Ok ladies, I need a little help from the MUAs or models that know their way around a brush here.

So Valentines Day is coming and one of the models I really like is asking for a make-up brush set on her wishlist. Now I look at it and compare it to other brush sets I've seen of the same price with excellent reviews and I feel I want to upgrade what she currently has to the better option. Now I'm no expert at any of this nor do I have a very big budget to get her the hoytie-toytie expensive MAC or Sephora stuff but I don't want to settle for the inferior goods either.

The set she's asking for is a 10pc set for $30 by FantaSea and I'm willing to spend a little more if there are much better sets to be had. She's a really sweet model and she's every bit worth it even though I'm a broke ass college student. =) Here's a link to what she's asking for.

Now my question is does anyone here know or use any other better sets than the one she's asking for for around this price? I know some of you ladies pride yourselves on your make-up so any guidance you can school me on would be appreciated. I could be over doing this altogether but this girl is a simple real deal sweetie that doesn't really ask for very much.

edit: sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I think all the brushes made by Bare Minerals are awesome. High quality and a tad pricey but worth it. I'd link ya but I'm on my phone at the vet :).

I couldn't really find too many sets on Bare Minerals. What about something like this? Does it look like all the brushes in the 10pc set are in here too?

Here's another one I've found but it's a 7pc set so I don't know what brushes it's lacking from the 10pc and it's like $20 more but all the reviews on this seem top notch.

Thanks for the replies so far. I like where this is going, good quality is something that I'm looking for too. I'm probably the only guy you'll ever know that's putting in this much work to find the right brush set and I assure you I'm as straight as they come. haha..

I just ordered and received today a Hello Kitty MAC Brush Set that contains 7 brushes and a case....havent used it yet but I will let you know how they are....Also I got these because I just got the Coastal Scents Ultra Shimmer 88 Pallette and needed special brushes to get the effects of the looks I want to try and duplicate for when I am on MFC.

I know everyone knows im a makeup lover ;) here is my fave all time brushes they are super soft, durable and reliable and up side super cheap from amazon oh yea they clean and dry very very good too and ive never had one bristle fall out ever(this brand has many differant sets as well)

http://www.amazon.com/Ecotools-Alic...UD6O/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1297128206&sr=8-9

i also have this set http://www.amazon.com/Bundle-Monste...sr_1_1?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1297128444&sr=1-1 its an awesome set it was a gift to me and it has everything. It does take some time for the brushes to be softed though so they are a bit ruff. She would need to wash and treat them with a good oil before the first use.

your sweet for putting thought into your gift idea hope I helped

The second of the two looks better quality. Here's a Bare Minerals/Escentuals set on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Bare-Escentuals-B ... 159&sr=8-9

MAC brushes are amazing. In fact everything that MAC does is amazing. Pricey, but when looked after, they will last a lifetime - and it's worth noting that they do cheaper and more expensive versions of each brush (and the cheaper ones are still fab). If you wanted to just get her a few rather than a 10 piece set, she would be able to do a good job on her eyes with a couple of flat brushes, a blending brush and an eyeliner brush. Just an idea...

My favorite brushes by far are the Crown brush sets.

I've worked for MAC Cosmetics for 3 years. I've been through my fair share of make up brushes. Honestly MAC brushes are amazing, but not for the price. Crown brushes are made the exact same way MAC brushes are. Top companies that I can't name use Crown brushes, but get their logo printed on them.

If you want budget make up brushes, you should check out http://www.eyeslipsface.com/
They have $3 and $5 brushes. They also have $1 brushes, but they arent as good. Their studio and mineral line brushes are soooo soft and hold make up very well.

Let me know if you need any more help. :-D

You're the first person I thought of when I made this thread and figured it was just a matter of time till you chimed in. I know for dudes like myself I'm particular about what tools and electronics I buy and just assumed women are the same with make-up brushes.

Hailey what do you think of Bare Minerals opposed to Crown or ELF? Is one softer or sheds more than the other? There are so many sets on the Crown and ELF websites to choose from.
Crown - Set 502 Deluxe Studio Set
Crown - Set 606 16pc Professional
E.L.F. - Studio 11pc

Here are the brushes from the set she wants:
Powder Brush, Blush Brush, Eyelash Comb/Eyebrow Brush, Large Shadow Brush, Medium Shadow Brush, Small Shadow Brush, Lip Brush, Fan Brush, Eyeshadow Applicator, Liner Brush

ugh reading everything I just typed is becoming more awkward. Kill me now if I'm starting to sound like I'm losing my manhood. Again thank you ladies for helping me out with this. Amber, BadAssCurves, Body, Elly, Kitty, Hailey and anyone else, I appreciate your help.

lol once again i feel like a guy again.. i just buy 5 dollars sets brushes.. never really understand whats so special about 50 dollar sets?

Can I just say that she might've wanted that particular one for a specific reason. You might want to ask her before you buy it.

That's why I'm trying to find a set that closely matches the brushes in the set she wants but you're right, I'll ask her if there are any particular brushes she's needing or just a general purpose set.

I think Bare Minerals brushes are alright. They arent horrible, but they're face brushes are a bit rough compared to other brands. Then when you factor in the price, its not worth it.

Different make up companies offer types of brush sets, but the problem is they are factory made instead of hand made like their regular single brushes. The quality of the brush goes down when its in a set because of how it is made. This normally happens with the MAC holiday brush sets. Thats why prices for sets are cheaper.

Out of the links that you posted, I'd probably say the Set 606 is the best. I compared them to the brushes she wants in the other set. Seems like the best choice.

I've never heard of that FantaSea brand. Did she say she wanted that specific brand or what she wanted that set?

I think she just went on Amazon and searched out the first brush set she saw. I'm waiting to hear from her if there was anything special about the one on her list though.

thats because you havnt tried them hun (im just assuming), HUGE difference. Id put one on your wishlist!
And my two cents. the eco tool brushes might not look fancy or quality but they're just awesome! great product :)

I spent $30 on one brush from Sephora and I use it for my mineral foundation powder. I also have a cheaper brush from Clinique and I definitely prefer the finish that the $30 brush provides me. Cosmetic brushes are an investment.

I bought the eco tools set and the glue came off the wooden part from the brush in 1 week :(

I'm so happy for this thread. I never had a mother around so I have NO IDEA what make up is or why it looks like shit on me. Now I think it may be because I don't know HOW to use it. I don't apply make up with brushes AT ALL, let alone cheap ones, I actually have some bare minerals powders (ex's mom gave me the colors too light for her) and apply it with my hands. I can't wait to invest in some nice brushes and maybe get some advice on different cosmetics from you guys, but make up is on the end of my list of needs since I've worn nothing but mascarra for my whole life but now I may have to start my collection sooner than later.
