I just got a new laptop and its acer. I am hoping to find a screen recording program to record my shows. I used screenflow on my macbook and it worked pretty well for me. Camstudio showed up as a virus so I didnt use it. When I use manycams picture in picture members were telling me I froze. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Oooooh, how are you liking your Acer? Are you running Windows 8? How is it compared to OSX?

I'm currently on a MacBook, and in desperate need of a new computer. I'm thinking of going PC because so much cam-related stuff seems to work better with a PC than a Mac. Also, they are waaaay cheaper and I can spend more on a fancy-ass webcam.

The last time I touched a PC, Acer didn't exist, and Dell was the only game in town (IBM had just breathed its last breath).

Also, any chance you could link to the model you bought? I would love to see what kind of specs you have and what you think of them. Thanks so much!

I am using a Toshiba Sattelite right now it's going on I think 6 years who knows. but I am definitely hoping to buy a desktop in the next couple of months.

I narrowed down the key things to look for in buying a new machine for camming or video editing is.

1. Is the laptop screen large enough ?
How large is the screen, If you are stuck on laptops then go with anything bigger then 17 inches, if you go smaller then you might end up doing what I am doing and connect a monitor or tv screen to your laptop to make the viewing experience better.

2. Does it have a high performance processor?
Better the procces the better time you will have video editing and video broadcasting. Since The adobe Flash Media Encorder takes a lot of PC power to run and broadcast your video. Basically anything above a dual core process If you can afford a quad core then your all set.

3. Does it have a high end graphics card that will work with your video editing software to speed up rendering and editing?
I am not sure how much this matters for broadcasting video but it does matter for video editing. Some laptops don't even list their graphic card info so you might have to upgrade your laptop for one.

4. Does it have fast internal hard drives? (Should be 7200RPM+ or Solid State for video editing)
You mostly see the 7200 RPM on desktop computers, but some of the gaming laptops have it. the faster this runs the easier it is to handle broadcasting.

5. Does it have enough RAM for high performance video editing?
I hear windows 8 takes a lot of RAM, and then so does webcam softwares and the flash media encoder software so whatever your box says the RAM is as soon as you upgrade it to the highest it can go.

6. Does it have a built in "SD Card Reader" for quick capture of video content?
This helps a lot if your doing video editing from a camera that has a SD card. comes in handy but depending on your needs might not be a must have feature.

7. Does it have USB 2.0 ports or USB 3.0 ports?
Short version 2.0 is slower then 3.0, If your webcam is HD you wanna 3.0 to make it an easier plugin and stream. then external harddrives makes it faster for transferring and working off files when its 3.0. Ideal try and get a machine that has at least 1 3.0 usb port.

Once I learned this from a few video ones youtube the whole computer buying process became a lot easier of what questions to ask in the store and not have my head spinning trying to cover up what I do when I am talking to a sales person. I focus on a machine that I need for video editing and uploading and a system for being a webcam model falls into place.

Wow Minnie that is so helpful thank you. Elsalil_Stiller, here are the specs

acer aspire v5-552pg-x603

quad core a10-5757m with turbo core technology up to 3.5ghz

sm. radeon hd 8750 with 2gb of ram

windows 8.1

8gb of ram memory and 1tb of space with a 15.5 in touch screen display

Windows vs. Mac is like fearless web browsing on a mac and watching what you click and blocking ads for Windows. As for applications it is simple to work with OSX when you know which apps to work with and for Windows be prepared to either spend money on virus protection and being able to spend more money on apps to do what you want to do or either pirating them.
