asking since I am wondering since it is already impossible to really dispute or win, that if they just accept the loss, they at least won't lose their paypal account.

To beat a chargeback claim you need a crap ton of evidence. You have to be able to prove that it was the account owner that made the transaction, so unless you have a video of them making the transaction its basically not getting reversed. When you add into that, that you are asking paypal to investigate your account that you were using in ways they strictly forbid in their TOS you are essentially just emailing them saying "please ban my account".

Chargeback scams are a part of all online business, to the same effect that shoplifting is in brick and mortar businesses, it sucks but it's going to happen at some point. The only thing you can really do to prevent it is use payment methods that dont allow for charge backs like crypto or use 3rd parties that offer chargeback protection (you also need to be operating within their TOS to benefit from the chargeback protection.)

Chalk it up to a lesson learned, ban the member and move on would be my advice.

The irony is that paypal is one of the accepted forms of payment for token puchases on Chaturbate.

Yeah, and I remember when I couldn’t even use Payoneer to buy tokens on Chaturbate to tip my friend. Payoneer used to be very popular back then, and a lot of us used it and had the little blue debit card. I remember being surprised when a CB rep told me over the phone that I couldn’t buy tokens with a Payoneer card.
