Even if it weren't a fire in the plane, it seems much more likely that there was a fault on the plane which would be why the pilot would have redirected for the nearest airport than any of the other weird theories.

Except the new flight plan was programmed at least 12 minutes prior to the co-pilot's last transmission saying goodnight all is OK.

This one is the most realistic one I've read. I think that the author of this article is probably right. But then it's not a conspiracy theory, it's just a simple, practical theory based on the information at hand. Even if it weren't a fire in the plane, it seems much more likely that there was a fault on the plane which would be why the pilot would have redirected for the nearest airport than any of the other weird theories.

The one on the moon made me laugh. I read up on that one and apparently about 50/60 years ago the sport had the same front cover talking about a different plane on the moon with the same photo, then when they looked at the moon and discovered there was no plane the next front cover said "plane on moon disappears" or something like that. So the article I guess may be a bit of a joke because of that?
I think you underestimate just how safe these planes are.
Also, it flew 5-7 hours in the wrong direction. That's hardly considered to the "nearest airport."

I think it could be one of two things. The plane was hijacked by the guys who stole the passports. Or the pilot went off the rocker.

I'll have a punt on the theory that it was a slow loss of cabin air pressure. The crew would become confused and disorientated after a while, then fall unconscious and die from hypoxia. The plane then carries on flying on the last inputted heading and crashes into the ocean when the fuel runs out.

Similar to what happened when Payne Stewart died in 1999...

THE MOTHER FUCKING SNAKES ON THIS MOTHER FUCKING PLANE WON!

Where is Samuel Jackson when you need him.

It's either the snakes or mother fucking zombies...that what I think.

It's very sad for the lives lost and the families who's hearts have been virtually ripped from their chest. :(

I can just only hope that it was somehow quick and they died as peacefully as possible.

They are giving $5,000 to family of each passenger on the plane.

Only 5g?! :snooty:

Shocking but doesn't surprise me, the airlines insurer went by "low balling" grieving families so they could save money.
They give a low number...they get you to sign off on it and they are out of any legal loops. They try and hit you when you are still emotionally off balance.
Best thing they can do is get some legal representation for their protection and force the company to follow up with any information that comes down the line.

Where did you read that?

Malaysia Airlines says it is providing comprehensive support for the families of the 239 people aboard Flight 370.

FOOD AND LODGING: Hotel, transportation, meals and other expenses have been provided for up to five family members per passenger since the flight disappeared March 8, and the airline intends to continue the support as long as families require it.

FINANCIAL HELP: The airline provided US$5,000 per passenger to the next of kin initially and will offer more payments as the search for the jetliner continues.

ROUND-THE-CLOCK CARE: It has assigned more than 700 caregivers — including two per family — to offer support and counseling to families on a 24-hour basis.

The Malaysian government has said that it has offered family members of those on board flight MH370 compensation of $5000 each, and is preparing to pay more. The relatives of passengers aboard the plane have already been put up in hotels at the expense of the airline as search efforts continued.

ETA: The next of kin would be foolish at this point to sign anything limiting compensation without being represented by a lawyer.

I read it as it was breaking news on CNN. At the time, they said nothing about possible more money.

From what little I understand so far is that the airline will be paying out $175K, or more per person that perished under the international airline treaty. That number is only IF no negligence or liability issues can be found/proven. Not to mention the possibility of class action suits... and BTW, the Malaysian government is part owner of Malaysia Airlines. Hardly a compensation for losing loved ones, just sharing what I've learned.

And did I hear this right? They sent a fucking TEXT MESSAGE to the family members to let them know there was no possibility of their loved ones being alive?! What kind of bullshit is that???

I heard that a text message was the pre-established agreement ONLY if they could not personally talk to or contact the next of kin prior to any public announcement so the NOK was at least notified prior to the public. I can't imagine anyone doing such a thing unless it was unavoidable. Then again... :dontknow:

But if they can text, couldn't they at least call?? Or do you mean they tried to call and got no answer?

I still dont understand how a plane just disappeared
The ocean is vast!

More so than most people think about. Think of how large is the state of State of Texas. It takes almost 15 hours just to drive across that. Now imagine having to search every square foot of that state. Then to put that into perspective, this is one of the suggested paths of the plane.

This outline in the middle is Texas to scale for that area. It honestly would be shocking to me if they did find the plane. That would be the true testament to modern technology.
