Britain passed the Digital Economy Act, which required age id for all adult website a year ago
This started getting discussed a year ago. It has only just been agreed that it will happen (I think a few months ago) and it is still not in place yet. So this isn't a good example of things not altering anything, as nothing has happened yet. They are discussing how they will manage it but as far as I am aware they still haven't worked that one out. I doubt it will come into place until 2019 at least, there are so many other laws and changes which have already been delayed until then. This is slightly different though as it's supposed to prevent children from accidentally accessing pornography, rather than trying to prevent porn viewing or prostitution. It'll be interesting what it does to the porn world though. In all fairness I think as far as camming goes it won't necessarily be negative. Viewers will find a way to access their porn, we'll grumble but people will watch. Just as people would pay if there weren't a way to view it for free. It might even convert more guests/basics as people will get used to not going completely incognito, one major excuse I hear is that people don't want anyone "finding out". Well, as much as it's supposed to be private, they're still taking a risk already. Might as well take a good risk and get the full experience.
I think the FOSTA is such a sad way to approach sex trafficking laws, especially as it seems to come from fear rather than evidence of this sort of complete ban working to reduce sex trafficking. Prostitution is a service which may stop being offered one day, perhaps in a world where young women no longer grow up feeling objectified, with men growing up believing it's acceptable to purchase women's bodies, a world where men and women have the same earning opportunities, and rape and abuse statistics fall down to a low, perhaps in a world where we no longer turn sex into a sensationalist and desirable taboo, but simply an acceptable act of pleasure between two people. Maybe. Maybe then sex will no longer be a commodity that people will want to buy or sell. Until then everything about western culture sensationalises sex in a way that it's just asking to be bought and sold.
Creating a ban only criminalises those who are legitimately selling, making it harder for those who have been trafficked to access services which could help them, and putting even consenting escorts into dangerous situations where they cannot access help. If you create legal brothels which are carefully monitored and basically put help in place for those selling sex, it makes it much easier for those wishing to buy sex to access legitimate workers. If you put a straight up ban and make everything underground, how are people to know if the person they go to see has been trafficked or is underage? I know that people love to believe it will stop happening, but that's so naive.
What always amazes me about the USA is that it has such a huge porn industry yet a completely backwards view about selling sex. Why is it acceptable to have sex for money when it's being recorded? Could trafficking and abuse not happen in porn? And why are certain people in Nevada allowed legal brothels? The legal brothels seem to work fine, so why can more not be made so that workers can be safe? Why continue creating a system where those who choose to sell sex for whatever reason are prosecuted? Surely if the idea were to end sex trafficking you would create laws to stop criminalising prostitutes so that if they are coming to harm or have been brought into the business for the wrong reasons they can gain support.
As for date raffles, someone asked why do models offer them? Money and an opportunity to offer something different I guess. I cannot speak for anyone else, but I would quite like the opportunity to meet some regulars, so that may well be a part of it. You generally know that whoever wins will probably have supported you a lot, so chances are it'd be a fun experience. I think it can also build the community aspect. Part of being a camgirl is being a "real" fantasy girl, so giving people the opportunity to meet up probably makes the whole community experience with the model seem more real for the camgirl and members.
It would be sad if they considered date raffles to be against the new rules as I've always thought non sex meet ups are a nice idea, and raffles are always super fun. I guess the main problem is that prostitution being illegal in the US, lots of prostitutes also specify no sex. Even in the UK because advertising sex is illegal you get careful writing in adverts.
