I just wanted to ask a few questions about model swag/merch! Get some feedback and what not...

Models:

~ Do you sell "swag" such as pins, t shirts, posters, photo prints, etc?
~ Do you sell if out right or just use it as a raffle prize or exclusive fanclub gift?
~ Does it sell well/regularly?
~ Has it recouped its own cost, or was it a poor investment?

Members:
~ Is this something you'd actually like to buy/win from your favourite model?
~ What sort of "swag" appeals to you most? Tshirts, hats, pins, shot glasses etc. Im going to guess something that wouldnt be obvious to the general public but correct me if Im wrong?

Any other feedback is really appreciated!

I have never been the under wear buying type fan...I dunno just not for me (my opinion that's all).

The pins and shirts could be cool if they were retro, hipster, douche baggy which is kind of what I like. Like some play on old President's like "Nixon tipped me!" "Kiss me, Clinton touched my bum!" "George W. tried invading me, so I banned him" and then ur cammodel name...I dunno?
Old retro breakfast cereals on a tee shirts, like Lucky Charms with the Leprechaun doing something cheeky. The selling point being your cam model name? Pins that have silly sayings like " Boobies are rainbows and nipples are the pot of gold!" then maybe your own logo if you got one? Having you own logo I know can be a big pain in the ass to make but there are ppl out there who have them done, and they look cool.

For me I like the amazon wishlist, for my buddy DylanDoll on SM. (she's like a little sister)
I bought her a few things that she really wanted from a kimono to a muffin shaped egg timer.
She really enjoyed it and I didn't buy her toys or cameras but fun little things, that she wanted it was like a little Xmas for her.

When I asked my room about this last year, they weren't so keen on the idea of pins, tshirts, etc., because they didn't want to advertise to the world that they frequented cam sites, but they liked calendars, mousepads, posters and coffee mugs.

Yup your right, I can see that they wouldn't want that getting out.
But, you could have some fun with it.
Maybe have a unique logo or statement that would only be recognizable to other members?
If you don't have to put MFC or cammodel on it you could. I mean the odds of being "outted" would probably be right there with actually meeting your fav. cam model out in the street ? Maybe even lower ?

And the fun the models could have with it could be great!
Have a contest for a best pics taken with tee-shirt or gear of the cammodel?
You can have a photo bomb of a cam model tee-shirt and the member shaking hands with a celebrity?
Shaking hands with a political figure wearing a Jessi shirt or who ever.
Doing shots with priest from an AmberCutie shot glass?

Have a year long contest who ever comes up with best shot gets...I dunno 2 weeks of Tweets for free or some videos or a special picture book I dunno.
Do a best nature, celebrity, political, or even Photoshopped pic with whatever, tee shirt, pin, or other product.
Just lay out some rules like "Creativity Counts Members: A picture of your junk wrapped with my shirt is only interesting the first 1000 times I saw it! ".

Maybe this already done, I didn't look it up to see if this old news...if it is please ignore.

Oppps SORRY didn't mean to off track the thread (waves at Jess) my bad.

My specific idea was "WWJDD" pins. But I guess its kind of dumb :handgestures-salute:

That's not dumb at all...why would u say that?
My question might be dumb...what does WWJDD stand for?

And see that would be great for ppl who want anonymity, who the hell is going to know what WWJDD means unless they are on the "in" with your gear?
I mean it could be funny to have a group of WWJDD wearing ppl, wandering around :)

Kind of like an inside code that only members would know..hell I would buy one, if the price was right and if I knew what it meant LOL

OHHHH okay Thanks everybody!
Sorry I didn't catch the "What would J*** D*** do".

See I already have some funny pictures in my head from something like that.

Imagine one day your having a coffee and scanning through your paper or actually reading a newspaper. And you see some P.R. shot between business guys in some deal/merger/buyout and you look at their shaking hands and on the one cuff instead of a sterling cufflink is a "WWJJD" pin is hanging there.

A member has his arm around a politician and places a WWJDD button on this chest or say someone like Pete Townsend or Mick Jagger gets photo bombed with a fan and a button.

Me standing in a Boy Scout of America's out fit and with my sash covered in WWJDD pins of instead of actual merit badges :) in the other hand a bottle of cheap wine...fly open, maybe passed out...u know the ridiculous! NOW that could win a pic to keep tucked away!

