I was mixing cake batter when the handle came off of my whisk, which I took to mean my cake needed no more mixing. Can anyone recommend a nice brand that will not let me down?

not brand per se, but don't buy the grocery or walmart versions. Get commercial duty, all stainless. They are readily available or on the net if you have no place close that sells them. [under restaurant supply] Mine range from a small 6" for a single egg, to an 18 " for soups and gravy in a large kettle.... mine have seen hard use and dishwasher for at least 10 years on most.

I had several break like that over the years, the handle once and individual wires on other occasions.

The one I have now, I've had for over ten years. I grabbed it in a variety store...lol...like Pay-Less. But I found it in a section of kitchen gadgets for handicapped people--the handle is "sure-grip" and it's just built a lot sturdier than most whisks.

I must be weird....I just use forks. :shifty: They seem to work well enough for me.
 Can you whip cream with forks? lol Or whip egg whites so they stand in peaks?

No, but I also don't cook. That and I have no clue why you would whip egg whites to begin with. Did they do something wrong?

Hrm... I can think of a reason... and now I want a nice lemon meringue pie. Mmmmmm.
lol Exactly what I had in mind. Mmmmmm too! Also, for fluffy waffles, beat the egg whites first then fold them into the rest of the batter. :)
