I've mentioned this show a few times already but figure it deserves its own thread. I just finished watching the first season and I need season two now, dammit. It's so poopin' good (if you haven't seen it yet, it's on Netflix and you should totally watch it, yo).

*HERE BE SPOILERS*

Stray Observations!

- That ending I didn't think Piper had it in her. Mind you, up until the episode where it was finally revealed why Pennsatucky was in there, I didn't think she was dangerous either. For Piper's sake, I hope she's not dead. As flawed a person as Piper is, I kinda wanna see her get out of prison and get her life back on track. If Pennsatucky's dead, that won't be happening any time soon. But then if she's not dead, she might try to kill Piper again. Dramaz!

- I still can't make my mind up whether I want Piper to wind up with Larry or Vause. Larry's the safe option, but even though he acted like a bit of a tit on the radio show - knowingly and willingly putting Piper at risk because he was butt-hurt - I still kinda like him. And he has every reason to be butt-hurt, I guess. It took me a while to warm to Vause, but they did a good job of fleshing out her character. She's not just some reckless criminal who'll sell out the people she loves so long as it benefits her (though she is that too), she's also a real person with real feelings and Piper was kind of a dick for leaving her the way she did and then using her in prison.

- I loved the whole Daya/Bennett storyline. At first, it was just cute, and then the pregnancy made it interesting, and then the deal with Pornstache made it really interesting. I dug how it tied into the Pornstache/Red rivalry too. Pornstache and Red are maybe my two favourite characters in the show. Maybe. There's so many. I thought Pornstache was just gonna be there for comic relief at first, but he's been central to some big scenes and storylines - being responsible for Tricia's overdose and then faking her suicide, his deal with Red, and then the stuff with Daya that'll hopefully carry over to season two. Red's just a bad-ass and I hope she gets her kitchen back.

- What a dick Healy is, huh? He went from being warm and fuzzy and completely reasonable (if slightly pervy) to villainous cunt over the course of about six episodes. Surely he gets fired in season two. In fact, by the end of the first season, the only person running the prison that wasn't a complete dick was Caputo.

- I hope Claudette gets out and lives happily ever with Jean-Baptiste.

- I hope Sophia's son accepts her as a woman.

- I hope Yoga Jones finds closure.

- Morello is just indescribably lovely and I hope she gets a bigger role in season two.

- Crazy Eyes and Taystee are the tits.

- The soundtrack was, similarly, the tits.

The scene where Suzanne asked Piper, "why does everyone call me Crazy Eyes?" kind of broke my blackened little heart. She's such a good actor. I want to see MORE OF HERRRR~~~

I loved the season, and it broke my heart too when Susanne asked why do people call her Crazy Eyes, and even more when they showed her listening to the radio show. You can tell she genuinely has a good heart. Another moment that sucked, but I liked, was when Tastee and her bff had their moment.

I'm sad that miss Claudete decided to go off on the awkward officer. She had a lot of potential to be the mom role, just like Red is.

- I don't think Piper deserves either people tbh. Because she used Vause to live an exciting life, and she used Larry to have the painted dream.

- Daya is my favorite.
- I hope Healy is gone, and that Daya/Bennett work out.. they probably won't but I hope so because they look so cute together.

I actually decided to watch this because I saw a few people mentioning it around here and I'm so glad I did, it was awesome. It was a little hard for me to suspend disbelief in some areas (are there NO cameras in this place?), but the entertainment factor of it was great.

I don't want Piper to be with either of them. It's not that I think she doesn't "deserve" them, they're all flawed people to be honest. I think Larry would be better off without Piper, and Piper would be better off without Alex, but that's not to say any of them are bad. Mostly I just think Piper really needs to learn to be single for a while and a healthy relationship can't really continue with these people because of previous betrayals.

I really like a lot of the characters. Nicky and Taystee might be my favorites, but I'm always happy to see Morello or Bennett pop up because they're such good eyecandy.

Although I enjoy Taystee's presence in the show, I'd really like her to get out and stay out. I hope that the GED program will help her out. I'm not sure if she graduated high school, but if she did then perhaps work on an Associate's in Criminal Justice.

I hope Daya miscarries. I really like Daya and Bennett, but I want Bennett to be able to be a father to his child, and that can't happen like this. He can't be known as the father, and people will find out. Plus I'd like to see some more emotion from Daya.

I want Morello to stop being in denial and accept it's done with her fiance. I like her and Nicky together, so them getting back together would be a bonus.

THIS! I kinda wanted to cry with her when that happened. She's a really good, smart person. I also liked the scene when they were in the bathroom cleaning the floor together and she explained to Piper why she liked her but that she realized that Piper is just a mean person.

