The #xxx number is the Alexa rank, don't take it too seriously, because small pay users traffic is more $$ than billion pops. I grouped sites by Usa/Global, Euro, Asia niches. Just did some research, and apparently Alexa rankings are mostly bullshit. It only tracks people with the Alexa toolbar installed on their browser which means it's a very small sample size and very easy to fake pageviews.

Some hint why some sites are higher or lower rank unexpectedly: You can buy pop underr ads at 1000 per $1 to make higher ranking for example, but this is no one user you have... Also even if viewers are real, but mostly from 3rd world countries, or teenagers, that's not so useful in terms of paying members you can expect there. Some sites only get pay users via specific adverts (like... models bring them there one by one) and so very low ranking, but more pay users than who's full of free pops.

Part of it may be that Bonga installed tracking code from alexa while the others have not. So MFC, chaturbate and streamate are "estimated."



Also I'm wondering if the 'Linking in' part is skewing it somehow. Does alexa count it as a visit when a page with a linked ad is loaded from Bongacams? If Bonga has an ad on thousands of other web pages and every time someone loads one of those it pulls in information from Bonga, does Alexa metrics count that as a visit to the main site thus skewing it all favorably? I don't know how Alexa does their metrics. I just noticed this on them. Seems likely it has something to do with it.

I too had a knee jerk reaction to the placement of bongacams in that tier of camsites.

But, using some of the analytics tools ranked in this article ...

But of course the devil is in the details. In the comparison vs. MFC, the lower time on site, the lower # page views, the higher bounce rate, and the fact their traffic source is mainly referrals ... this paints a picture of them "pulling" in traffic heavily through adult ad networks and people "accidentally" getting there vs. mfc where people are directly going there for a purpose.

I would bet the spend per user is quite low vs. the spend per user on mfc.

In addition, the site seems to be very much European based and targeted, which lends itself to lack of awareness here in the States.

After looking at data on the various cam sites (of course all taken with a grain of salt as 3rd party analytics/metrics are all guesstimations), I never realized the growth spurt chaturbate has experienced.

Well, really I keep this list updated since 10 years or more, as part of my job of cam site(s) director, to know competition and market. So I can tell easily that of the sites launched after 2011 the one who jumped in traffic from 0 to top is chaturbate, and a year after we got bongacams going on top from zero. Then we got camplace which made good (with alexa) from those newer. Anyone knows camplace? All other new cam sites had less of luck.
About the older sites, some are there since lots and despite low alexa, they got several regular spenders and doing well.

To just end up high in alexa is enoigh to buy few $1000's a month of popunders at sites like trafficholder.com , trafficshop.com etc., for $1 per 1000 (discount for quantity). These will convert at 1 free user signup every 10,000 pops ($10 per free user, a mess) and 1 pay user every 50,000 - 200,000 pops (a real disaster), however your alexa rank will end up in the top 1000's - we had this in 2011 when we advertised the newly launched tubecamgirl.com , then we stopped such and made other adverts, and had low alexa but higher sales, guess what. Still, an alexa of #million is no good, let's say, you use alexa as 5% of your evaluation, no more.

The time on site and returning user it is very useful to understand quality of those hits, but ultimately the best way to appraise the traffic it is to have a model account and see if you're doing money. About model forums, most models will NOT tell others if they found a small unknown site doing them lots of money, as you don't invite competition there to share cash. Some of the dozens of small cam sites in the list are doing quite well with the few models who are careful not to tell other fellow models to come there

Specifically to bongacams, I do know the owner well, talked him when he launched and gave advice, and I know how much he spends in advertising (traffic, direct media buying) per month and that's a nice amount, they spend more than us and of several others down the list, so the high alexa rankings make sense. It is true that they're more popular in (east) europe than USA, got no USA models that I know of, and in this forum there's mostly USA people. However easxt european models tell me they are doing ok there, even got russians paying for shows, and letting russians pay for cam shows it is an archievement, if you ask me. We're also european (Amsterdam, NL) and got very few US/CA models, but 80% of our customers are from US/CA/UK. I think simply US/CA models prefer US/CA sites for some "trust the own country only" fashion?

Yes and no. If you're not looking at metrics, you're relying solely on intuition. You can't find a site for the first time and think; "Hmmm.....I bet this site is ranked number 213,506 globally and 15,468 in the USA".

So, unless it's based on actual analytics (and like I said, maybe we can ask really, really nicely ) metrics for sites such as these is the best we can go on.

Hell, election polling data is based off small sample groups and we all flaunt that like they're facts. Even exit polls which are used to call states before the official counts is the same core concept as far as sample groups used to illustrate big picture concepts.

Can't help you there. Seen it in the feed, couldn't help but to scroll through, seen some of the discussion and couldn't help but to comment. Google traffic, maybe? That seems to be one of the main reasons old threads get revived. Internal site search, if not that?

[referring to both Alexa and SimilarWebs] Despite accuracy, it's something I've been monitoring. Country data is fairly accurate, when you look networks such as AmateurCommunity, MyDirtyHobby, XCams, so-on. Which, that's probably more relevant in the grand scheme of things; whether you're trying to target the languages you speak, or whether you're trying to target USD / Euro traffic due to the exchange rate.

Really, the metrics I pay the most attention to is Domain Authority, a MOZ metric used to try to mimic Google's PageRank. Google doesn't regularly refresh PageRank stats. MOZ actually has crawlers, crawls the web just like Google and compares their SERPs with Google's and adjusts the algo to better mimic Google's. MOZ has Google reverse-engineered to roughly 70% accuracy, although that changes as the Google algo changes.

*BUT* even though those metrics are more relevant to me as an SEO, it doesn't help gauge media buy, referral traffic, ect. That's something where you need these metrics to even have the slightest insight.

......I really should start benchmarking DA though. I think I'm gonna start doing that.
