currently my upload speed is 720

Numbers are useless without units. 720 what? Miles per hour? Tacos per mile? Beans per taco?

I'm going to assume you mean 720 Kbps, or kilobits per second. If that's the case, that's a fairly reasonable though modest upload speed. I don't think it's your problem, although I'm not sure, because you didn't actually describe what problem you're having. You just said you think you need a new internet provider, with no justification or explanation whatsoever. You didn't even specify whether or not you have the better of the two tiers from Time Warner.

If you want people to help you, how about giving them something to work with?

P.S. Try turning your cable modem up to 11

im soooo sorry that im not a computer genius and dont know what exactly to say, hence me asking here to begin with.

wow, im not sure how or why i pushed your buttons but damn...it was just a question. i realize this is your forum and im a noob here but that came off pretty rude.

Second what? That still doesn't clear it up. Second from best? Or second from the bottom? Say "better" or "worse". Not that it really matters at this point.

Actually, I first picked up the skill of "label analysis" in high school chemistry class. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Units_conv ... ctor-label

Also don't take it personal, I just like berating silly noobs.

Protip: These aren't actually my forums

This is far from bawksy's forum despite how much he may want people to think it is. My best advice when he finds his way into one of your threads is to please not feed the troll.

720 Kbps isn't too bad though I've personally had MOSTLY negative encounters with Time Warner when it comes to getting a fast, reliable connection at a fair price. That said, when I last lived in an area with Time Warner, 3 megabits down was considered pretty decent for an ISP from the USA. Do you notice issues when on cam? If so, do you think you could describe them?

thank you mirra, i appreciate your post.

i just seem to sometimes have a bit of a jumpy or unsmooth video feed sometimes. its not super bad but annoying enough. ive always wondered if some sites are the cause of this and not the ISP.

if anyone can suggest other ISPs in NE Ohio area that would be helpful, and i could do a bit of searching on my own.

If the video gets sporadically jumpy, it could be something so simple as somebody turned on a microwave and it disrupted your wireless for a minute. But that would only make sense if you were using a 2.4GHz access point. Which we don't know, due to lack of details about your networking setup.

The presentation was rude but the point remains: please, help us help you.

720kbps is standard fare for most higher end DSL services. Regular cable is around 2Mbps up and 5Mbps for a faster tier.

If you TW is promising speeds up to 5Mbps on your plan, and you are only getting 720kbps, then I suspect something is wrong. If they only promise 2Mbps, then the speeds you are getting are probably going to be the best you can get due to other constraints. Sometimes upgrading your cable modem helps, but its possible there are just too many people in your area using the Internet at the same time. Cable is shared bandwidth...

I suggest you check out the forums here: http://www.dslreports.com/forums/all for your provider and ask for input there. If you register with the site, you can post in the TW direct forums and get feedback from actual TW technicians.

I don't know about US ISP's, but have you run speed tests to see what sort of up/down speeds you actually achieve?
Additionally, does it vary depending upon time of day? Here in the UK certain times in the evening are considered "Peak" and so it's possible that your speeds will be significantly slower if you're in an area where many people use the internet (high contension, although only an issue on non cable afaik).

We have active traffic management - means if I use too much bandwidth during the day/evening, I can get throttled (speed is slowed by 75%) until it hits 1am...

Too bad that's the best TW offers where you are. TW here upgraded to DOCSIS 3 and I got the 30/5 tier. AT&T U-Verse here offers up to 3 mbits up, so maybe if they stop hating you, it might be an option.

720 sounds like a weird number, it's probably 768 kbits, which is 3/4 of a mbit. That should be enough to cam, but during peek times your internet may slow down.

Does you internet slow down at the same time everyday, or is it sporadic?