I really do like Tastee too, she's really funny. I also do like the whole Daya and Bennett thing. I'm not really sure what I want to happen with them. Gah! I can't wait for season 2!!!

- I don't really want Piper to end up with either of them. Larry annoys me and while I think Piper and Alex are super cute together when they're good, they seem to have this big issue with completely fucking each other over and I don't think that leads to a healthy relationship... I'm a little in love with Alex though and would not object to some hot lady lovin'. I actually kind of ship her and Nicky, a little xD Piper needs to sort out her crazy shit before worrying about a relationship IMO...
IDK if you guys know this but this show is actually based on a true story, a memoir written of the same name, go look it up! In real life, Piper ends up with Larry(I haven't read it yet but my personal tumblr people are all in love with this show and dissect every possible aspect of it so I heard this through there xD), but I'm hoping they will switch it up and change things for the show.

I, too, hope that Crazy Christian Methhead is not dead (even though that would be nice in a way because she's SO horrible) however I'm sure they wouldn't mind extending her sentence since the show has gone so well!

I've actually heard so many stories about people going in to prison for crimes that are really small potatoes no big deal stuff, and non-violent, and then GOING into prison puts them in a situations like the one in the show where they're pushed to do horrible things and end up being violent criminals, doing things they probably NEVER would have done on "the outside". Sucks.

I liked her but she was definitely self involved and pretentious. Apparently she's based on a real person and the series is (at least partly) based on her memoirs, so I'm guessing some (all?) her character traits are based on the book. I kinda like that the protagonist is flawed. It makes it easier to relate to them, if not outright root for them.

There really isn't a single character that I dislike on the show, but Pennsatucky and Nicky are my favorites too.
Am I the only one who thinks Pennsatucky is really gorgeous? Even when they meth her out for the show, she's still pretty cute if you ignore her mouth area. :lol:

I hope OITNB doesn't go down the same route as Weeds did. I really liked Weeds the first couple seasons and then it got ridiculous. I just don't want them to write OITNB nto a corner like they did with Weeds cause it's so damn good

I'm not very fond of Piper either. Much like the character of Kevin Arnold on The Wonder Years. I loved the show but the character was kind of a jerk especially in later seasons. Piper's boyfriend Larry comes across as pretty douchey too.

My favorite is Lorna (Yael Stone) as I just love her look and accent on the show! I also like Nicky and I really like Kate Mugrew as Red.

I like Piper a lot-- not as a person, just as a character. Kind of for the same reason I love Walter on Breaking Bad. She's complex. She's not really a good person or a bad person-- she's just a person. Sometimes she's selfish and mean, but sometimes she's selfless and caring. In some ways she's very smart, and in others she's incredibly naive. She'll try to get along with someone, but then beat them half to death when they come for her.

Larry's the same. I keep finding myself being mad at him for being an insensitive self-involved crybb (like when he acts like Piper's prison sentence is HIS story and HIS journey and ruining HIS life) but when you think about it, we're all that way. The characters on the show are all over-the top but there's a true underlying realness about human nature in all of them.

I cried so much about Tricia. :crybaby:

I just finished binge watching over the weekend, another great series from Showtime. My Netflix streaming ended today so I was getting a bit desperate to finish it.

I really like Piper's character, and Taylor Schilling is so bloody gorgeous that I can't not like her, same reason I tip pretty cam girls
I am rooting for Piper to get together with Larry cause despite Vaus charm at the end of the day she is lying manipulative, heroin dealer and honestly belongs in jail more than most of the people.
Although I hope season 2 does have some good lesbian sex scene between the two

But what makes this series really good isn't the main character who while are interested, ain't that special. It is everybody else. The bonding between the nun and Sophia. I know that you can't go around shooting kids to protect your pot crop, but geez, the Yoga teacher is is pretty great human being and I am scratching my head, why society is served by her being jail. It was an immensely tragic accident. Maya and Bennett a bit cliche but still fun to watch. I watched a several episodes of Oz but I really like Orange much better, waiting for season 2.

In these sorts of dramas I always root for things to get as fucked up as possible. Which means I'm rooting for Piper crippling church girl (like crazy face transplant damage), getting a life sentence, and becoming just like the mean old-timers everyone's afraid of.

Also, Crazy Eyes becoming a guard and making her life a living hell forever.

I like it!

I like that all of the nudity has purpose and furthers the story somehow, even in elementary ways.

A lot of shows randomly throw in sex or nudity in ways that don't even make sense just for funsies.
I felt pretty comfortable that all of the nudity either makes a joke, shows the realism of prison (as in shower scenes, etc), is an integral part of the plot, or builds on someone's character.
