In case any of you missed it from our blog post and twitter feed, I want to give some of you still the chance to participate. We will be selecting dozens of MV girls from all the fundme campaigns on MV, and make them come true(100% earning, no deductions). This is aside from our 10k top earner monthly contest. We want to give back to MV girls, regardless of their position or earnings on the site.

Let me copy here our blog post:

The new year is approaching fast, and 2015 has been an outstanding & exciting year. To start 2016 off with the same great spirit and energy, we are happy to share some exciting news: we will be donating $30,000 to the girls of MV!

ManyVids is providing you ALL the opportunity to reach your goals and get what you want - #MVHelpingHand

Wondering how you can be part of this? Its simple!

Set up a 'Fund Me' on your MV profile for anything your little heart desires! You want to fix your car? A new kitten? New boobs? To re-decorate your room? A lighting kit? A new toy? A designer purse? A flight home for the holidays? The sky is the limit!

No dreams are too big or too small!

#MVHelpingHand entry requirements:
  • Be an MV girl
  • Have at least 3 vids
  • Setup a 'Fund Me' for your wish

How will they be deciding who gets how much and how the funds are divided?

Edit: Because this seems like potentially a popularity contest that will royally suck to participate in.

We will decide between 50-100 girls who will receive the funds. We will read all fundme's that participate and drop the funds directly in your earnings for this period. Popularity has nothing to do with it. We wanted to give back to everyone, and most importantly those who don't reach some of our contest and top earner bonuses.
We feel that you all helped bring MV to the top, and it's our way to thank almost all of you during the holidays!

Thank you for clarifying! :)

Here are the winners for the $30,000 #MVHelpingHand:

Starting in 2016, we are extending this project.

(copied from the form page) We want to offer a helping hand in achieving your goals. Giving back has became one of our main priorities at MV. Here are examples of future #MVHelpingHand Fund Me projects that are most likely to receive help:
  • A plane ticket to go shoot porn in a different city.
  • Plastic surgery you desire to give you that extra edge you want.
  • New lighting or equipment for your cam shows.
  • Being willing to document your experience for the MV blog or make vids exclusive to MV.
Remember this is a year-long initiative. Dream, and dream big. We’re here for you. ;)

PS: Congratz Rose! :)

Omg!!! Thank you!!!! That will completely pay off 2 of my bills!

While I applaud what you folks did, this rubbed me off the wrong way:

Being brutally honest, this seems more like self-service than giving back - the list reads a lot like 'things that will ensure you make more content to sell through our site (and preferably exclusively through our site)', which is not giving back, it's an investment in the business. Now, if you focused on other things as well such as helping performers pay their debt/medical bills, that would be giving back and would 'buy' you a lot of brand loyalty from performers (and some buyers).

Umm....... That's kind of what they just did for me, but it's also fairly common knowledge that once all the medical debt from my fucked up surgery in April is paid off that I'll be using all of that money to reinvest in my filming. So no they aren't directly buying me a camera, but in a roundabout way they are.

I'm not saying that helping people in situations like yours isn't an investment (as anyone with good business knowledge knows that people that are stressed/distracted will under-perform), but their post is really badly thought out. For example, the future funding event is being framed as 'giving back', but then the list of funds more likely to be contemplated contain things such as 'willing to make exclusive content or document stuff for us' - that's not giving back - that's contracting someone for a job. Giving back usually means giving something without expectation of returns, which is not the case here. (and even then, let's not be naive - stories like yours are great advertising, specially in a time like now, when there's MV competitors that cant even pay their performers)

Also, it seems to me that they haven't thought how to get more impact for their money. For example, who are you more likely to remember a year or two from now - someone who helped you buy a camera/work trip or someone who helped you pay your debt? One is an event that is likely to happen several times over your life (specially as a performer) and hence more likely to be forgotten, while the other is more rare/exceptional event.

Taking what you said, them giving me $500 for medical debt so I can work more IS contracting me for a job......

Who cares what the girls who won do with their money? ManyVids was just trying to do something nice for a large amount of active performers and they did. I fail to see why it's anyone's business what the funds are for so long as those gifted use the money for what they said they would.

Edit: It seems worth noting that if this keeps getting scrutinized like this, that there will be an extremely slim chance of it ever happening again. I'd much rather a few girls get boob jobs or whatever and a bunch of other girls get cash and everyone sucks it up and says congratulations with good sportsmanship so that it will encourage ManyVids to do this again in the future.

I don't really understand the backlash this is getting by any stretch either. I'm not on ManyVids. So, I'm not invested. But, they didn't say they were giving to charity. And, let's be real. If you're a camgirl, you have a job that you can't get fired from. Your hours can't be cut. If you're in dire straights, put your ass in front of your screen. Sit through the $0 hour and make the money for food and rent. Let's not act like desperate folks because some girl gets 1/5th of a boob job. Realistically, this $30k is tax write off for MV at a perfect time. I'm sure plenty of site owners are looking for crap to write off of their taxes without thinking about handing some cash to the models that make their money. So, kudos to Manyvids for going that direction.

In this industry, you have a lot of greedy camsites and clipsites. To be honest we do not need the extra publicity, and we are already sitting now at #1 in traffic... this is really a gesture of gratitude and it's unfortunate you read it that way. The MV girls who are part of our site and interact with our team on a daily basis know how much we care about them. I think we have proved it by now every step of the way, including this event :)

Ps: there are plenty of tax write offs like large company staff bonuses, new equipment, computers, office equipment, higher salaries, company cars, expensive trips, etc... just food for thought...

Exactly!
Ultimately, if girls are unhappy that they didn't win and feel unable to be happy for others, that is okay. It is not, however, okay to publicly bash those who did and try to take away from their joy. This is a thought process that I've mostly successfully imparted to my 3 year old. It shouldn't have to be said to a group that is all over 18.

Anthony, I like the work that is being done by MV, but sometimes you miss the mark when it comes to communication. For example, the quote above feels really out of place considering it was a requirement for the contest to tweet a link to the fund (a link to MV) and the hashtag you set (both of which are free publicity), plus the fact that now a lot (if not all) winners are tweeting about it, with mentions to your twitter account (including some comparisons to clipvia), which means right now your site's name is being spread to a larger number of people than your twitter account by itself previously could reach... So excuse me if I don't believe that you folks didn't expect some nice publicity out of this, even if this wasn't the main goal.

And to be really clear here, there's nothing wrong with free publicity from an event like this: at the end of the day, growing the site opens up a lot of possibilities for everyone involved, such as more frequent events like this or reaching a transaction volume where you are able to negotiate lower processing fees/higher payout percentages. All I strongly recommend is to be extremely clear and upfront about selection criteria, as all complaints I've seen so far could be solved by having those clearly defined.

In case you weren't aware, this is standard practice. Clips4Sale also used twitter and hashtags for their contests.

While it's not required for participants, the Miss MFC winners typically tweet and hashtag their ranks as well. In no way is ManyVids stepping outside of the norm in this. It's unfair to accuse them of doing this strictly for publicity when it's already a very widespread practice.

Also, even if charity/giveaways are done for publicity...who cares? People do a lot of things for attention and money...being charitable is pretty much the best thing you can do to get it. I'm so sick of the idea that people should only do good things out of the kindness of their heart. If more people realized they can benefit personally from making the world a better place...the world would probably be a better place. Nobody is 100% selfless.
