Hide video option

A few days ago I asked mfc for the ability to Hide the video side panel which should make the site more compatible with mobile devices, tablets etc. Rather than just turning off the flash. I suggested being able to remove the whole panel.

When I logged on today I see they have done it!! :clap: :clap: :clap:

:think: turn off video panel , turn off thumbs :think: perve at work safer! :whistle:

I liked your tweet about this subject Lily. To me it sounds like something that might be useful for people in the lounge.
 
Because it makes sense

The top "Header" can be hidden, The model list at bottom can be hidden, as can the personal menu, the people in chats list and the chat itself.

So why not the video panel as well?

You would be surprized how many people sit chatting in the lounges with the video turned to OFF.

The idea was a simple way to make the site more compatible with Mobile / Tablet / Iphone / Ipod etc. The Video panel contains the flash video embeded. Iphone/Ipods are NOT friendly to Flash video.

This is what i actually sent to them as a mockup

I'd actually like it if there was a similar option - but that left the sound on.
Mobile video can be dodgy, but audio only with its lower bandwidth and CPU tends to work OK.

I agree, there have been times when I have had a poor connection to MFC and have given up because I couldn't hear what the model was saying. Turning off the video (it was bad as well), at the source, I would have at least been able to participate in the conversation with the model.

Yes you can turn off the Video and it looks like this. But not the same



Note how much screen space the video panel takes up? that is the issue with small screen devices. Which was the point in removing it.

Note if you HIDE the video panel without turning it OFF first you will still get the audio which is useful.

Turning off the Video and muting the sound is an important option for those using mobile devices that sometimes have extra data charges.

Good idea, I will suggest that when the video panel is hidden to save bandwidth it resorts to audio only, providing the Audio is not set on mute. As it is now hiding the video panel, simply hides it and continues to use large amounts of bandwidth unless you turn it OFF first.

Seriously...this will be great...there's nothing more distracting than some woman moaning in orgasmic delight...when I'm trying to spam a million emotes in chat...tends to take the focus away from me entirely...! :lol:

This is the dumbest idea in the world. You go on MFC or any other cam site to watch and chat with the models. Hiding the video completely contradicts the purpose of the site.

As I said on twitter to Cassidy Nicole a few minutes ago; I thought the idea of a business was to make money, not do everything possible to NOT make money.

How are they going to make money if they dont see a girl to tip her or take her into privates or groups? Is MFC now just a place to hang out with the homies? lol

I'll actually use this frequently. Quite often I have multiple popups open for member room, model room and lounge, and have them ALL set to the same model muted, or with the video off in all but one room. This does allow me to resize the chat windows more conveniently, because before even with the video turned off you can't resize the whole panel that small. Cool beans, I say!
 
The option has had a minor change to it. The default "hide video" now turns OFF the video also.This has a dramatic effect on the bandwidth usage.

But it also kills the audio.

It's something very simple they have done to make the site work better on the growing amount of small screen devices.

I sent my mockup to them on the 28th and it was done and working by the 2nd and hey it was the weekend. :eek:
 
Can I ask why you need this feature? What are you doing that means you'd prefer just the members text.
I'd like to understand it more.
I just don't get what you could be doing.. the chat is usually based around what the model is saying so isn't it important to hear that?

Some models type a lot more than they talk. Sometimes I'll turn off video when I'm in their room to improve network/computer performance. And some rooms are more like chat rooms where most of the members know each other. It's like hanging around chatting in a bar with friends.

A room i hang out in alot is a bit like that , but it would still be weird when you are missing out on what the model contributes to the conversation.
 
Users have always been able to turn the VIDEO off , the only addition is you can now remove the ugly videobox / whitespace to stop the video panel wasting screen real estate
 
It's good. If I go to the lounge, I don't watch video - I turn the feed off to minimise bandwidth. Then you can resize the video area to make chat text more screen estate.
Having a wider chat screen is better, without the faff of resizing the non existent video feed (which was near impossible to achieve with touch devices anyway :D ).

For the ladies who struggle to "get" it - the site is for members. The Premiums, the basics, the guests - not you. You don't have to "get" anything regarding functionality :D You're "employees".
So I can see why they make things more chat oriented for members. Anything that retains people for longer, feeds their "addiction" to chatting on the site - is good for them. You may come to just chat with friends instead, maybe you'll spend more too. The "hide" functionality is bloody simple to achieve, so took perhaps a few minutes to sort out with javascript. The result, however, means those who wish to keep chatting on mobile devices can see more of the screen and not be having a redundant white space. The site doesn't have to just be about perving, it can be more social - you can "chat with mates" if you wish.

Good feature for the lounge. It may be less relevant for when in a models room - for obvious reasons :D
