this is my 63 euro (including cable and phone) p/m speed, if i get the highest available it would be around 120 mbit download
the upload would be 10, so for camming that would be intresting...
but that would cost me 120 euro's... so fuck it

edit to add: i just noticed that overall our speed here is faster.. while i'm 15 mbit faster than the 95% of the states, i'm at 89% of holland... curious!

yeah....we have the slowest average speeds on the planet, i think, and far from the least expensive service.

So this is what my isp gives me:

Last Result:
Download Speed: 62798 kbps (7849.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3077 kbps (384.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 5 ms
Thursday, January 17, 2013 3:55:15 PM

And this is what speedtest.net gives me using the closest server:

And this is what speedtest.net gives me using their choice server:

Note to self: let speedtest.net choose the server for me

This is while playing a movie on netflix and uploading a clip on C4S...not sure if that makes an inpact...

I know so little about this.

I can go up to 50 here but it's expensive. They run a student discount for this speed. If I want faster though the college has 60MBps.

From another forum I frequent, one of the Romanian guys there posted his internet speed - for which he pays 20 euros per month (which is about $23).

Not bad for a country most of you will think of as "Backwards" :D

Last I checked thats closer to $27. I'd be happy if I could even get a full 2-3Mb/s on the upload. Closest I can get to that here would cost me almost $90 a month with a "no cancellation" contract.

Isn't Ro. supposed to be like top 3-4 in the world for speed? I've read its mostly because its still all new access infrastructure [since communism] and there's not much old installation to bother with.. [old copper wire Vs FIOS]. Also it seems many I have talked to there have ul/dl speeds that are a lot closer to equal than other places, especially the US.

That's one thing that drives me most crazy about my ISP. I understand why residential connections are typically asymmetrical with significantly higher DL than UL speeds. I just wish it wasn't quite as extreme a ratio. For instance, my ISP has a 5:1 ratio for the bottom tier followed by 10:1, 15:1, 15:1 (again), 6:1, and finally 10:1 for the top end package. That top tier residential package is 50 Mbps DL and 5 Mbps UL for $74.99 a month by the way.

I know this about Internet speeds, but just curious if most of you have a monthly usage limit or get unlimited usage? My current package is 150Mbps DL 10Mbps UL limited to 250GB/month for $140. No ISP's in my area offer unlimited usage anymore :(

Cut out the server... but this is mine! We have Comcast economy... like the cheapest package there is, my mom said.

Comcast has a limit here of 250GB, but the data usage page currently says "enforcement of the 250GB data consumption threshold is currently suspended". Which is a good thing because I use more than double that consistently.

My area is still unlimited, thank God. I go through close to a TB a month.

I don't know how much we go through a month, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was close to that, thankfully we're unlimited here as well.

Parents have 60Gb bandwidth cap, with unlimited downloads between midnight and 8am.
When I was there I hardly hit that 60Gb. Then again, I don't watch streaming HD anything and MFC uses only like 1Gb per day if spending a lot of time on there.

My flat is going to be unlimited, but over here unlimited has a caveat of "fair usage". Generally if you hammer the hell out of your internet connection (file share), especially during peak hours, you'll be throttled (meaning drastically reduced bandwidth, meaning your dl/ul speed will go sub 1Mb).

Mobile phone contracts make me laugh though when they give a limit of 500Mb. That's approximately 10 mins of 1080HD youtube video in one month. It kind of renders the phone pointless if you can surf through the entire months allowance in under a quarter of an hour doing exactly what the phone manufacturers recommend you do with it!

Everything else is shitty but my ping is out of this world. I dont even know what that is. lol

When you download some thing/acsses a website/upload some thing it is sent as packets of data, the ping is the amount of time it takes one single packet to reach the host server.

Well then I guess my ping is shit too. Yet somehow my internet is still better than 85% of America... :? Are they using rotary phones to get online?

If they're going by your upload speed, then I can see where they're getting that. I had to get really high-priced internet to get anything above 1.5 upload. Most Americans just go with the cheapest package in their area, and don't pay attention to how much upload/download they get. Gamers and camgirls are the two biggest legal exceptions to this (hackers probably do as well). Also, I don't think they're counting businesses in that number... since they tend to have higher internet speeds in the cheapest package.

Perverts also pay attention to download speeds. :shifty: Not that I would know or anything.

Thats while my wife is on Skype and second life. BT fibre optic to the cabinet (fibre line stops at the street cabinet and not all the way to the master socket). Totally unlimited but traffic shaped for P2P during peek times.

Do you have the latest BT infinity they brought out?

Thats it, line is rated at 80mb. Copper line length from the green street cabinet to the master socket determines the overal line speed.
