May have been done, but i wanted to start a new thread for your views on my view!! Here goes:

I freaking loved the new Mad Max : Fury Road..... My fella, didnt. He really didnt enjoy it at all, when we got home we watched all the originals .. i can kind of see his point, so its this:

He said that it was nothing like the original mad max's was he said they basically took parts from each film and threw another one together and was rather disappointed... The story seemed too much about her, rather than Max..

After watching the originals again, im not sure if i agree with what he says, Does anyone else share his view?

Oh gosh. I am so excited this thread exists.

I honestly went into the movie, prepared to think the way your fella does. I am obsessed with the older Mad Max movies, so when I heard they were remaking it, my heart dropped and I grumbled like an old man. Buuuut, I still had to see it. And I was blown away. There were some inconsistencies compared to the original trilogy, but over all, I felt like it did an amazing job of capturing the spirit of the world of Mad Max.

It was nothing like the original Mad Max, which is okay, because the first movie barely feels a part of the story. It's more of a Dystopian future, the beginnings of the decline, and too close to the real world, in my opinion. I'm not a super fan of the original. But bring in Road Warrior and Thunder Dome, and you've got a truly post-apocalyptic world of desert and wildness and pure ferocity. And Fury Road really keeps to that spirit, with everything from the vehicle aesthetics from Road Warrior to the wild children (Feral Kid, Waiting Ones, and now the War Boys). Heck, the man who played Immortan Joe was also Toe Cutter from the original Mad Max! How cool is that?!

Your fella was disappointed that the story didn't revolve as much around Max... But the same can be said about the others (except Mad Max). The movies had Max as a main character, but I always ended up remembering the people that Max helped. That's what the stories were about - not delving as much into the whys and reasons of who Max was, but watching him help others in a world where everyone else just looked out for themselves in order to survive. The secondary characters were always so vivid to me - the Gyro Captain, Master Blaster, the Waiting Ones, Lord Humungus, the Feral Kid - so watching Max step in to help Furiosa and the Wives felt exactly in keeping with the spirit of the films! That's what Max does!

I am so glad George Miller came back to bring his brainchild back to life. He did take elements from the other movies - the best ones, in my opinion, and I am glad he did, or it wouldn't have felt like a part of the Mad Mad universe. Plus, they added some awesome and unique elements that belong to Fury Road alone - the Warboys and the culture of the Citadel, the tribe of Vuvalini, the Doof Warrior!!

When I left the movie theater after watching Fury Road, I was more in love with the world of Mad Max than ever before! And to me, that's a sign of success! I can't wait to see the others! :)

Awesome reply!! Thank you so much! I agree with you totally... I also absolutely loved the new mad max!! x

Kaos...I thought the latest one was brilliant...a straight up road rage movie. Charlize was fantastic in it, lots of good characters in it. I have seen all the original ones a few times and the way I look at it is, this one is a stand alone. Comparing them is kind of pointless...in some ways...Fury Road was better than some of the original movies. I mean Thunderdome is alright but Fury Road is better. Now Mad Max and Road Warrior are great films, for me Road Warrior, the second one is the best of the trilogy.
I went in kind of jaded saying "Hmmmm I don't know" and came out very happy and surprised. It was kind of cool to see Toe-Cutter again after all these years wondering what happened to that actor.
For me, overall, good movie lots of fun and even in 3D it was a blast...kind of looking forward to the next one now.

I already started an MM:FR thread a while back, but whatever. If he doesn't like it because it's nothing like the original movies then I think your "fella" needs to rewatch the 'em again and actually pay attention.

The only movie where Max is the main character and story lead is the original that came out in 1979. He's still the lead character in Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome but the story is more focus'ed on other characters while Max solving their problems and doing their dirty work. Just like a drifter in an old Western movie.

Fury Road is fantastic, George Miller used the same film-making technique's he used back then along with some modern day technology and nailed it It's very in the faithful to the look and feel of the original movies and I was not dissapointed.

Like I said in the other thread, I did not want to see MM:FR. But I was blown away by it, and I'd say it's the best movie I've seen in several years. (I might be slightly biased against the originals as I'm not a fan of Mel Gibson.)

Does it truly matter if the story was geared more like Charlize Theron's movie with Tom Hardy in a semi-lead/semi-supporting role? The movie was great regardless....

I think of it lik those old samurai movies (or the Incredible Hulk, or the A-Team) where the hero wanders into town and gets involved in the guest star's story - sometimes they team up, etc, but most of the story is about the guest star. Then our heroes wanders on to the next town.

Oh, wait, that's The Littles Hobo.

Whatever! Greatest film of the year.

Meh, it was ok. I grew up on the two original Max movies, and this one just didn't have the same feel to it. Had more of a Thunderdome vibe - and I always thought Thunderdome was terrible.

I know the Max movies were usually telling someone else's stories through Max's eyes, but Max was always central to the story. This one seemed to be less that and more just straight-up about Theron's character with Max as supporting cast.

Also, original Max was a pretty clever and resourceful guy, where this Max seemed really inept. Like barely tie his own shoelaces inept.

That said, if I think of it as a stand-alone movie, and not part of the Max series, then it was enjoyable-ish.
