Modeling and a Future Career?

Hello everyone! I have a question and you were all so lovely last time that I want to ask and muse with you all again.

So far, I do show my face when I cam and I'm okay with potentially being found out as I don't have any shame in doing this, I'm happy and I feel confident in my body. It's also helping me with some sexual based trauma alongside of providing for me right now when I was in a bad situation. Of course, I'd love to keep doing this for a long time, I have no plans to stop so far but I was curious about what it would do later on down the road too.

I've thought about this before and never really thought it'd be an issue frankly, I'm an artist and illustrator which is what I got my degree in even and my goals for the future are really to work freelance or even start my own business. I already have a small business with Etsy that I'm working on but let's just say, I dunno, I pitch an animated show for kids and teenagers for Netflix or something; could camming ruin that? I'm okay with staying independent and start my own animation studio even if needed but I'm curious about this.

I see a lot of people asking about if camming could ruin their career and it always seems to be "it depends" which is fair but most of the time it's about nursing or social work but nothing in this area. Any thoughts? It's not something I'm too worried about if I'm found out as free lance tends to be based on skill anyway but I dunno, I'm curious!

If people are going to discriminate against you for doing something you love that makes you money then they're assholes. I'm in the same boat in that I want to make a career out of this and I have no plans to stop. If I'm ever outed there's basically zero consequences for me, everyone I actually care about already knows and it's not like I'm secretly a catholic school teacher or a conservative pundit in my vanilla life. If I lose out on opportunities because of being a sex worker then they probably aren't really things I wanted anyway. I'm kind of a stickler for free expression and letting people do whatever the fuck they want as long as it's not hurting anyone else.

What we do harms no one, so anyone trying to tell us otherwise is doing the actual harm. Fuck em.

I'm no expert and just some girl on the internet, but I feel like the stigma around Sexwork will slowly fade away with the rise of younger, more progressive generations. Saying that might seem off for some people, but I really do think so (I mean just look at all the girls wanting to be strippers after following like 3 on Instagram) I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially with your artistic intrigue. I feel in most liberal arts industries/programs nobody really gives a fuck, and the focus is more on how well you actually preform at your given role. Which is how I think it should be lol. I mean shit, if I ever get found out, I'm using it to launch my acting career
But yeah. I think the best mentality, now that you're already here, is to own it.

Also- who the hell thinks SW is hurting people? Sex is a huge part of the human experience, and I'm sorry you missed out on so much if you think otherwise.

As someone with too many years of experience with traditional work (I say "too many" because I worked way too long at something I hated), I can tell you that your camming experience (and anything involving nudity) WILL be held against you in certain corporate cultures and industries, because despite how liberal we think we are, all you have to do is look at the big deal around 'nip slips' and the ridiculous censoring of implied nudity on social media apps like IG to know that we are far from being accepting of sex work (despite the efforts of so many). For you to not consider how this could affect your future would be naive and I commend you for actually thinking about it.

When it comes to doing anything with/for/around children, you will be held to a very strict (albeit HYPOCRITICAL) standard. HOWEVER, all this being said.......in my life experience I have learned that nothing comes close to doing something you absolutely love, and that it's never worth betraying yourself for a salary in a company or an industry that already has those types of prejudices. I decided long ago I never want to work for anyone that will hold my nude modeling/camming against me. It's soul draining to work at something you hate or in an environment you know you aren't fully accepted.

This is very well put; I do agree there's a weird double standard when it comes to sex work being almost idolized and demonized at the same time. I thought about it for a long time and ultimately I'm okay with what I'm doing because I DO enjoy it and I do everything in my power to engage with only consenting adults and never cross my own boundaries or the viewers/tippers.

When it comes to my art career I do plan to stay freelance I'm fairly young still so any big plans to branch out into series could still remain independent and I'd be okay with that. I'd much rather be my own boss regardless of what it is. I've always wanted to be that way.

All of the responses on here have made me feel rather reassured in some way. I don't plan to work for anyone else unless things go really wrong. But right now I'm fairly certain this and my other freelance ventures will keep me happy in my career.

My main working experiences stem from traditional fields such as consulting and financial services. In those industries and the companies I have worked at, your camming experience would 100% be held against you unfortunately. I agree with @Gaia_Mommy that future generations will not stigmatise the career choices people make as much.

This^^^^^^ If you get involved in a kids/teens show down the road, a majority of the parents as well as the TV execs are going to be millennials and gen z by that point. The OnlyFans generation tbh. That's not to say someone won't try to cancel you at some point, but if you own your history unapologetically, you'll have way more people coming to your defense in my opinion.
Also good luck on all your endeavors! I think artists are so fucking cool.

For me, I was at a stage in my life where it wasn't a concern.

I had worked independently for years and own my own business.

The entire thing was based on a fun little dare from a very dear friend. She told me that I should join porn. I told her, I'm too old, past my prime, etc. She said nonsense and to go for it. So at first I did a few videos. But I like interacting with people so camming seemed to be the way to go. It has turned out to be very sex positive for me. My clients (and their reviews) have given me a TON of confidence in all different areas. Much more than when I got into it.

While I won't say that all experiences are like this (some are just fun), I have been really proud of what I do when I have helped out people. What I mean by that is one time I did a show for a client who was dying of cancer and was thanked for making a really bad time a little brighter. I have also been a regular for someone who is transitioning and have been told that when she started it was during the beginning of covid and that she still wasn't sure about going out into the real world not knowing how she would be treated by cis gender males and that she was glad that she found me because I make her feel really confident and comfortable. I was also told by a client that I was the first person that he got off with since losing his husband who was a cop killed in the line of duty.

All of those experiences have made me proud of what I do.

My clients have given me confidence and I have also been glad to have helped them. So in that respect it is a total win/win.

I also kind of x'd myself out of the "straight world" when I began getting heavily tattooed years ago. My point being here is that I always knew that I was my own person and doing my own thing. So I never feared this kind of thing hurting a future career. If anything, I had never thought about it before and lacked confidence at first, but have gained so much more.

Also, I continue to do other freelance projects as well . As a result of that I have been a contributor to a book that will come out next year sometime that involves a really big true crime case. I have already given an interview on that and will be featured in a documentary when the book is released. As a result of that, I have been talking book deals with several people and have been hired on by a company that the author of the author of the said book is creating. Everyone involved knows I have done some porn related stuff.

Granted, not everyone has lived the same kind of lifestyle that I have and are much younger than I am. However, because of the lifestyle that I lived I always knew that the professional corporate world wasn't for me years ago. So, I would say to be aware of what you are doing and think of where you eventually want to be and then ask yourself if camming could hurt a future career move.

This sounds extremely interesting. There are a lot of us here (at this forum) who are big into true crime. You probably can't say much, but damn this sounds very fascinating.

Todd Grande is great!! He covers a lot of narcissism which is something Im really interested in- And Dr. Ramani is an amazing Clinical psychologist as well. Her videos are usually 20+ minutes and she specializes in narcissism and socio/psychopaths/ASPD.
She also offers free therapy/healing guides for people who have been in abusive relationships with these people
