Much to my bewilderment, MFC has been promoting itself as FREE for some time now. This approach is so counter to the financial interests of most models that I do not understand MFC's thinking or the lack of outrage by models. Their newest ad is completely insane. In these challenging economic times, when EVERY tipper is precious, MFC produces a video that says essentially if you pay for adult chat you are a fool! Why do they want to attract the freeloader demographic? I tip,so why do they want to insult ME?
Hope I posted this link correctly so you all can take a look.

It's the law of numbers. Sure they lure people in with "free" but they know that a good portion of newcomers are going to eventually buy tokens for some sort of show, video, raffle, etc.

Honestly, their marketing isn't alarming, it's smart. It's the biggest thing they have that sets them aside from the other camsites, which makes it remain a very HIGH traffic site. (Which is good for models.)

The chat is free.

The shows/nudity are not.

And of course, tipping is seen as appreciation of the model.

My fault, I was a little too generic in using the word "chat". The video/ad actually starts with the words "Hi I am Derrek and I created this video to show you why you should never pay for live sex again..."

Well in that case it's a misleading ad. Doesn't the MFC rules state no public shows? Even though it's not enforced.

Very alarming indeed! How did models ever make a living without that insightful tardedness.

And here Ladies & Gentleman we have an example of the soaring intellect that is, Bocefish.

Your own logic is counterintuitive to the point you were trying to make.

Advertising should alarm models?

First, I think the word you're looking for is contrary NOT counterintuitive.

YES, I think that if a model works, to MAKE MONEY, on a site that has as a major thrust of its advertising the idea that "...you should never pay for live sex again..." it's a problem.

While I understand the logic of bring in as many people as possible, and surely some will pay...

I also find it slightly disturbing that they specifically tell people they're stupid if they pay for it. That is the counter-intuitive part. I'm the model that got really fucking tired of the guys saying "I was told I didn't have to pay for this." And the fact that they got this from the site itself is disturbing.

THIS!! It's kind of a diss to all of the premium members as well. I think it could have been worded MUCH better.

I find it quite disturbing that the sex trade is still a multi-billion dollar business all over the world. That is one fight I could get behind, but I'd likely let my passion for it either catch me a bullet or throat slit.

If you have a problem with MFC, bitch to admin.

I was under the impression that site was not supported by mfc... I thought it was an independent affiliate who made the site without consent/support from the mfc admins.

This.
If you hover over the link he wants you to click - it is an affiliate link.

Exactly. Looks like someone was so desperate for free tokens that he put up a website especially for that.
20 tokens for each basic, 200 more if they becomes premium... freeloaders can be very crafty :-D

I would if I thought it would do anything. I sent them a screen shot of a mom and her 4 year old daughter on cam. They did nothing. It's a waste of time.

What I know is that MFC affiliate program is private. You only join it if MFC invites you and you get $$, not free tokens.

What I believe is that when the link has cam=XXXXXX it is an affiliate. If it has baf=XXXXXX it is a normal member.

A member spamming his BAF link wouldn't use a parameter (track) for better tracking the clicks. This is probably a parameter that affiliates can check on detailed stats. Also, a member wouldn't register the site under the name of a UK company.

So, I'd say that site was created by an affiliate/partner, not a member, and MFC has approved it. Honestly, I see nothing wrong with this.

I can confirm that mfc's Bring a Friend program gets you tokens [according to mfc wiki] - and link for it contains 'baf' string. This one contains 'cam' so it is certainly a referral program. Thanks for pointing that out.

The way it's presented is questionable, though. It seems to appeal to members who want to spy on models working on multiple sites, when they forget [forget?] to switch to away mode when they go pvt elsewhere. Not in the best taste, in my opinion. But maybe it just rubs me wrong because I am a paying member...

Who cares if it is being marketed as a free cam site? The paying members aren't going to stop paying because of the marketing. The people that REFUSE to pay can ALWAYS go somewhere to find a girl masturbating. It doesn't have to be MFC, it can be any number of websites that they can go to to see this, including some where the girls do it just for fun. I think there are members that will simply skate by on the shows someone else paid for (because they can't afford to tip or because they don't want to), but no matter how you spin it there will ALWAYS be someone that straight up says they will never spend money on the girl.

If they want to tip, they will tip, if they don't want to, then they won't tip, but it has nothing to do with how they market or what they are called. It brings people to the website...at that point it is up to them to decide whether they want to tip or not.

I don't see how it is insulting to paying members either. Why do you tip? Because you like the girl, the because you enjoy her shows, her smile, etc. so why would you care what someone else says about you using your money to show her appreciation?

It is called MyFreeCams, is it not? Note that word "free". It's a marketing hook and it's a good one. The three most powerful words in marketing are "new", "free" and "sex". People are simple creatures and they respond favourably to these concepts. That kinda marketing is gonna get people through the door, and once they're inside, who knows, they might actually spend a little. Surely, the more folk using the site, the greater chance the models have of being tipped?

Yes,I get it. It's a cattle call and FREE is very attractive. But, did you happen to watch the ad/video I posted? Listen to the words & catch the general tenor of the message? If you didn't, plz do.

It starts with "Hello, my name is Derrek. I created this video to show you why you should NEVER! PAY! AGAIN! FOR LIVE! SEX!..." The announcer goes on to say "I, like many of you, spent a fortune on other sites, and let me tell you I was mad at myself for being SO STUPID!". This ad doesn't merely suggest you'll get something for free, I think it actively says you don't have to pay, you shouldn't pay, you should be angry if you did pay and you are stupid if you do pay.

With those ideas set in potential members minds, do you think it is more or less difficult for a model to get a tip?

This! You'd be surprised how many basics have converted to premium just because they want to talk in my chat room or enter one of my raffles / games.

ive seen it before and it pissed me off but it also made me realize the mfc dynamic is a totally different one from any site out there. mfc is made to be a social place rather than one of business while you can make great money generally people aren't paying you for the t and a they are paying you because they want to see you succeed and because your room is fun and interactive and they think your a cool person to hang out with/hot. you can log onto mfc at any time and easily find a girl to masturbate to without ever paying a dime its true but if thats all your out for in the first place you can find free porn anywhere. so while i have a deep dislike for the way they worded this it appeals to the masses and draws people in who maybe thought they were there for a quick cum but end up being charmed by a girl and want to join in on the sense of community. the downside of this is it also attracts a lot of dumbasses which is part of the reason i dont work mfc on a regular basis anymore because i cannot handle the sheer mindfuck of dealing with that many tards at once. for the more patient and creative girls this kind of advertising does more good than bad. i can understand and appreciate why the o.p is mad though i was too when i first saw this it felt like a personal jab at my whole income.

It's a misleading advert but I don't think it's a detriment to camgirls. It promises "free live sex" (as is already implied in the name of the site) but providing free public shows aren't being given by the models left, right and centre (it's my understanding they're frowned upon by the powers that be), those who do come to the site in the hopes of "free live sex" are gonna be left wanting.

By signing up as a free basic (which is what the advert encourages you to do), folk are gonna be given the opportunity to cycle through thousands of girls' cams, not be able to communicate with 90% of them (basics be muted all over the place, yo), not be able to request "live free sex" and unless they're particularly lucky and chance upon a public show, not be able to see "live free sex".

At this point, they're gonnna be left with two options. Be bored or sign up as a premium. If even a small percentage of them elect to sign up, that's additional tokens in circulation that some camgirl is gonna benefit from.
