Usually somewhere between flippant and glib.
Hey ladies and gents...a model friend (Somewhat new to MFC) is looking for a decent quality laptop that won't break the bank. She wants it for outdoor stuff, shower shows, and going mobile on occasion. So I'm asking for recommendations on her behalf under a $1000. She's also somewhat new to the wireless world and could use suggestions in that realm as well.

Her name is JennaMarie http://profiles.myfreecams.com/JennaMarie#

You can pick any specs you want, but the first place I go these days is Dell's outlet. Refurbs, scratch & dent, open box stuff, but under the full dell warranty and decent prices. Usually free shipping and no sales tax. You compare what they have and make a good decision.

You can get a 17.3" Studio 1747 with 4GB of RAM and a 1.6 GHz Core i7 for $859.

Stock is constantly changing so you never know what you will find.

I'm certain other manufactures have outlets too.

I got my laptop from the dell outlet. Haven't had any problems, and I couldn't tell it wasn't new.

If she plans to only use it for basic internet things and camming I don't think she'd need anything all that good actually.

Here's a lappy with 3gigs of ram (more than enough.) It's single-core, and comes with Vista.

The hard drive is big enough for it being a laptop as well.

It comes with four USB ports - which are extremely useful for camming in my opinion. Sure, you could get a dock and then just set your laptop down and turn it into an instant desktop (Oh I'll do this soon,) but unless you want to be geeky with your setup it's easier to just watch the USB ports to begin with. Granted she may use more or less depending on how she does things and what she uses.

I believe a computer is usually worth tons more than we spend on it because of the amount of time we put into it for fun and leisure. However if it's just for camming, I wouldn't worry about anything over 3gigs or a big hard drive unless she plans to record videos onto her computer.

If it really is just for camming, why not a netbook? Just under $300, built for fast internet access and not much else.

I can't use the MFC software properly on a netbook myself. The screen is too small to ban anyone properly.

Yeah screen size is important for MFC. Being able to see our own video to ensure things look right, plus managing the main window along with PM windows, we need a little real estate.

My only suggestion is too get something you can't fit it out your window. The reason for this will be obvious after using it for a little while.
