I'm sure that anyone who has been on MFC in the last week or two has seen this LindaSoGentle Skype scam/spam. "My bf dumped me and I am sad. Add me on skype." "My bf cheated on me and I am pissed and want revenge. Add me on skype." "guys my pussy needs help, hit me up on skype: Lindasogentle." And many more.

Now I am not very tech-savvy, but is there something MFC can do about this? The spam comes from new accounts all the time, so a simple ban won't work. And I am sure if they are clever scammers they are using proxies. So what then? Do we have to wait for them to get bored or until their scam runs dry? :angry4:

I would think at the very least they might have word filtering options. Wordpress and several types of forum software even have it. But maybe that advancement hasn't been built into flash chat software yet. They could block the text "LindaSoGentle" and "Skype" too from even displaying if they did. Would save a lot of models a lot of problems.

Ha ha, I know Skype is unpopular on this site, but I generally really like it, so this would sadden me. But I would almost approve it it got rid of this shit. Would this filtering be like some sites blocking certain naughty words?

I wonder if everyone is like me: thinking that someone else will report it to MFC. Next time I see it, I am reporting.

Yes. Now that I think about it, some flash chats do have this feature too. Just don't know about MFC's. The filter on one chat used to auto-replace a word the admins didn't want people to use with the word "Turdcave." It became a running joke.

I am so in favour of this
I have a feeling it would at least slow "Linda" down, if not completely stop "her."

I report any scummy member activity like that, whether it happens while I'm camming or while I'm perving. The only way for this to go away is for people to be proactive. It's not unusual to have the "someone else will do something" attitude, but chances are that everyone else is thinking it, too. It can be difficult to be the one who takes action, but it feels better to know for certain that at least one person did something than it does to hope someone did.

The crazy thing about the "Linda" accounts is that they are apparently all old accounts. Like opened in 2010 and haven't been back in a LONG time. So some bot has found a way to log into these accounts. Even if MFC bans each one, there are probably millions more just waiting to be used. MFC needs to find a way to stop the accounts from being reactivated before they can do anything else. You reporting each account as you see it is a good way to proactively help, though.

I noticed this too. It makes me worried that there is more to this than simple spamming.

I had not noticed this. Eek! Now I worry about MY 2 old accounts that I have long forgotten the passwords for.

They may be finding accounts with weak passwords, be using fishing attacks, or have trojan viruses on people's computers.

Ooooh OMG! I just noticed I have 69 emails and 42 tweets! 69 and 42! If I had taken this at 11:38pm I would be doing a dance with burning sage in my yard right now.

Completely off-topic, I know, but... what's the 11:38pm relevance?

It's a very Geeky number related to George Lucas! THX 1138. It's an in joke from his student days worked it into a lot of stuff he has produced. I think he just considers it good luck to use.

Loosely accurate.
A big joke about 'We are 138" is that Glen Danzig has made a pretty big point over the years to David Lynch his way through explaining it, so much to the point that when he wrote it the other members of the band were only able to guess what it meant.

It is far from good luck though and from what most people assume, though it's never been officially confirmed it's about living life as a number like an android. The only sure thing Danzig gave away when asked what the song was about is "it's about violence" ...

Some people say it's about living life like an android with only a number for a name, others say it's about being able to kill without hesitation. It's been long discussed and debated even among the members of the band.

In the end, it's probably super stupid like all Misfits lyrics (C'mon that's why we love them) and the mystery around it was probably the only substance the song really had.

Sorry to off topic... I'm a Danzig nut. :?