Or have the other models jump into the fray with their badges and have pics of members in sash's with their cammodel pins all over them.
The possibility of some pretty, funny, amazing, outrageous, surreal shots are there.

I have no hard data on button sales or any other forms of revenue streams from this site (nor am I asking) but it might be something to test out.

Where do you get these fool hardy ideas? It obviously stands for "Why would Jesus do dat?"
Or maybe "Willy Wonka's jolly donkey dick."
Perhaps "White women just don't dance."
"World's worst justifiable daddy discipline?"
"Wacky world justice done dastardly?"

Oh Gawd, I'm rolling!

Schwaggy swag swag! I have mucho input, probably too much so I'll try to keep it brief.
I prefer them to be prizes, aside from my comic, mostly because the out the door token price needed for me to make anything is IMO kind of crazy, especially for buttons and pens. Mugs actually aren't too bad.
I go through waves with swag selling but for the most part, they don't sell much. All my swag is in a "swag" gallery on my profile, except the pens I think is ya wanna look.
Funny I actually had a WWJJD button a couple years ago... and may still in my swag box actually, I'm not sure. Super simple and super vague, which is perfect. I stopped putting my name, or anything about MFC on any items that feature me a long time ago, and try pretty hard to keep it non-nude so that a shirt for example, isn't more than a pinup shirt with some unkown "SLF" thing on it.
Mugs, pens and mousepads are the most desirable from what I've experienced.

But yeah, they are much better prizes IMO.

Where do you get swag made?

A while back I read in a forum post that some MFC models use cafepress.com to have merchandise made.

I've bought a few photo pens from a store called Ritz Camera, and I think they were $5.99 each. You buy them, and then when you get home, you just unscrew the top of the pen so that you can insert a wallet photo of yourself, and then screw it back together.

I've bought photo keychains before from a place called The Picture People (a portrait studio for kids), and the keychains were like $1.99 each, I think. Also, at around Christmas time, when they have an area of the mall set up for photos with Santa, they also sell photo gifts like photo keychains, photo snow globes, and photo scrapbooks.

I remember awhile back, TJHeart had some white t-shirts that simply said "I (heart) TJ" and she was giving them out to any member that made a purchase off her wishlist, no matter the price of the item.

But she doesn't seem to do it anymore so maybe it didn't really drive sales

This is something I may want to do in the future as well. I've been toying with the idea of an illustrated camgirl calendar, or special illustrated 'gig posters' for g/g shows and stuff, but most of my ideas are collaborative in nature.

From my experience, things like t-shirts can be kind of expensive. If you want something that's actually quality made, I have to say Cafepress is a let down if you don't know what you're doing in terms of uploading the images and all that. (If you upload a raster image as compared to a vector image, you tend to get very different results.) Posters could actually sell well, possibly. And calendars, but those are time-sensitive and need to be planed out ahead of time. And pins are relatively cheap, especially if you decide to go and buy your own pin maker. We bought one for my office for about $250, had enough to make over 500 pins.

One thing you could try is rolling out a few different designs, and have people tip to 'preorder'. Which ever one they tip for would be a vote cast, and whichever wins goes into production.

I made this thread like a year ago and the general consensus was that they didn't want much relating to MFC or models in general so.. I thought about offering a "I Survived The Robocopter" TShirt for people who would tip for my .. Robocopter. It's a favorite thing of my regular's, but I haven't done it in over a year.

I know that I may have stuck my nose in this thread to often. When a person does "business" and product so long, it just gets in the DNA.
This article came across my desk and I thought "What the hell, see what ppl think?"
Maybe you have seen this already and maybe its not for North American markets but...you never know? Maybe another possible revenue stream?
Just throwing it out there to see what you think of it?

Japanese women put corporate logos on their legs and get paid for it
All’s fair in love and advertising. The body is a giant marketing canvas. Right? Isn’t that how those old clichés go?

Marketing firm Absolute Territory PR is currently making a killing by renting out the legs of comely young Japanese women to sell their clients’ products.

Parents will be pleased to know their daughters are placing corporate stickers on their thighs in the space between knee-high socks and the hemline of their mini-skirts.
This area of exposed flesh is called "absolute territory" in Japan and is a rough translation of the phrase “zettai ryouiki koukoku”.
